The Huns for BtS

Awesome!
I will try it out as soon as I have some free time.

EDIT: Alright, I lied, I'm a university student, always have free time. As soon as I finish my previous game :D

Whenever I see someone using the install scripts I wrote I like to download their mod, and make sure everything is working. Tried that here, but the Installer says it's corrupted. Whenever this has happened to me it's been a problem with the site I uploaded to, I'm surprised mediafire managed to screw up a 7MB upload, I only ever end up downloading corrupted files when my upload is over 200MB. But anyway, what you have on mediafire is corrupted you need to reupload it.

Uups... sorry. Thank you for your hints. Must have been mediafire or the upload itself that corrupted it as I tried the installer without having troubles. Re-upload it soon...

EDIT: Tried to fix the download problem, but mediafire is crazy today... On my laptop I get the message that there are no files available on my mediafire account and on my desktop machine the download itself doesn't work. I get the message "click here to start download..." there, but after clicking only a very fast refresh happens that leads me back to the pages with that download message. The download itself doesn't start. You might try it yourself, maybe you have more luck then me: http://www.mediafire.com/file/br5zqontno2/Huns Mod for BtS v2.1.0 Setup.exe. I'll check this again in the evening, maybe mediafire has some hardware problemand manages to fix it till then.
BTW1: If I'd register at weplayciv.com, how much webspace would I get?
BTW2: @Ekmek: I think Attila is not shadered, at least not completely (watch the face and the beard). I could shader it by my own, but the necessary maps are missing. Also, the texture doesn't seem to be a retexture of a default civ4 leaderhead, so no shader map I could reuse either. I could create those files by my own (there is a plugin that creates normal maps, env_mask and spec are greyscaled versions of he texture and env could be reused), but I made the experience that my maps aren't that good. I can remember that you said you pay more attention to shaders in your leaderhead thread. Do you think you could give this a go?

You could host your file at filefront.com if mediafire isn't working. Also filefront keeps track of how many downloads you get. Atomic gamer also works well. Two others are strategyInformer.com and ModDB.com, both are good file hosts however SI and ModDB usually take a day before your file is available from when you upload it, as they are dedicated mod providers and must check your files for viruses and malware before they aprove them. But I've never had a single problem with StrategyInformer or ModDB.

Okay, thank you two. I keep the alternatives in mind, better said I will look them up if necessary. For now mediafire seems to work again. Actually, the link I gave you last time, seems to work. I had no errors after 're-downloading' and installing the mod. The link in the file database thread is fixed now. Have fun with my mod, phungus!

I also keep an eye open for your update to Kossuth and Attila, Ekmek! :)

Sure, do what you want with this!

Hey Cool!
I saw your comment of a second LH on Methyl's thread.
Answered there too, but i think another leader would be great for the huns.
Even if we can't have anyone closely as important as Attila, its a good idea.
I prefer Bleda, but it can be another leader if we find a better one...

Yeah, I'd like to add a second leader to this. Just to have all information about this collected here, there were two suggestions for leaders so far (both made by me):
- Rua / Ruga / Rugila (Attilas uncle)
- Bleda (Attilas brother)
A third option would be Mundzuk / Mundzsuk / Bendegúz (Attilas and Bledas father), a fourth could be Oktar (Rugas and Mundzuks brother). The hungarian article about Mundzuk mentions, that the Huns turned into a centralized empire under his and his brothers rule (seems like they shared the power). That justifies that one of these three (probably Mundzuk or Ruga) could be the second leader. Of course, I am open to further suggestions. At the moment I'd like to do some 'brain storming' about who could be the leader and what could be the traits. After that, I might request some animated leaderhead. I could imagine that a high skull (like Bakuels units have it) could be a nice and unique feature of such a leaderhead. I mean, as there don't seem to be pictures or descriptions of these men, we are free to make them look however we want them to.

So you would rather like one of the three brothers (Attila's 2 uncles and his father).
I still prefer Bleda, couse i think he is known more, but actually this makes more sence.
Just don't know based on what will we decide which one of the 3 :)

From the short texts I've read, it appears that Ruga was the most important of the 3... Seems like unification of the Huns was actually his work.

I just read some hungarian and english articles regarding the hun leaders.
Unfortunatly there is many contradiction in them...

In many sources:
Mundzuk (Bendeguz), older brother of Ruga, father of Bleda and Attila, ruled at about 415-420
Rugila (Ruga), lived 365-434, ruled at about 425-434, and he united the huns by 432
Bleda (Buda), lived 390-445, ruled 434-445
Attila (406-453), ruled 434-453

But in another source:
In 434 Ruga was succeeded briefly by his brother Mundzuk, who was rumoured to have had killed him. For this Mundzuk was expelled and his sons Attila and Bleda became joint rulers of the united Hunnic tribes. Ruga served as an important forerunner to Attila

Because of these contradictions I think Mundzuk is out. I suppose some of the information is for Oktar, the third brother, but i cant really decide which ones...
And i think because Bleda was only a joint ruler with Attila (and of course Attila is already in) he won't be a good choice either.

So overally u are right, Ruga is indeed our best bet for a second LH!

EDIT: french sources about Mundzuk seems to be different too

From the short texts I've read, it appears that Ruga was the most important of the 3... Seems like unification of the Huns was actually his work.

Yes, i got to the same establishment. One more thing besides Ruga

Expansive might then be an option for Ruga...

EDIT: ... and / or organized.

the huns... first time i heard about them was from Age of Empires... so cool to finally find them on CIV...

I've started to edit Ekmeks shadered Attila. Things I've done so far:
- removed lightning and smoke effect
- changed background
- slightly changed the colour of Attilas eyes (before that, they were pretty reddish, which was okay while Attila was standing near a fire as he did in Ekmeks original version; now that he is shown on a sunny day, they sticked out pretty much - I even tend to say that in the new context he really looked like a demon...)
- changed the lights to be neutral in colour and fit to a sunny day
EDIT:
- slightly moved down the helmet as otherwise there was sometimes a hole in the head visible

I'm not 100% satisfied with the light settings, but roughly that's how he will look like. At the moment I don't play to upload a new version of this mod till nitram finishs his Ruga (that should not hurry you, nitram). And if there are no other suggestions, I keep the previously suggested traits for Ruga:
- expansive
- organized

Shouldn't a lot of those names on the city list be the latinized version? Considering when they were conquered or sacked they had latin names?
