The lack of a unique model for a unique unit from Great Britain is an embarrassment.

The more I look at the in-game BPS model, the more I can’t unsee a stack of four brown beer bottles, shaken and opened in unison upon completion. You can’t convince me otherwise :p

And then it wouldn't look like the Battersea and you would have an 8+ page of people saying that YOU screwed up the look of the Wonder for this paid DLC.
They were totally fine with this discourse for the DLC's UU lol

It's still much better launch than Civ5
Launch Civ 5 was an absolute travesty and the rose colored glasses over it that many people have still annoys me, but that’s for another thread entirely (or ranting reddit post but I have neither the desire nor energy for either option)

I ordered the deluxe edition, and while I was hesitant to spend $30 on what seemed like very little content for $30, I decided my weekend plans for 5 days early access was worth $15, which made the upgrade worth it. However, $60 extra for founders seemed way to steep.

Now, I am disappointed in Firaxis that they couldn't even be bothered to release decent quality of these small DLCs at large price tags. I feel these DLCs should be $20. But if they are just gonna copy/paste assets, these need to be $10 DLCs.

Why was the release of Civ5 so bad?
I didn’t follow the launch of Civ5; I kept playing Civ4 for another couple of years before migrating to the next interation.

But yes, despite the interface issues, Civ7 is quite fun and has a lot of potential. I think the game will be well-polished in about a year.

I still think one of the biggest issues is the legacy paths that make the eras feel rushed. Especially in the Modern Age, where you have to rush insanely to achieve a Victory.
Civ 5 needed 2 expansions to become a good civ game. It was a very barebones experience. It wasnt polished. AI was very bad.(worse than 7s imo) You can if memory serves, play a game on Civ 5 base rules, and see the difference between that and where its at now. If Civ 5 came out today, it would be receiving a similar if not worse blowback than 7 is currently. Fortunately for it, it came out before steam reviews, and the shift in gaming culture. Civ games needing expansions to hit their potential is not new though. Personally i think 7 is in a better state than 5 at release, but if we are comparing it to 5, then we arent in a good spot.

Despite my many disagreements or neutral feelings for a lot of 7s design decisions, i am still having fun. With time, this could be a great game. Question is, how long is that going to take, and will we get there. How many people will still be around to play by that point or have they moved on? Everyone likes comparing raw sales, but no one is talking about refund rate. Will they have the funding to continue developing like they originally planned for many years to come? This isnt 2010 where they could get away with it more. Just sorting out the UI and technical bugs associated with it (city connections) would go a long ways in helping this game out.

I’ve been giving the game the benefit that the doubt and even willing to glaze it at points, but this is the straw that broke the camels back for me. It’s absolutely unacceptable.

I really really don”t want to join the “I’ll wait till it’s finished to play more” crowd but it’s like the game is trying to convince me to.
Yes you can say it’s a minor issue but I paid a good amount of money I expected models for UUs at literally the very least.

Just remember this for next time: they didn't wait to finish it before they took your money.

Ngl I think people are blowing the lack of a UU model a bit out of proportion - it's not a good look for them, sure. But if it was a cut corner, it's like the smallest possible corner they could've cut, it has no bearing on gameplay whatsoever. (Not to mention they're already working on fixing it.)

Also icl if it was any other civ that lacked a unique unit, I don't think people would be nearly as upset.

to me personally, the missing UU by itself isnt what is hurting my morale towards them. I can still play and have fun without it. It is however part of a trend that is not good for Civ 7. They just had a very meh release, with a high priced DLC with a highly valued civ and they fumbled it. If they keep fumbling stuff like this down the road, then 7s future will be in more doubt, and maybe even the studio. How will people have confidence in them if it continues?

They should of adapted to the situation and delayed the DLC. It would of avoided this hit, and would have been a good PR move overall. Im going to be generous and place the blame on 2k and not Firaxis. Lets hope the 2nd half of this DLC is finished when it comes out later this month.

Perhaps, but I imagine delaying the DLC would've upset people too. Might've been a decision between that or hoping people wouldn't mind not having a unique unit model for a week.
Considering how much of the 2nd half of the DLC already seems to exist, hopefully it will be complete :P

Does this DLC have any difficult to create gfx? Such as leaderheads.
Because if it is only some tags, no new code (just manipulation, like in an editor) and a few building models, imo it shouldn't be at $30.
But leaderheads and (depending on quality) units are a different issue :)

disagree, art is the part that differentiate free mods and paid DLC.

without all the art, the DLC is incomplète.

releasing it too early with an apology is fine in my book, delaying it would be too, but releasing it as if it was complete then reacting only when people point out it's incomplete is worrying for the future releases.

Delaying is better than releasing unfinished

people will be upset as well but Firaxis could have not set such an early release date, or just don't do preorder on dlcs

This I agree !!

The entire DLC thing is often misunderstood in my opinion - by publishers AND players. You are only mad about that because the base game is unfinished or bad. If the game was amazing and finished I would personally be happy to pay 100-120 dollars for the base game and 30-60 dollars for DLC quite often. So there is a market for it. People want more of what they like and are willing to pay a lot.

It just falls apart when you cannibalize the base game to create a DLC and dont even finish the base game before release or even new DLC. Or dumb everything down like civ7 with small maps etc.

I have not bought the game. I got plenty of money to spend on good games and a ton of DLC. That model works for good games. Civ7 is just not it.
