The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

Can switching to GIECO really save you 15% or more on car insurance?

If you're only nice to anyone if you'll get something out of it, you'll just get a (deserved) reputation as a prat.

Not being considered a prat is an incentive.

What is this?

What is the oldest word in the English language that may have roots in multiple languages?

Does anyone know if it's possible to 'reset' the auto correct? And if so how? Because my iPod now autocorrects as into "A's"

What is it called when an article is written by some news company and it appears in multiple newspapers? I run into them alot when working with my archives (a lot of time is spent trying to sort them out).

AFAIK it's called syndication.

Water maybe? Vod/wod i think

Anyone know?

The English word fart is one of the oldest words in the English vocabulary. Its Indo-European origins are confirmed by the many cognate words in other Indo-European languages: It is cognate with Greek πέρδομαι (perdomai), Latin pēdĕre, Sanskrit pardate, Avestan pərəδaiti, French "péter", Russian пердеть (perdet') and Polish "pierd" << PIE *perd [break wind loudly] or *pezd [the same, softly], all of which mean the same thing. Like most Indo-European roots in the Germanic languages, it was altered by Grimm's law, so that Indo-European /p/ > /f/, and /d/ > /t/, as the German cognate furzen also manifests.[3][4][5]

:dunno:

Dunno. I don't see any paragliding going on so it can't be about female menstruation.

Obviously, parachuting needs bodyform ultraplus.

Odd.

Question: Some years back (it was sometime when I was 7 or 8, I think) my mom had the news on, something about a plane crash and they showed a video of the submarine or something for hours even though it didnt seem to be moving. Does anyone know what Im talking about?

I don't know how old you are now, so I can't do the math and come up with a specific year, but you might be referring to the Russian Kursk submarine, which suffered explosions and crashed to the seabed during training exercises in August 2000.

Sounds like something from LOST ;)

But really - without specifics the most you could is look up a list of plane crashes. Probably still can't narrow it down but you can find ones that crashed in the ocean that might match, like this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swissair_Flight_111

Well I dont remember who crashed the plane, someone famous I think or they wouldnt have been making such a big deal about it. A plane crashed into the ocean. And then I think they also pulled it up when they found it... very hazy memory.
