The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

That happens to a few specific NPC... mentioned in the patch readme. After patch those NPCs are fixed. People used to use them to get unlimited money.

There's also a side quest that you need to retrieve a weapon from some bandits. The boss is using that weapon, and if you managed to disarm him (with skill I think) you might get two copies of the weapon. Unfortunately that will break the quest.

Horses are overrated though... :(

1) No horseback combat
2) Too difficult to steer (mod exists to fix this)
3) They can be killed, and bandits/monsters (esp. wolves) will ignore you and go straight for your horse. Difficult to keep your mount alive.
4) They tend to walk away when you dismount. Then you have to go look for them.
5) It is possible to run faster than even the fastest horse, with suitable fortify speed equipments.

The only worthy one is Shadowmere, a non-killable horse. It is a quest reward of some faction.

Also there's a mod called "Call Steed". It adds a few rings (one for each type of horse, include Shadowmere). When you equip those rings, and you do own a horse of that type, it will be teleported to you. It's a great mod for eliminating the inconvenience.

I can't get Xbox Live. It needs a hard drive to work. One strange thing that happened is when I put the game disc into the console for the first time the game patched the console.

Stop spoiling my fun! I will have a horse, and he shall be called Jerry.

Still having great fun with this. Lost money in the arena, though I helped the champion with some family troubles and had an epic battle with a bandit.

You can use the console command SetActorFullName "Jerry" to change your horse's name. Open console and click on your horse (so it becomes the active target). Then type the command and press ENTER.

Though with your horse being turned into dog-chow so often it'd be better to use names like Jerry VI, Jerry IX, etc. ... :mischief:

Really, Shadowmere is the only worthy horse, even if you can run faster than it... because horses can climb very very steep slopes that you'll never be able to.

If you really want to keep a horse, buy the tougher ones... White > Black > Weynon Priory Horse > Paint > Bay > Chestnut. For speed, Black > White, Chesnut > Bay > Paint > Weynon Priory Horse. Of course Shadowmere is top ranked in both. :D

Be careful fighting near your horse... your horse does fight, so it might get in your way. If you hit it enough times, it will fight you as well. When that happens, block and activate your horse. You'll mount it and it will not attack you anymore. This obviously is a very bad idea if enemies are around.

Also hitting your horse too much times, and not only it will fight you... it will report you to the authorities. You will get a bounty, and people got kicked out of Mage and Fighter guild because of that.

I've seen a mod that modifies horse behavior... but it changes and adds too much to my taste. The biggest problem is that to use it efficiently, you will give up a few hotkeys - something that is already too short in supply.

I'd be happy to use one that just keep your horse from getting lost, and make it stay away from combat - run in circles if needed and only fight back when no other options are available.

Where do you get Shadowmere?

Sometimes, when I know an enemy is near, I get off the horse because of it fighting. I never knew it reported you if you hit it too many times.

You only get Shadowmere by:
Spoiler :
Joining the Dark Brotherhood. To join DB, you have to murder an innocent person. Shadowmere is a DB quest reward, but it's awarded after you've done more than half of the DB quests. So Shadowmere is not for the good guys.

I remember after killing someone I took his items but I had too many to carry, so I put them back on his body. When I came back, the items doubled.

I think the patch fixes that -- which is kind of the problem with console games... you can't patch them.

Anyway, I find the horses too fickle... and I really hate it when the NPC walks right into the line of fire! (I was doing one quest to shut an Oblivion Gate, and the gaurd walks right in front of my arrow - in motion - and dies. I reloaded and let the goblin do the deed, THEN took the gaurd's equipment. Too bad my character is a light armored assassin). Getting arrows back seems to be a 75% success rate too. It seems when the arrow's in an awkward position (mouth, deeply embedded, underneath the NPC), you can't get it back.

Was that to shut down the first gate? I had to give up in order to strengthen myself up. Joined the fighters guild and became a gladiator in the Arena :D

It's so annoying when the bandits and animals go after your horse and ignore you. It's as if the horse killed their mother or something and they want revenge. :crazyeye:

Other than that, I don't find horse hard to use. I use fast travel alot so don't need to find the horse to mount most of the time -- when you fast travel the horse travels with you too even w/o mounting it first.

My character became the head of the thieves guild yesteray. The feather effect of the award item doesn't seem to work correctly. I checked the active effects screen and instead of feather 200, it shows only feather 14. :(

Kan's screenies

It has been raining like this for days now. But only when I'm out of town :p

My first glitch! Or there is a floating pen item in the game.

And despite what you naysayers say, here is my horse. Jerry:

As you wish...

My great journey south. Many miles during the evening...

And I just had to take a tourist snap of this

Note, in both pics, IT'S STILL BLOODY RAINING! :p

Is that Leyawin? Looks like you are visiting places fast. :) In my game I didn't visit cities like Anvil and Leyawin until middle of the game, like level 18.

I usually take lots of screenshots in my game. Anytime I see something interesting or there is nice scenery, I take a picture. :)
