German police 'have almost enough evidence' to charge jailed paedophile, 43, who burgled holiday homes and was in Madeleine McCann resort on night she vanished 13 years ago with her MURDER
Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann (centre) 13 years ago are convinced that a 43-year-old suspect is the man who kidnapped her and are hoping to solve the case, MailOnline understands. A German man, convicted of child sex abuse and currently in jail on an 'unrelated matter', has not been named by British police but was living in a 1980s campervan (top left) in Praia da Luz, Portugal around the time Maddie disappeared on May 3, 2007. Police revealed today that the suspect took a 30-minute call on his Portuguese phone around an hour before the toddler was snatched from the family's holiday apartment (bottom left) while parents Kate and Gerry McCann were at a tapas restaurant metres away. He has also been linked to a 1993 Jaguar XJR6 with a German number plate seen in Praia da Luz in 2006 and 2007 which was re-registered to a different owner the day after Maddie vanished. Both vehicles have been seized. And further evidence suggests that he was dealing drugs and burgled hotels and apartment complexes in the area to making a living, leading German police to suggest that he could have silently crept into the McCann's apartment and kidnapped Madeleine.
