The NES Wiki - Get Wiki With It

Because I am cutting it down as each section is created. The Guide page will be just a set of links to the rest of it in the end.

Abaddon, Wiki-pages can be coded to have tables of contents for a reason!

EDIT: Tweaked the Guide page a bit, just to poke around with the Wiki. Oooh! I never knew the contents box was created automatically!

Fcuk you, I was only trying help.

Setting a few hours deadline to reply is riduculus, i've been busy

Now if someone is lost and tries to find out what "IC" means, or "EP" they draw a blank. Fantastic.

The whole point was breaking it up so people could find what the need to, not read reems of text, that already exhists in the stikied thread

Yeah, we've already got definition articles for like everything you defined. We don't need a whole page for a sentence when it already exists. Did you even bother to look around and see if any of that had already been covered? No, you took it and just broke it up into pages willy-nilly and unnecessarily.

So why when I type IC into the search, it comes back with nothing?

You could have at least asked somebody who knew if you didn't know how to format it instead of thinking you knew how.

I said I didnt know how, but was going to work it out. Considering noone uses the bloody thing I thought you would give me perhaps 24 hours to get to grips with it rather than deleting the lot immediatly

Yeah... and that's what a TOC is for. Or a scroll-wheel. Or a monitor resolution that doesn't suck. I'd rather do that than have to click a link to read all of 100 characters. The entire point of this exercise was to have a fluid, evolving version so we could unpin the sticky version and collectively modify it, not a logistical nightmare.

Well it seems we disagree as to how a Guide should be.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but how else but creating those pages can someone find out about a specific term?

If I come off as harsh, I'm sorry, but that was really just a dumb move, and it would've been entirely preventable if you had just posted here and asked what the best way to have done it would've been instead of thinking you knew best.

Or if instead of deleting the first bit of imput since ever, you gave me time to finish it.

I assume someone would look at a nes, and see the various acronims being thrown around and want to find out what it means.. so they bash "ep" into the wiki.. it should get a hit IMO.

What reason is there behind the drive to reduce the number of articles?

Anyway, your demenor has moved me to not bother with your wiki, i'll make my own guide elsewhere.

Symphony... Sometimes people don't like reading big things and prefer to just read small chunks of the information they need and only that... Unless it takes room on servers and costs too much, I think Abaddon has a point in his way, so why not have both?

If that is the case, why is the guide stikied at the top of this forum not sufficient?

Why bother with a wiki? Why not have it in ONE BIG POST. Thats easy enough to find right? Its not like people use a wiki to find specific information..

Unless it takes room on servers and costs too much.

The wiki sites are completly free, you can make one in seconds by simply registering its name.

Or, you could just resist deleting the pages I add?
They don't affect anything you have done.

An considering I added perhaps 20 pages, "tens of thousands" seems a might strong ;)

Because then anytime somebody wants to modify something to make it better, or change something, we have to call in Gelion, who's not always the easiest man in the world to reach, or petition a moderator.
Hey! I am here, I am active, I am groovy.

Give me something worth updating, or at least something you want to work on: changed structure, new terms, NES directory.
Some people have suggested changes - I welcome them. Most of those said the guide was complicated, but most of my confidence comes from people who have posted in the Guide thread and said it was useful. It is sufficient (though not perfefct obvisouly) the way it is.

I am not against wikiing the Guide so long as someone does it. I was against an unnecessary move that was done "for the sake of it" as far as I am concerned. If you can do something on the wiki - great, do it.

No, I want Symphony D. to be the administrator. I don't want tens of thousands of pages. Lord, no.

If you must must must have a definitions page, I don't see why you can't just have one page with a list of all the definitions. I don't know if we have one yet or not but I think that would make the most sense.

Or, you know, you could just have a list at the bottom of the guide.

How do you do those convenient redirects? You know, so that typing up "IC" would simply redirect to Guide|Glossary|IC (In-Character or In-Context).

Without a doubt, Symphony is simply heads-over-heels better for the job than Abaddon. No offense, but I'd personally be scared to look at it if I have to wade through tons of pages to get a little info.
