The Future of NESing

Nah, I wouldn't abuse my power in the game itself, I'd just brainwash him to believe that the good old days were better than the modern ones and that everyone who spends more time on orders than on diplomacy doesn't know anything about NESing. U know, the stuff I always complain about. ;)

No its not, its just brainwashing.

Abusing steps in when the mentors start to take advantage of having this kind of student in the game itself ("ally with me on this one if ye want to be good" etc..). This kind of abuse would almost certainly happen.

hmm, is this the appropriate place to stick random ideas?

I’ve been playing with the following idea, and decided I don’t have the enthusiasm or the time to do it, even if anyone was interested, but wanted to share it anyway:

Basically, it’s less of a NES and more of a democracy game of civ3/4, but the ‘mod’ has overall say over everything, and does any jobs that aren’t taken by others.

Everyone who joins gets a unit re-named after them, and they can give orders for that unit. Its up to them whether they follow the overall goals of the nation or not.

Also, as well as the unit to control, everyone can choose to be a minister/councillor for certain jobs, on first-come-first-serve basis:

Jobs for one person only:
Head of military – says how the military is used overall
Head of armaments – says how many/what kind of new units are produced, and what old ones are scrapped/upgraded.
Head of science – says what tech to research
Head of treasury – has control over sci/luxury sliders, says how much gold should be kept, and how much can be spent on upgrades/diplomacy/rushing.
Head of construction – has a say in when and where new buildings are constructed.
Head of infrastructure – has a say over worker recruitment and where new roads/mines/farms/fortifications are built.
Head of exploration – has a say in where explorers go, and where new cities/colonies are founded

Other jobs everyone can have:
Mayors – have full control over how a certain city is run, might expand control to other cities if they do well.
Generals – have a load of other troops following their main unit – gather more units the better they do.

You could have stories and stuff that people would write, trying to gain power and influence for their character/dynasty, and maybe damage other people’s. People could switch jobs at any point. If someone didn’t do well, or became unpopular with other players, the mod could have them removed from their job.

If any person gets really powerful and influential, they could become the overall leader of the country, taking over many of the mod's powers.

Everyone would always have at least one unit on the map, which could be killed by enemy attacks etc. This would remove that player from the game or force them to start over.

I'd play it. I actually would be excited to play this.

Sounds like Nessos.
From what i know about that NES, i would agree.

thanks for the feedback. now i realise this should have been in the NES development thread, oops...

Looks awesome, but there would need to be multiple countries.

i wonder how this would work in civ4 on a fast computer. I dont have warlords, and orginal civ4 is pretty much unplayable on my pc (cos ive 'only' got 2ghz and 512mb ram...)

Oh, i thought this was going to be a nes without the Civ4 game, making it diff than a DemoGame.

Geez, I only have 2.4 Ghz and 756 RAM and it runs perfectly on mine...

And as for the idea, like all other great yet complex NES ideas, it would unfortunately fail fairly quickly.

However I would be interested in a NES diplomacy Civ4 game.

well, when i say unplayable, i mean i cant do bigger maps and lots of civs, like i want to. im stuck with small-world, 7-civ games which dont interest me so much.

yeah, i meant to emphasise, my idea was to use the civ computer game itself...
