Oooh nice idea. Any others?

Frak I don't know Iowa but if fossil those deposits are any indication, there is probably soom really cool bluffs around to hike that have great views. They're the same deposits I used to dig through near the bluffs in Southern Illinois. But, winter. :(

Gon' be in the 40s tomorrow, might not be that bad there. The Iowa City government website lists a crapton of parks and trails. I like visiting historic cemetaries(you, by the way, should really visit Alton if you are near St. Louis), but that takes a specific kinda gal. Not sure I married an entirely normal one.

I wanted to see that giant glyph in the rocks near Alton but never made it out there. Yeah, the cemetaries are an odd thing to do...but eh I have faith my man could pull it off.

They do have a ton of parks but again, winter. This is for some undetermined date in a couple of weeks when we can assume it will be colder. Hmmm....carriage ride maybe?

Carriage ride? I thought it wasn't supposed to be datey. :D

Though then again, he could just ditch the pretense, go to the theater, go on a carriage ride, and then cook her dinner and have her help wash the dishes and throw in a movie. That's being pretty upfront with the fact that he is trying to get laid tho.

Isn't this just overthinking the whole thing? There's too many imponderables here to know what's to do.

Why doesn't your friend just find a nice enough restaurant, with good heating, and have a pleasant evening enjoying the company of someone he likes?

Or take her out to a pub, have a few beers, and a game of darts. Followed by a fish supper. And if he's got loads of money a taxi ride home.

Mr.B, I am back to do that :).

Is getting drunk in college OK?

No, any form of frivolity or fun is foolish and flippant.

I'd personally write Hobbs' thread - since that's what I'd say. Hobbs's is just too twee, and I'd never say "Hobbses" (Too much like hobbitses). Though it may be correct according to some, dare I say outdated, grammar books.

In the past it was standard to add the extra "s" to any singular noun ending in "s" only plurals would not have it. For example, if "Hobbs" reffered to two "Hobb" than Hobbs' is entirely correct.

However both forms are commonly accepted and it would be rare for someone not being a pedantic ass to say anything whether you added the extra "s" or not. Even some major style guides accept it, the Chicago manual of style prefers the added "s" but accepts not having it. So unless you are writing under the auspices of a particular style guide that doesn't accept it, both are valid.

Is getting drunk in college OK?

It's largely socially acceptable once you leave high school and enter college with the following caveats:

1) You aren't a member of law enforcement or charged with enforcing rules that conform to law.
2) You aren't a member of a social circle that frowns upon drinking at any age.
3) You aren't going to do anything heinous like drive a car after drinking or abuse a member of the desired sex while intoxicated.
4) Don't kill yourself or allow anyone else do so. It's still poison even if it's fun - it can and does kill people.

and this is the big one...

5) You don't become so enamored of the intoxicated fun that you let your studies and community involvement slip. People go to college for a purpose. It isn't to drink. It can involve drinking in some amount.

That adequately cover the bases good sir?

Perfect! :)

Is getting drunk anywhere OK?

I've done multiple tests on this very question. Varying conditions such as ambient temperature, gender and age of attendants, various alcoholic beverages and mixtures thereof.

Tentative conclusions indicate a negative, so far.
