The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

Question: this article (you dont have to click unles you want to) makes a reference to "cheshire grins." Whats this mean?

Well then 2, at 0834 and 2034.

And I don't mean to be a pain, but 'U R' sounds to me like somebody reading the alphabet backwards. I might be the only one here who reads it as 'uniform Romeo', but I'm not the only one who gets annoyed when people use text language.

uniform Romeo sure this is the best answer to the question?

it is a fine answer, just dont know if it is the best one to this particular question...anyone else?

assuming this picture is in fact, that of a broken clock....how many times in a day would it be correct?

No way! Damn, I was just getting excited reading up on how scientists have traced our ancestry back to one large goat!

I was liking that. How awesome would it be to be descended from goats? I wish we still had horns though. :(

What do you mean? I've never seen a racial slur have anything to do with my sentence.

Cracker (pejorative), an abusive or slang term for a [united states] Southern white person

Ain't American English slang wonderful, people?

It was a joke. "Crackers" is clearly referring to the food in your context.

And to answer your question, the holes in crackers and other flatbreads (like pizza dough) are inserted in the dough to prevent large air bubbles from forming in it while the dough is baking.

Any Italian (?) speakers out there? I'm wondering what "Volto sciolto, pensieri stretti" means. (Apologies if I'm butchering the spelling; typing it out from memory.)

What's the difference between a monarchy and a dictatorship? My mother has been insisting that she's right that Gaddafi's rule has been a monarchy and I tell her she's wrong because Gaddafi has never taken the title of king, but she's too pigheaded to see that.
