The MapView Project - Editor/Viewer

Is this compatible with BTS? Seems like it can't find the BTS WorldBuilder extensions... :(

Problem: On attempting to run this, I get an error: "Civilization 4 is required".

So far as I know, I have Civ4 installed on my computer (or what have I been playing all these years?). Can anyone help?

I''m just looking for a certain reg entry there. As far as i remember the reg entry shouldn't be required to use MapView.

How's the progress coming along, Gr3yHound?

It isn't ;/

A BTS or Warlord map is just the same when it comes to terrain etc. You can open it by
a) in the open dialog type *.* or *.<correct extension> to have the files displayed and then open as usual
b) rename

Grey, can you please at least release the latest version of MapView that you were working on, so we have some of the new features? Please? :)

I realize you are stuck, but I'll throw this out there in case it is ever an option- to fix it to be able to open map files even after they have been edited in worldedit

I must agree with shqype; and you never know, maybe someone may come along with the knowledge to help keep the momentum going

Hi, i've taken the last days to work on MapView again and it looks very good.
Especially the way i supply a gui now i finally legal (which always made me hesitate whenever i restarted working on it in the past).

I also have a system going which would allow the development of custom plugins. (a few of my toolbars are already realized as plugins)

I know i've let you guys down a lot in the past so i won't promise anything, but i want to share that i've picked up the work again and feel very motivated to bring this to a release.

Another thing that includes my current work is a API that will allow access to the ways i parse, edit and save scenarios in the exact same way MapView will.

Keep it up Gr3yHound! I know it can be sort of tough to give new life to a dusty old project, even when you really want to :o But I really hope you'll finish the new version someday soon

This is great news. I've been absent from the community for the most part recently, so stuff like this is sure to bring me back. Keep it up and let us know when the new version is available! :D

WOW!!!!!!
This is trully amazing :)
Can't wait for a release of new version! :)

I'll probably upload some usage/workflow movies tonight or tomorrow.

I'm just working on a copy paste thing i wan't to get going first.
A nice effect is that you can also save parts of maps just as work pieces and resuse them easily later. Like having ready to use cities and the areas arround them lying arround as files that can be easily dragged into new map creations in just a second and stuff. Hope that sounds useful.

Awsome :) Can't wait to see this new features :)

Here you can see some parts of the copy & paste mechanism.
It's shown how you can copy parts of other maps into your current project, as often as you want to.
Everything pasted is loaded into a new layer, so you don't actually change your current project by the pasting precedure. You just overlay it and keep the chance to move or delete this element later. Merging the layers is something that will require an extra step. ;D

Copy,Paste & Layer Stuff
Merging

And some Picture 2 Map things. It's not that great yet but it does the basic job already.

Create Maps from pictures

Wow

Creating maps from .jpgs is already great thing.

Maybe it places deserts in places taht should be filled with plains sometimes (wich can be fixed by hand very easily), but it's real great and helpful - the map is created like with magic wand.

I suppose it's basing on some color values for each terrain type?

Cool option also with copy paste and merging.
Good job :)

yep, i calculate the H,S,V values from the RGB i read from the picture. The hue (H) value is probably the best indicator for this. And of course, you can never know what kind of picture will be thrown into the algorythm. I guess the biggest value of this feature is to get the basic shape anyway. Changing the type is something that can be done really quick.

Hey Gr3yHound, when can we expect a download of the latest version of MapView?

I'm not where i wanted to be.
I didn't focus on Gamesettings, Players/Teams and stuff yet. What's working great is working on the actual map. So i guess the current version wouldn't be as it should be.

But nevertheless, i should really get some stuff online and get your backfeed.
I'll try to get some "beta" (hehe) online this week if you want to ;D

yes, we be wanting beta! ;)

Hopefully you'll get a new version up soon. I'm not sure what's left for you to release a completed build, but I hope that you can get to it. I'd like to convert a JPG to a map and then create my scenario from that.
