I endorse letting loose wolves into Hobbsyoyo's habitat.

As long as you keep them fed (and you don't look lustfully at the alpha b itch), they're no problem at all. According to some wolf expert I was reading about.

Yup. They don't really attack people the way they do in movies like The Grey (excellent movie, btw - Liam Neeson is really burying himself in his work since his wife died).

I kind of want to try to eat bear meat. And wolf meat. I have hankering to eat all sorts of animals lately. I must not be getting enough protein.

There's a part of me that wants to see Battleship, just to see if he redeemed that godawful premise at all. I mean, it worked for Unknown, but this is even bigger and, as I understand it, his role is pretty small.

Usually when a wolf appears in a movie, it's not actually wolf but a trained dog, often a Siberian Husky or a German Shepherd.
How ironic, they have to train dogs to attack people cuz the wolves won't do it. Oh and earlier I didn't mean to make it sound like wolves are furry, friendly little forrest critters - they aren't - they are just scared enough of people to stay away.

I kind of want to see that, but mostly to laugh at it. He has been in a ton of movies this year, poor fellow.

I want to try horse.

Dude, they're there :) Along with black bears. They are very rare, and you may never see one, but trust me you have them!

Really? I didn't know wolves were here in Missouri. I've seen coyotes and a bobcat in Southern Illinois and I know that occassionally cougars wonder out this way. No idea about the wolves. Black bears are pretty much everywhere and basically harmless.

Do you like the cougars hobbs?

I know one reason that happened with Gladiator is that as it was filmed in England, the film makers couldn't use wolves because of the law, so they had to train a German Shepherd. It was going to be in more of the film but the dog couldn't play a convincing wolf.

One of the films I saw where the wolves are obviously dogs was I think Cliffhanger. There's a scene where the characters are stranded in a forest and then a pack of wolves attack them. There's a scene with a close up of one of the wolves, and it has blue eyes, and when the wolves flee, their tails curl over their backs.

Adolph Murie, the first person to research wolves, when he studied them in Mt. McKinley he made a comment that the trait he noticed the most about the wolves was their friendliness.

For their size, I think the wolf is the least dangerous animal, but wolf attacks did happen in history. It was only the Europeans and Americans who tried to do something about it, as they viewed the wolf as a demon that God willed them to destroy.

Most modern wolf attacks at least in North America aren't actually caused by wolves, but either by wolf-dog hybrids or wolf-coyote hybrids.

They're relatively safe in the wild unless they're starving, but they still tend to kill the misguided who try to keep a pack of them as pets.

I think I've heard that in North America there are almost no recorded incidents of a healthy wolf attacking a human except under duress. They would really rather keep their distance from you.

I've heard that too but didn't want to source it so I didn't post it.

I have heard (but can't be bothered to source ) that predators and pack-predators in particular, are easier to tame than herbivores. They have less natural fear and as such are more approachable.

 Those people, and the people who keep chimps and grizzlie bears cuz they're so cute are out of their minds.

Nah, they scare me to death. ;)

It's actually a myth. Wolves have been known to attack American Indians, but depending on the culture their relationship with wolves is different than to that of the Americans and Europeans.

I suppose so, but the chances that things would line up for that to happen are vanishingly small. Then again, billions upon billions and all that.

The world needs more Sagan.

Probably a question only Britons can answer.
