The future of Fall from Heaven

Sad to hear the project halted. But im sure the spirit live. FfH for Civ 5 will rock!

I've been a long time lurker and a first time poster here in the forums (due to the server being busy every time I tried to post).

Heard the news and I feel bad when I heard that the project didn't went through.

I'm actually surprised that the next FFH installment would be made into a tactics game, and it is not the 'being surprised in a bad way' mind you.

You know, some folks in Japan would actually like it if FFH took that genre.
If I'm not mistaken, lots of folks in Japan (emphasis on if I'm not mistaken) that do play FFH, are kinda into that genre.

Isn't CIV 'kinda' like a Tactics game too? I could be wrong.

As I recall there are a few folks in Japan that actually do create some fan art of FFH using FFT (Final Fantasy Tactics) based sprites, besides other type of fan arts of course. (Yes folks, FFH fan art in Anime/Manga form)

I thought I once saw somebody did a fan art of Laroth fighting Ethne and an aging Auric. Then there was this other funny fan art where most of the angels got captured and were placed in barrels on Hannah or Keelyn's boat, though I think most of the fan art is about Falamar or Faeryl. Couldn't remember where I saw those.

And yes, some of the creators of those fan arts actually knew about the poem concerning Hannah's Panties. (some in a comical funny way, others however... lets just say the term Octopus Overlords comes to mind  )

But then again I'm not from Japan, most of what I found about what I just said I got from around and about the internet.

So yeah, I think the concept could actually work. Too bad the publishers didn't think so.

I wish you guys the best.

And since Kael just made a few mods for CIV V, maybe there is still some hope for another installment of FFH? ;)

:(:(:( Huge bummer, but I'm glad that you're taking it in stride. These opportunities come and go, but being ready for the next one (as you and your team clearly are) is what's most important.

I look forward anxiously to all your future endeavors. Keep trucking! :D

I think having people create porn for a character you thought up is one step away from being god.

links or it didn't happen ;)

If you know of any such art and have any way to find it PM me with it please.
And I do mean it.
This post is not a joke or fun in any way, shape or form.
It is dead serious.

Sorry to hear that financing fell through, Kael. I won't bother making any demands for FfH for CiV from you, I'm still enjoying it completely unmodified (although I did just add a clock so I could keep track of time). I wish you the best of luck in future endeavors, though.

We want FfH3 for civ 5 Kael, hear us! FfH3 can be my reason to buy Civ 5! :)

Since this thread is entitled "The future of Fall from Heaven" and not specifically the future of Kael, might I recommend this? The Fall from Heaven team is chock full of talented modders and artists. I'll bet many, if not most, of them would like to see Fall from Heaven make the transition to CiV. We know from other posts that Kael has got other concepts rumbling around in his head (Master Cultuum notwishstanding ). I, for one, would like to see BOTH Fall from Heaven for CiV AND whatever else Kael wants to work on next. Let's not forget, FfH has been a group project. Credit where credit is due, and more than enough talent to carry on this project for the rest of us (the untalented ;)) to enjoy.

Fall from Heaven without Kael is not Fall from Heaven. There is a reason none of the major modmod teams have said they will port it; It's not the same.

Sorry to see that financing fell through. Them's the breaks.

But, it's obvious that the experience was a positive one and, who knows? Maybe it will lead to great things down the road.

After all, as Oddball said in "Kelly's Heroes" - "With so many positive waves, maybe we can't lose?"

I'm not giving up hope, just putting it on the back burner for now. Long after Civ V is lying in the discount bin, I'll be checking this forum and FFH2 webspaces for any news of a resurrection of an FFH standalone!

A team that can create a mod that has had the impact that Fall From Heaven II has had, is obviously capable of doing great things!

Unfortunately as of 9/14/2010 the FfH game became a casualty of the the games industry and the project died. It's tough to get that big break, and this time it didn't work out.

Well, as I wrote somewhere else: Don't do that without experience in IT management or graphic engines, real games and not only mods of nice games.

I am an IT manager of large scale governmental projects, I would not discourage you because I like FFH2. But let it. Otherwise, you fails as the team from Elemental.

In my opionion you need not a budget or an IT manager.

a. You need just an agreement with 2K Games or Firaxis about franchising CIV5 in a special way.

b. Use CIV5 to develop nice mods and after that, sell mods accross Steam.

It's the only way you will see money, because you're not experienced enough with real graphic engines and networking capabilities. Sad but true.

Second thought: As long as you work together with 2K Games or Firaxis (sell mods in Steam), you are a friend of them. If you create a new game, you are an opponent of them like the team of Elemental . Atfer that you will loose support and you need your own business management, communication guys, merchandising experienced non-programmers and and and. You need contracts to publish in Steam or somewhere else. As I see you are thinking too much as a coder. Try to leave business management, communiction and merchandising to 2K Games and Firaxis - and distribute your mod as an addon via Steam. Maybe you earn engouh money to build your own small software company... ;)

Only way I'm going to buy Civ 5 is if FFH3 is made for it. Tested the new civ game on my brother's and immensely disliked it.

I think Firaxis or whoever should finance the mod to get more sales for their game.

As others have said I'm glad you're taking it in stride and if you own the design then that's actually a really good thing because it means you have the option of producing it if the financial backing ever comes up. Speaking of, I work for a mobile games company; I'll pass word around to the production teams. We usually stick to cellphone platforms but I know there are a ton of FFH2 fans in house here and you never know.
