Question: The bathtub floor is slippery and I keep smashing up my knee on the edge when I slip. Tried several bathtub mats but they slip around too. Is there something you can put on the floor to make it not so bad, like a spray or something.

Just put a towel on the floor.

I think that she meant inside the tub??

Oh.

Problem solved.

Just in case that's not clear:

Can anyone give me examples of non-English words for scientific terms which aren't just the English word adapted to the language? Getting tired of situations such as "nanotechnology" (Arabic تقانة الصغائر, "tiqníyya al-naanu"), "proteasome" (Japanese プロテアソーム, "puroteasomu"), and "fermion" (Russian фермион, "fermion").

Do they have a latin or greek derivative? If the word was coined in English, unless it has a well known Latin, or Greek association are going to be translated from the English.

Algebra and alchemy are both Arabic words, I believe. The main problem is that many of the great innovators of the 18th and 19th Centuries were British, swiftly followed by Anglophone dominance in the 20th Century.

Where should I post a thread about "What happened to (insert username here)?"?

I think there's a general thread somewhere but I don't remember the name of it. If I did I'd post a link.

Why does it seem that on the TV channels from the U.S. my mother watches, all the commercials are either for lawyers or those overpriced colleges?

I'm not sure about the colleges, but for lawyers, it's because you can sue anybody for anything. (In fact, I'm currently considering suing some guy I saw at Walmart the other day because his face looked strange. True story.)

Consider yourself blessed, though, if you don't have drug commercials on those channels. Or upside-down tomato plant basket commercials. :crazyeye:

Well sometimes they have acne cream commercials.

That's nothing. We've got drugs for everything from low testosterone to low drug intake.

But those drug commercials are fun to watch.

Ask your doctor about this new wonder drug that cures itchiness, side effects may include rash, dry mouth, blindness, headaches, itchiness, swelling, death, and in rare cases a rash.

I once saw a commercial for a headache relief that one of the side effects was ... a headache. And no the headache wasnt a migraine.

What shows does she watch?

The ones where people keep screaming at each other that they're cheating and they swear a lot and do polygraphs thinking that they're very accurate. Then they scream more. Sometimes they take off their clothes and start dancing.

Jerry Springer?

For-profit colleges are designed to exploit low-income people lacking proper education, whom I imagine constitute a big part of such shows' demographics. Lawyers who advertise on TV tend to be into promising easy money to people who feel taken advantage of.
