The drawing thread

Have you seen my cartoons?

I'd be more than willing to contribute, and you can use the ones i've posted so far (with credit given of course ;) ).

Just don't expect them to be pumped out!
Oh, don't worry. You won't pump out anything, I'll be operating the pump. I did not say that, I didn't do it, I wasn't there.
I don't know, it just seems like something that could be done within a couple of hours if that.
Really.
Have you seen my cartoons?
We've seen your avatar… close enough?

Maybe, but all artists work at different paces. What takes one an hour to sketch could take another a month. It doesn't mean anything if the end result is the same.

I don't know, being able to draw fast means you can draw a lot more in the same amount of time, and I guess anyone could draw the same thing if they had as much time as they need.

I think I'm a lot faster on paper but I can't use paper any more. It doesn't help that I can't hold the tablet pen properly.

Hey Chukchi, it looks pretty great so far.

I think what would make that composition stronger, is if you had varying lineweights on the character.
If you've ever seen some comics, a lot of figures have thick lines around certain body parts, and thinner lines around others.
This helps to achieve a more 3-dimensional look instead of just being a little flat.

Generally, lines in closer proximity to the viewer should be thicker as well, to help render depth.
So in your case, you should try adding .05-.10mm of width along most of the lines around the front part of the body.

Hope that helps!

I thought about trying to add shading or colour, but I don't know how to do it in the programme I'm using. I don't read a lot of comics.

Oh. Basically what I'm saying is:
Make more of the lines fatter.
Not that much fatter, just about .05-.10mm, and have them vary.
You'll see a drastic jump in improvement.

Precisely. The principle is that if all of your lines are the exact same width,
your composition appears to be two-dimensional and less dynamic.
If you have a variety of line-widths, your image will appear to have depth & appear dynamic.

Not to mention that if you have a tablet, you can change the opacity of the lines and add shading, bright areas, ect.

That's when you get close to photorealistic.

Photorealism is cool up until the point where it is legitimately impossible to tell the difference. Then I'm just look at a photograph that took weeks or months as opposed to seconds.

The whole point of photorealism is to appreciate the effort it took to actually paint the picture, not to admire the finished product. If you look at any piece of art like a photograph, you're missing the whole point.

Sorry if I'm a bit protective of photorealistic art.

EDIT: and it only takes hours, god forbid weeks.

So...this is a WIP I'm painting. I'm at somewhat of a crossroads on where to go from here.
I do know that it's way too light right now so far though, but I'm having trouble deciding on what colors I want to use.

SS#2's ended. SS#3 has begun.

Back from Sonic Boom (Which was AWESOME), I submit to you SS3's cover. As always, the image links to the site on Smackjeeves.

Random question for any interested. If the Empire's provinces are called "Zones," should the sub-provinces be called "Acts?" :p

Really, man? What next, give him a pair of pistols and have him talk in ebonics? And you of all people..!

His Holiness Sega XXI has already done half of that, I'm afraid. :p

That and a darker muzzle makes him more distinct from Sonic. It also adds further hints to what he's tainted by... :p (MTC players you know what's coming; don't worry, no Freebotnik)

Indeed. I've noticed my crappy Paint drawings look a LOT better even if I thin the lines here and there. I just take an eraser and thin the joins in places, like where bones or limbs mesh into the rest of the body. (For example, the chin losing definition as it gets closer to the ear)

Great as always, FC!

Silly trainer trying to catch a fire Pokemon with a grass type. Don't they ever learn?

Well I guess after kicking your rival's butt multiple times in previous games you've probably gotten used to the fake difficulty and are ready to take on a much tougher opponent. :p

So what I'm getting out of this is that I should google doxy.

I like Trixie's pose in trixie/discord image.
