The Gauntlet of Eight

Inneresting, started where I started from....

Off to Sesn

Alerum 68 has sent me his password but none of the others have so having the passwords remains pretty useless I have all of them.

BTW it is nice to see so many "new" PBEM players. Feel free to participate in others too ! New blood is always appreciated. More often that wished PBEMs die or get stalled for a long time but quite a few reach their natural end too.

Sorry I did not follow the thread that closely so I don't really know. What's up ?

Edit :
If it is a "scenario" (a biq file actually), maybe it should posted here so I check there is no "skip the first tun" or something checked in... because it makes me think of that feature (used in WWII conquest).
Other possibility, you don't all have C3C + 1.22 patch

Anyway it is really not normal.

We played all (I guess) our first turn as normal, then when turn two was up, it still said it's 4000BC and while food, commerce and production from the first turn ocurred, some of us could not move our worker and others had to replay the whole turn...it seems as if someone's turn has not been recorded somehow, because from alerum to smackster, we had our production, but could not do anything and from scoutsouts' turn on they had to replay theit turn. Maybe there is really someone with another version?

Sesn drops back to pass ..... sees nothing .... gets flushed from the pocket ..... scrambles out to his right.... sees Bugsy streaking down the far sideline ..... heaves up a lllooonnnnggg bomb (cross country, in fact) ..... Bugsy races under it and......

(I had to replay turn1 also)

very wierd. The save was created through the Multi-Player window. No scenerio was chosen, nothing altered. I turned off sci-leaders, but left everything else the same as a stock game. Suggestions gentleman? Want to try, yet a THIRD time? Maybe have a third person, who's not actually in the game create it? (grins at Lou)

Sounds like a plan. This was getting to be pretty funny, though.

Hey Lou, can you give advice on how to keep the game flowing the smoothest? We've made sure to go east to west now, and we've all aggreed to play it as soon as we recieve it, time willing, but a turn a day is getting rough, and if this goes to the MA, we're looking at 2 years worth of game play.:p Has one of these really finished?;)

There's no way this will actually last two years.

It will speed up as people get eliminated, and once we have things started and fall into a rhythym, we should be able to move things right along.

Question: Why did you set it at Regent difficulty? I would have thought Monarch or Emperor would be more appropriate, especially since there is no ai's....

EDIT: Besides, isn't civ4 supposed to be out for next Christmas? That means I'll only commit to a year or so, because at that point, I'll dive right into the new one. :p

:bump:

Just wondering where we stand on this?

I'm waiting for Bugsy to pass it off to me, then when we know if it was a fluke with the turn, or if things are jacked up.... if it's jacked up we'll figure out what to do then.

Alright guys, the save is corrupt. It's back at 4000BC, my worker won't move, and I have the same amount of food and production as the first turn. Well gentleman, what would you like to do?

Of course you play the game you want but why don't you try out a conquest scenario with less players first. The game would play faster, it would end sooner, you'd in direct action and it would be good experience as well if you want to try a full epic later on. My 2 cents. And normally the MP versions are not "corrupt". Don't know how you got it that way.

BTW sorry failed to see the question earlier about time zones.
Honestly I haven't seen that much a difference. It can make a difference if you have few players who have both extremely precise and regular times of play and sometimes you can have 2-3 turns a day that way) but it is quite difficult to set up and it is very fragile if any change occurs.

The only scenarios I have any experience with are the Middle ages and Napoleonic Europe.

Regardless, I'm not interested in a PBEM scenario, to be honest. I have no desire to learn all that info when going up against you guys. ;)

Rise of Rome - 4 human player, 4 AI, 130 turns
Middle-Ages - 8 humans, 0 AI, 204 turns quite long (turn and length) already though.
Discovery : 5 humans, 3 AI (or possibly 8 humans), 150 turns
Napoleonic : 7 humans, 1 AI, 96 turns
WWII Pacific : 5 humans, 0 AI, 50 turns (usually much less !).

are what I would advise. Meso-America has only 3 humans, FoR is AFAIC long, boring and apparently out of the question, Mesopotamia has 8 humans, is long (160 turns) and a bit monotonous and Sengoku is as long as any epic game. Now it might depend on how many you are and if everybody is interested in scenarios. Others might prefer to stick to the epic.
