The Long Freeze

<snip> I too wonder why they just don't play a faster speed (though I realize the mod isn't balanced for the faster speeds).

I've been playing the faster speeds for several versions now and Much prefer them than the slower. The ratio of turns to techs to units is better paced imho for Epic and Normal than the slower speeds. And I was beginning to like Normal even better than Epic Before these latest changes.

Also the game since ls612 took over the game speed part is just Not balanced for Snail anymore imo. But for a wider range of preferences.

But like SO I have considerable time invested in the current game that got the changes while I was still in Classical Era. On the day I updated to the New speeds my game date went fron 2000BC+ to 209AD. I'm not complaining because I was warned to start a new game and I have not done so yet.

This brings up a question though, has anyone used the new speeds on an Autorun game to check game flow? Cause depending upon game actually played takes much longer to gather data And you get caught up in the game many times.

can i ask something . can you fix the 1500 ad being on industrial era

The year and the era have no direct connection.

The era is determined entirely by what techs you know. If you research an Industrial era tech, you are advanced to the industrial era. It doesn't matter of they year is 1800 or 180 (or 1800 BC, for that matter).

If you target an Industrial tech, skipping many earlier techs, you will obviously get the tech sooner (if you don't overdo it and skip too many useful techs) and if you get the tech sooner you will get to the era sooner.

Player skill relative to the difficulty the game is set on has a strong effect on how far off the era vs. year is. A good player playing on Noble will get to the Industrial era in a much earlier year than a poor player playing on Monarch. This was true in regular BtS and it is still true in C2C. There is nothing you can do about it in BtS except play at a more appropriate difficulty. In C2C there is not a lot you can do about it, but there is at least one thing: you can use one of the options in C2C that adjusts the game difficulty based on how well you are doing. There is a BUG option that can presumably be activated at any time that adjusts the difficulty level like this.

Because of this there is no real way to "fix the 1500 ad being on industrial era" other than getting it pretty close for a player playing on exactly the right difficulty level for their skill level in a game where everything progresses in a perfectly average manner. Getting it like that for every skill level at every game speed is not practical (and is probably not actually possible, given that there is a finite, and rather small, amount of time to make such adjustments before the game itself changes again).

@God-Emperor:

Yes, you are right it is not possible to make tech progression exactly follow history. However, one of my goals has been to make it approximately follow the historical level of tech progression, which is possible to a certain extent. Industrial in AD 1500 is far closer than what I've been seeing for a while, so this change is progress.

@ls612 please add "adjust terrain and feature health and happiness values" now that we have pests and disease explicitly do the things that these values used to do. Goes under game balance.

Done, and I've also updated the list to show what we've fixed so far.

The volcano message issue is not quite fixed. It is now at what was requested but not at what I want. You still may not get messages for volcano events that occur where you can see the event.

Hm. Do you intend to do anything more with them during the freeze?

There is also the terrain problem - when a volcano spawns on coast it does not change any neighbouring ocean tiles to coast - I just remembered this one.;) i should be able to do that at the same time.

@ls612

Please add these to the list ...

- Identifying and replacing redundant tech quotes.

- Replacing redundant Civic icon/buttons.

- Replacing redundant or missing Unit Class icon/buttons.

- Fixing broken Unit icon/buttons.

Thanks! :goodjob:

The last 3 I will need to do while the first one goes to Vokarya.

Done.

If we are in a Freeze period, what happened to Flammability and it's Dramatic increase?

Really out of place as it has no counter in the early game (up to and thru Classical Era) and waaayyy to many early buildings have +20 Flam.. Really unbalanced as all get out. Bad for the next version.
