Kind of goes along with the ideas to have a gathering of Civ fanatics. Probably the best day to do it. Although it might also be a good day if you have to do last minute Christmas shopping.

What are the odds of somebody starting a thread on this similar to the Mubarak/Nostradamus idea?

My wisdom tooth is bothering me again. Im out of ibuprofen and don't have any cloves. I read to try hydrogren peroxide but when I did I gagged. Same with salt-water. Any other suggestions?

To use my example, 1/1/2000 is only the date once. If every day after it has the same date (which it must because the calendar ended), then it will only be correct once for the rest of time.

I mean why haven't we been the Mars yet? We could of done that in the 1970s i imagine, plus - why haven't we been to the Moon since the end of the Apollo programm? Why such fail? We get so many benefits from space exploration and experiments.

No, we really couldn't have.

A return trip to the moon takes a week. A return trip to and from Mars might take anywhere between a year and a half to three years or more, if you really want a mission to really be worth the cost. A mission to Mars is on a much more massive scale than a lunar mission, and even now we don't know for sure how to tackle all the technical issues yet.

Partly general apathy, and partly because there are other things to do.

Why such fail? We get so many benefits from space exploration and experiments.

Indeed. And NASA and other space agencies has been doing rather a lot of that over the years, from Earth observation satellites to orbital telescopes to manned space stations to planetary exploration using robotic spacecrafts. Just because you don't see people planting flags on the Moon or Mars doesn't mean that there's no progress.

The moonshot had military grade unlimited funding. Now NASA is starved for a budget.

Apollo 17, the longest manned lunar mission so far, made the trip to the moon and back in 9 days, not including 3 days spent on the lunar surface (Apollo 8, which was not a landing mission, did it in six days). With current technology it'd take at least 6 months just to get to Mars, not counting the time spent on the planet for study and the time waiting for the next launch window, and the return trip.

i apologize, my question was not in response to the calander post, it was a seperate "question not worth it's own thread" question....

assuming this picture is in fact, that of a broken clock....how many times in a day would it be correct?

Well then 2, at 0834 and 2034.

And I don't mean to be a pain, but 'U R' sounds to me like somebody reading the alphabet backwards. I might be the only one here who reads it as 'uniform Romeo', but I'm not the only one who gets annoyed when people use text language.

Why does sliced bread have holes in it? I hate that. I think it has to deal with impurities or something.

I think we need the U.S. government to regulate the bread industry to ensure no bread is sold that has holes in it. Don't they know that the jelly falls through those holes (in a pb&j sandwich) and makes a mess? This is surely one of the most important issues of our time. I should call my congressman about this.

Bread dough rises and expands as it is made. That's gasses inside it generated by the yeast. I think the big holes are just in the cheapest made bread. The better stuff seams to have less than that.

It also has to do with the amount of gluten(?) in the bread. Wheat has low amounts of gluten -> big holes. Rye bread has high amounts of gluten -> small holes.
