The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

To the guitarists out there:

When I'm reading a tab, and I see a slide that look like this "0/4," how exactly do I slide an open string to the fourth fret? Don't you need a finger on a fret somewhere to do a slide?

Sounds like a hammer on rather than a slide.

I could play it on the next string over the 0/4 would be 5/9 on that, but my movement up and down the neck isn't very fast yet.

Thanks though. I'll just rewrite it to play on the other strings further up (down?) the neck.

Depends on the book. But the common novel, half a year to a year. For nonfiction, they often come out in what they call the trade paperback, which is the paperback which is the size of a hardcover book, in a year or so.

Are those the tiny ones that like to fall apart?

Why does Dave Franco resemble Christina Ronaldo so much?

The poor manufacture of some books doesn't change when they are published.

I have some books over 100 years old that are in better shape than cheap paperbacks less than a year old.

What's the difference between last.fm and Pandora? Which one is better?
Since Pandora is named for a certain sci-fi moon, and since so many people here hate that movie, it should be plainly obvious which channel people here think would be better.

What moon? I thought Pandora was some stupid Greek chick that opened a box when a man clearly told her not to (hence all the world's demons).

Pandora's method for finding different music sucks compared to last.fm's and it has waaaaaay more ads.

I have a floor lamp. Something like this (actually, exactly like this):

So, after an incident involving me falling from a great height and landing on the lamp, the aluminium pole snapped in two at where the wire leads into it (it's not damaged otherwise). If possible, how best should I put it back together again, short of welding it together.?

Tape the top end to a wall. This isn't a joke, I would do that. Job done in like sixty seconds.
