The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

EDIT: This sounds a little buggy if you ask me. Anyone ever see that happen? I'd really hate to save up enough money to buy an item from a shop, only to have that shopkeeper killed off.

Can that (NPCs being killed off), in any way, mess up the main quest? (i.e., you might get a message that says, "Character X has been killed! You can not complete the main quest. Game over." like it did in Morrowind)

No, chars involved in the main quest cannot be killed, they just "faint". And that is a probable occurance, as the Radiant A.I. Will make them do that. Someone might have a grudge. :mischief:

Will there be an expansion pack released for Oblivion? I've noticed you can pay for mini expanision downloads on their website. But will they release a pc cd expansion pack you can buy in a store? If yes, do you know when?

Someone did attempt a highway robbery on me (demanded 100 gold) I refused as there was an Imperial patrol passing nearby.

Silly highway robber.

 Especially when you are carrying 500K gold and he still only asks for 100... while I'm curious as to what the robber will do when he received the gold, I always select the "I will beat you to death with your leg" option instinctively... :D

"100 gold, tis but a penny, here you go, don't spend it all at once."

Say, is there any way to increase the amount you can carry? I'm getting a bit full up - mostly on my armour.

Cheers again Chukchi, :goodjob:

More screenies on my recent adventures in the south:

I'm guessing this chap was the git who created the staff I'm carrying. Why does that make me not like him, because it meant I was continuously followed by these guys:

ob03aa1.jpg

These guys. Didn't really get in the way, but goodness, it was just moan moan moan all the way here. "It's raining!" "I need the bathroom" "Tom's trying to set me on fire." and the like. Cursed things.

ob04yn6.jpg

Who's this handsome chap? Why, it's me!

ob05nv2.jpg

Why did I take this shot? Because of the beautiful landscape, the wonderful fortifications? Nay, just to prove that, after several days, IT'S STOPPED RAINING! Wooh!

Each point of strength will give you 5 more points of max. encumbrance. Also you can use feather spells or magical items. See my answer to TF's question above though.

Also there's "Summoned Chest" mod which gives you a "summon chest" spell... which really is unlimited inventory. If you're going to make a few trips to get all the loot, then use this mod to save some time and the game will be less tedious... :D

I simply cannot believe how addictive this is. I started playing at 3pm 5 hours later realised what time it was. I better have dinner.

Closed the first gate, am also officially a 'Gladiator' now. Onwards....to glory!

I keep getting mesmerized by the bueaty of the scenery! :)

I'm gonna have to become a gladiator in the colloseum with my Khajit.

Well, I've finished the first Fighter's Guild contract. Now I just need to find Anvil for the next contract.... if I can find it. :) I'm also thinking I may need an extra gig or two of RAM.

Now for the images! Imaged marked "Just for fun" means I saved the game, then did some stuff that I wouldn't normally do with the character (like causing havoc), and reverted back to the origanal save.

When Goblins Attack!

Just for fun - chasing a horse down a cliff.

Just for fun - This guy got caught in the crossfire...

Amazing view of a castle/town (Kvatch I think).

Fighter's Guild - looks like a good place to keep my stash...

Heh, I started my Fighters Guild career in Anvil. Sadly I got kicked out recently for some crime which I didn't commit. Or at least I don't think I did. Must have hit my horse during a battle or something.

Just levelled up as well, back to the Arena for me :D

Anybody know?

...another question:

When are you high enough level to complete the first main quest?, the one you're getting out the guys trapped in the oblivion gate outside kvatch. I've started it two different times but the monsters in there are too good for me. I just keep duying...

@ sweetpete:
I think only Bethesda can answer that question, and she hasn't said anything yet. ;)

To your second question: Level 1.

Nope, I'm not kidding you. In Oblivion, almost everything levels with you. The higher you get, the tougher your opponents will be.

Sneaking and some almost instant death traps (rock slides, drop into lava) are the only exceptions.

So as long as you keep a steady supply of, or bring sufficient healing potions , you can finish the main quest at level 1. Just keep a silver weapon (free from Mage/Fighter guild halls) to hit normal weapon immunes and you'll be fine.

Also the lower level you are, the stronger your NPC allies will be. This is because their gears don't level up... so at higher levels they are severely disadvantaged. At level 1 they will survive 10 enemies (mostly scamps) without you healing them, and at level 20, facing top-level daedra they won't last beyond the first minute.

My first character (Imperial Knight) didn't start the MQ until level 18. At around level 23, you face pretty much the same daedra everytime - and while I can kill them just fine, it takes a lot of time - the mage types will keep running away (for miles if you let them), the little spiderlings will paralyze you, you get knocked flying no matter how much agility you have, etc.

My second character did the main quest at around level 10 - 15, and that feels MUCH better.

If you die a lot, perhaps you need to learn how to fight. The combat system is not like Morrowind - you have to use skill and tactics now. Back in Morrowind you just keep dash in, swing, dash out, and you will kill everything. Not in Oblivion. Go to the Arena in Imperial City, save your game and use it to train. :D

Use a shield - blocking with shield is MUCH more efficient than with weapons. Keep an eye on your opponent at all times - observe him, see when he's going to attack, and block / back up. If you get knocked back a bit - don't panic, steady yourself, move away from him, and try again. If you find him stunted from your block, move forward and do a normal attack. A few normal attacks if you're using fast weapons like daggers and swords. Then back away.

Also keep moving. Find shelter if you're fighting archers. Close in quickly against mages, as most of them can't take more than a few hits. Use medium distance as one of your defense against swords, daggers and hammers.

Keep observing and try to time when to block and when to attack. When you get better at the timing and distance calculation, start using power attacks. You don't want to miss... or get blocked. You will be stunted/locked and you will get punished.

The above still applies even if you're a magic user. A magic user can use shields too. ;) Keep a dagger in case you run out of magicka, and use touch spells - much more magicka friendly than target spells, plus you are much less likely to miss and waste magicka.

Try the arena - that's where I learn to fight. :D

I did the Main quest at level 33 or something. Easy Peasy.

Im at level 32 right now and have only done some side quests and the mage guild quests up to opening the universaty. I will be doing up to the black soul gem alter so I can get me some black soul gems.

Level 1. :smug:

Stealth (CTRL key to crouch down) + Bow & Arrow = they'll never see it coming! I've gotten x3 and x6 damage that way!

I'm always having problems being encumbered, though... I guess it'll take a LOT of saving up gold to buy a house -- or maybe use Sercen as my hideout to store my stash.

2k in gold will get you the shack in the imperial city. you buy it in the market district.

Ah, what a day, what a day. Lots of glorious battles, a growing of my fame and, erm, a falling in with what may be the wrong crowd...
