The Future of NESing

By being helpful in the forums, and not getting (too many, 2 I think) warnings or (none, actually) bans.

Ken - Report the posts, I'll deal with them.

Okay, we're cool. I just didn't want you to think I was trying to entrap you.

You gain +1 Mod Appreciation, your doing a good job! </sychopancy>

but seriously man, your cool :D.

i mean the more experienced players just tell of the new guys and say "ooh thats so out of char dude you suck noobersrssr i will pwn you rolf ah ah" only more elequently and with correctly spelling

telling them they suck will make them hate you

heh, true. Of course, some NESers could learn to value patience....mostly in letting the newer NESer's develop, also I suppose is the updates. I'm actually releived to say that i have not seen a single 'NAO' in weeks! Maybe it was a Summer thing.

So how exactly did you become a moderator?

I've always been a fan of bribery, and sycophants, but I'm not a mod see.

Re-Focus: are the views still that;
1. Don't fix what Ain't broken
2. Disengage from the Civ3 Forum, move somewhere else. (frankly I think thats the MAIN reason, and the additional members argument is just a justification).

Are there worries that the 'culture' of the NES'ing forum might alter in a bad way? (can someone clarify this for me, preferably someone with strong, but constructive views :p)

That is exactly why you are not a moderator Panda.

Anyways can we get back on topic.

So the question should be, due to the recent influx of people into this nesing community, how do we educate them?

I know myself I try and get people to have AIM, but we should also help the so called newbs out as hell, we all have to start somewhere. I am not saying being nice or not attacking them because they are newbs. Newbs are supposed to die horribly the first couple of times, its what makes them into nesers as they learn from their mistakes.

However I know helping newbs with diplomacy and answering any questions they have are good starts. Lead by example. At the same time encourage them to write stories. This is the reason we HAD story bonuses. Lets face it in most neses these days its just diplomacy and questions to the mod, then the dreaded 'Orders Posted' posts that come along, but very little stories.

If we want the quality to return we have to encourage those people that have not seen that previous quality, to help us all emulate it.

We also must remember that at the end of the day a nes is a world created by the mod and its players. The more stories the richer the world and the more intresting the nes becomes.

Actually there are and were many stories in bonus-less NESes. Not in all of them, ofcourse, but just you look on LINES II! I think it depends more on the setting and the players than on the rules.

As for the newbies in general, most of them have lots of time to improve. I DO hope that some of them at least would read the NES guide - IMHO its not quite complete or any sort of a substitute for actual NESing experience, but it is/could be useful.

Is that Spam I smell on your breath Turner? Wait... now that I've said that... I think I just spammed myself.

Before people get gungho about moving for new members, out of curiosity, how many people are currently NESing, how many newbs come through and stick it out for any length of time? Does anyone have any idea about these numbers?
I try to add all NESers to my buddy list. Right now, it has 77 NESers, and I'm missing a few of the new ones (though some of the old ones aren't around anymore).

I mistated myself. I should have said:

Not getting (in my case, 2, I think) too many warnings.

Yeah, but six or seven probably doesn't look good. ;)

Well, I have bonuses, in that I don't like killing off my story-writers, or very interesting nations (though I still do when necessary, sorry das :p). So stories translate into better battles, more stability, and general more pleasant NESing.
