The Earliest Events in Your Life

Gretzky is thoroughly Americanized now, to the point that it was utterly pathetic when Harper tried to get his endorsement during the 2015 election.

Kurt Browning was known as the "King of the Quad" when he became the first man to land a quadruple jump in competition (men's singles figure skating).

I don't know enough about Gretzky to really comment, but from what I understand he was involved with our national hockey program for a bit after retiring, and is now part something of the Edmonton Oilers. Still lives in California, but I would say he's not nearly as Americanized as someone like Jim Carrey, or I don't know, Michael Cera

But yeah I totally do support the idea that if you actually live in Canada then you should have a much higher chance of ending up on our money

When I was younger my family would always watch the Olympics together, including figure skating.. So I do remember Kurt Browning! Sort of

I remember when I was admitted to Pioneers (Soviet scouts). I was 9.
We were taken to the Red Square and gave an oath right in front of the Mausoleum.
To love our Homeland, to live like great Lenin taught us, etc. It was quite a big moment, we were very proud of it.

On a way back home, I puked all over the bus. Nothing political, just car sickness.

Yes, may be it sounds funny, but I'm not kidding, everything happened as I described.

The Sydney Olympics is really the first event I remember properly. I kinda sorta remember the death of Diana, in a very vague way, but more in the sense that I remember remembering it, not in the sense that I still hold any first-hand memory.

The reason I'm not looking forward to Charles being on the money is because about the politest thing I can say about him is that he's an adulterous jackass. I would far rather he abdicate in favor of William, who (as far as I know) has not committed adultery, nor has he psychologically abused either his wife or kids.

Unfortunately, though, he won't abdicate because it would just dredge up the whole "Edward and Mrs Simpson" thing all over again. Even though it was many decades ago, people still have long memories.

The first time I saw him was in 1988, in the Calgary Olympics. The media was so focused on "The Battle of the Brians" (Canadian Orser vs. American Boitano) that Browning could just relax, have a good time, and gain experience competing internationally. Orser and Boitano both retired, and then the major male Canadian skaters were Kurt Browning, Michael Slipchuk, and Elvis Stojko. All three of them won Canadian championships over the years, Browning won the World Championships 3 times, but only Stojko won any Olympic medals (Browning always seemed to choke during the Olympics, for some reason).

My dad and I watched NHL hockey when Gretzky was playing for the Oilers, but after he was traded, we decided we didn't want to root for an American team and my dad decided to support the Flames. As for me, it's been a very long time since I watched any NHL hockey and even a fairly long time since I last watched Olympic hockey.

BTW, Gretzky can't be on the money until he's been dead for 25 years. That's the rule for everyone except the current monarch.

Y2K. Or if that doesn't count, 9/11. They surely liked those number-names 'round the turn of the century.

You're that young? I'm kind of surprised.
I remember Erki Nool winning a gold in decathlon in Sydney. I was in 10th grade at the time...

I remember falling out of a tree and putting my teeth through my lip, and I have some vague memories my sister told me would mean I was 2 or 3.

I remember the 1984 Olympics at elast watching part of it on TV but I have a few more memories of being 4/5 and I turned 6 in 84. Early movies I remember are ET and Return of the Jedi, early music is Jacko. 1st political event as such I remember is 1987 elections here (I did not understand the idea of a party I thought it was chips and soda etc).

Chernobyl, Challenger and Berlin Wall coming down I remember along with Thatcher, Reagan for leaders.
