The drawing thread

Great work as always Danny :)

Do you have any concept/symbolic works? With your mastery of the basics (and beyond) i guess you can pretty much draw anything you want, although i remember you saying that you arent good with buildings. However those drawn in your pics don't look bad at all :)

I think my greatest weakness as an artist is that I tend to focus too much on subjects that I can visually observe, rather than subjects in my imagination. I feel almost like my hand is a direct conduit from my eyes, but my hand isn't quite as well connected to imagery in my imagination, if that makes any sense. I think with more practice and growth I will become more comfortable with subjects conjured from within my head.

My skill with buildings is coming along, although I think my architectural drawing/paintings are well behind my portraiture still. Portraiture is supposed to be more difficult than landscapes and architectural paintings, yet I feel I'm better with portraits.

I recall that you said you dont want/ don't think it is viable to be a professional artist, but your skills in portraits at least seem to me to be excellent. I am not sure if that alone can guarantee you enough money though.
As for your imagination, many artists which are considered great did not appear to have a very vivid imagination, or even portrayed things obviously from it. Although if you did have that ability it would be more powerfull a work, at least in my opinnion.
I had offered to give you some images as ideas, but im sure you can find your own, you just will have to work through the block that you say you have in regards to connecting the dots between what you are imagining and what gets into the canvas :)

At any rate i always look forward to seeing more of your works.

You can always be the new Julian Beever.

Thread revival time!

CrashDBZ.jpg

Inspired by Crash: Mind Over Mutant's ending, I have created this. For those who don't know, Mind Over Mutant uses a different art style for each cutscene, with the last cutscene having a DBZ(i.e. everyone's a musclehead) style.

This is also SFCFC(Safe For CivFanatics Center). Whaaaaaat?

My political cartoon for Imperium Offtopicum IV.

Japan is depicted as a monstrous, reptilian-featured kitsune, proclaiming virtues such as "peace", "honor", "brotherhood", all while grabbing a small dragon - representing China - who's arms are tied behind its back, rendering it helpless. Despite the dragon being rendered a non-issue, Japan prepares to slit its throat. Meanwhile, the Japanese war machine and flag stand right behind its massive representation.

Japan looks on in disgust as the nations of Europe - Germany(the wolf on the left), France(the Gallic Rooster at the bottom), and the Byzantines(the lion in a toga) - meet with the Marian Federation - a fox itself - as they form the alliance(ANTIEDO) in response to the dangerous nature of the world. The Marian Federation motions to Japan as an example of the dangers the world faces, forming an alliance in order to deter aggression from Japan and all other states.

Buckbeak?

The castle looks like Hogwarts, so I just guessed.

I like the dark sky, unintentional though it may be. It suggests light rain / misty morning.

I made up the castle, but it's based on a few real castles. I was trying to come up with a faraway tower, like something from Tolkien.

You deserve a tummy scratch or two for that, Chuchky!

Danny, CH.. both posting amazing art work!

Shame i can't commission either of you! (not rich enough for it to be worth your time!)

Nice drawing, once I realised what I thought was a big mullet was actually the other wing ;)

No love for my posts? :(

Anyway, on-topic:

Awesome work, CH! I don't get why you're so negative of your abilities, considering you're very, very good. You've taken artist vision one step too far. ;)
