The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I started the Bruma oblivion gate main quest today. That's the gate with the powerful bow and mace, right? I hope the items are not hidden in some hard to find places. :)

I told Burd and his guards to wait near the entrance. Don't think they'll be much help...

My character also became the arch-mage of the mage guild now. It's a shame Traven sacrificed himself. It didn't look like his death was necessary. He could have filled the black soul gem with a rat's soul and it would still render the gem useless. :shake:

Im afraid to read too much in this thread because of all the spoilers.. but i have a question about how the world in the game Oblivion update itself.
I mean, if you put something somewhere, will i stay there untill you remove it? Or will it vanish after a while?
And do the inventory of traders ever change without its you changing it?
...Do you know?

I'm not sure about putting things places, but, sure, traders get new items all the time. Its actually about once a week, and depending on your level. I remember once I had to collect bear pelts, and I found a few places that sold them, but then I had to wait for them to restock.

No, it's the Chorrol one. And the bow and mace is in a chamber not related to closing the gate - you'll have to explore to find it.

IIRC you need to have Burd with you to finish the quest... and the guards will help the cause by acting as fragile meat shield and donating their items to you...

As for Traven, his tower is probably kept very clean so no little critters to trap... and don't forget he's against necromancy *and* conjuration magic.

I never really understood that part. For me, before I went to the Echo caves, he got up from bed, just babbled something, started a spell, and went back to the bed.

Went back to bed?! No wonder you don't get it.

The spell Traven casted is supposed to kill him and put his soul inside the huge black soulgem... something supposed to stop the King of Worms turning you into a worm slave.

But because of a bug the script is not fired properly... when you fight the King of Worms the huge black soulgem doesn't get used up and will be then stuck inside your inventory.

I' ve tried putting some things in a chest in the mage guild living quarter and the items remained there after a few days. It's not a good idea to put your stuff in containers you don't own though.

You should save up some money asap and buy the waterfront shack for 5000 Gold. That's the cheapest house you can buy (there is a big house at Anvil for 5000 Gold but it's haunted and you wouldn't want to sleep there).

That Finger of the Mountain spell still costs 710 magicka at 100 destruction. Useless! :p

I have actually made more powerful spells at the altar that costs around 350 magicka. One spell I made has 100 shock damage on target for 2 seconds + 100 fire damage on target for 2 seconds + weak against magic 100% for 2 seconds on target.

I also made a few single elemental spells. For example, shock damage 100pts on target for 4 seconds + weak against magic 100% for 4 seconds. These are much better range attack than bow and arrows. :)

No, don't use Weakness to Magic with elemental damage spells!

Weakness to Magic only affects effects like Drain, Damage and Absorb. To amplify the elemental (fire, cold, lightning, poison) damages you need to use the specific weakness spells.

You sure? I would have to find somone who sells those elemental weakness spells first. They made it unecessarily complicated. :p

There's a spell database you could use... http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Spells

UESP is a great wiki for the Elder Scrolls series.

Or if you want to find out on your own, each Mage Guild hall specializes in a school of spell (with a little other schools mixed in). You might gather this information by visiting them or looking at the tips in loading screens. ;)

Elemental weakness spells are of the Destruction school.

Spoiler :

Skingrad specializes in Destruction.

Installed a few more mods...
- Third-person Crosshair
- Disable sale amount dialog (this one might be bad after all)
- Quest reward leveling

Now I no longer need to adjust to the first-person view...

Difficult, but doable. Yes, I've read such reports. You will do everything, ANYTHING, to get items that help you boost your HtH skill, luck, strength, armor, armor skill, and endurance. It will be extremely difficult if you have to fight multiple enemies at once. Sneak/invisibility and chameleon will help a ton here.
Actually, there's one super item aright inside Imperial City. It boosts your HtH by 30pts (IIRC) and some reflect damage (also IIRC). You will have to steal it though.

I'm starting another HtH character. What item is it, and where can it be found? :help:

This item is a pair of gauntlets. It is located in:
Spoiler :
The Arena district. Move around the arena, and you should find two hopefuls practicing HtH. Nearby is their bedrolls, and a locked chest (IIRC very hard). The guantlets are inside.

Also, a small easter egg or hidden bonus:
Spoiler :
Stick around and watch them practice... you will gain a small boost to your HtH after a while.

The big problem is it will be marked as stolen... so you must not get caught afterwards. If you join the Thieves Guild, you can sell it to your fence and buy it back to clear the flag, but this will cost you dearly.

Do you have any first hand experience on how the game will run (if at all) on P4 2.133, 1024mb, R9700?

I have P4 2.8Ghz, 1Gb RAM, Radeon 9550 Infinite (best APG I can find).

I can run it very smoothly at 800x600, no anti-alias. Max distance on all. I left most other options at default.

I can get it up higher, but when there're lots of creatures/NPCs on screen (plus their AI), the game will get a bit slow.

If my computer had more RAM, could it run it? It only has 512 MB. My processor is P4 2.4 GHz and I have a Radeon X700. It probably doesn't matter much for me because I have it on the 360.

I can confirm that adding RAM to your PC is unlikely to increase your 360 performances.

My processor will probably be the worst bottleneck here. I used to have problems even with Morrowind from time to time with full draw distance. I can overclock it even more to ~2.4 but I'm not sure it'll be stable enough... it's running 500MHz over the specs as it is.

=> Chukchi I think 512 is enough. And since your computer sounds reasonably up to date I'd consider throwing in the extra 512. Even I have 1024 with lower specs than yours. Besides Civ IV likes the extra memory ;).. Let me at your computer and I'll punch the clock up to ~2.8 :)
