No problem.

I've never seen British restaurants anywhere. :D

Haven't ever been in the UK though. And well, Finnish cuisine isn't a thing to brag about either, I think. Or at least that's what foreigners think.

Old post, but I wanted to respond.

It's a pub, but they have a restaurant too. For the hell of it I tried some food. It was lamb. I never had lamb before. It was disgusting. Now I know why people don't eat British food. :) The scotch egg was pretty good (not particularly healthy though :) )

Yeah, "British" pubs (generally "English" or "Scottish") are pretty common around here. The other type of restaurant that claims to be British is fish and chips places.

I don't know why people disparage British food. While there are a number of things I don't like or refuse to try I find it excellent. Sure it doesn't look fancy like French stuff, but taste is the first and foremost consideration.

What's interesting about British food is that it is all at the very bottom food for poor people. It's all attempts to make a meal out of small amounts of inexpensive meats, and somehow we got just good enough at it that if you take some really decent ingredients you can actually make something very tasty.

The problem, though, is that we rarely get to that second part, and mostly it just remains as offal plastered together with starch. Such is the way of things.

There is only one place within 90 miles of me that sells haggis, and every time I am anywhere close to it I keep forgetting to get some. I'm really keen on trying it and it upsets me that I keep forgetting :(

I'm not complaining.

Of course I was raised on that type of stuff so it is what I am used to.

Aw, but lamb is delicious. :(

Climate is an important factor too. Before the fridge hotter countries tended to have greater traditions of sauces since meat was far more likely to start to go off, and of course it was far too expensive to waste.

Can some convince me there's a non-snobby way to use "ratiocination" instead of "reasoning"?
