The NOTW Information Thread

You were a werewolf in NotWWs II IIRC!:)

edit Looking at the archive it says you were a surviving villager... Did you escape the village using a special mechanic (I remember there was one way to do that...)

Nope, I was the :):):):):):):) who brought down the Baron on the village: I stole his crop (I was the theif)

I think support votes are an important part of the game tbh. Secret Voices are mainly useless, but support votes are the only way to really show support for a player when you have reason to believe they are innocent but you don't have any significant suspect of your own.

All NOTWs vary the rules slightly, but IMO support votes are a fixture that should not be removed.

There was the suggestion that PMing ppl is too exclusive (rather than inclusive discussion in public debate) and leaves many innocents on the "outer ring". What are ppl's thoughts on restricting PMing?

Talking at night? What would be wrong with allowing this?

There is also the issue that ppl who do stuff at night leave a trail of evidence in the user CP of last activity seen on the forums. Perhaps players should set their profiles to invisible to stop this?

I was reading the discussion on how to stop last minute votes without potentially making the game boring (majority vote for lynching causes automatic lynch even if it's still 'morning' as such - also I think that timezone groups might be able to exploit this...). What about, as someone suggested, noone knows when night falls exactly - it happens around the same time but it exactly happens when I write the post. EDIT: I think DiamondEye said he'd do that...

Banning private communication is an interesting idea but I think it would spoil the fun for a lot of people and take away one of the features which seperates NOTW from traditional Mafia games. Still, it is potentially worth looking into.

I don't know about other people but I've never looked at last activity to see if players are doing anything at night. I think it's quite disappointing if players are resorting to that kind of meta-gaming.

I don't see why last minute votes are really a problem, not worth changing.

I would like to try complete public-only at some point here; I've done it elsewhere and find it a really fun way to play the game. But maybe not in NOTW. At the very least it would require selecting players carefully for those who are willing to play that way (lots of public posts) and know what it entails.

Partial restrictions? I don't know; depends what you're suggesting, maybe.

Nothing I can think of. It makes for a nice little break every few days, maybe. That's about the only benefit.

Very cheesy to try to catch people that way. But in any case most of us are around every day anyway; it's not likely to be very useful.

Last-minute votes have never been that big an issue. Basically, if you turn up five minutes before end of day to change the outcome, you're asking for trouble. Last-few-hours votes are a bit more problematic.

As long as there are no objections I'll try to get my NotW's sign up thread up this weekend (small chance of next weekend depending on how things go). The sign up post is fairly long, so I figure that it would be best to give everyone plenty of time to read through it. ;)

As a solution to chronic inactivity, would anyone be seriously opposed to GM's banning people that never participate from signing up to their games? A list could be compiled by the community of these ''players'' and posted in this thread for reference.

GM's of future NOTW's would be within their rights not to accept sign-ups from people on this list.

Inactivity can be a serious problem, particularly if they have important characters, if they are an enemy, or if the game is relatively small. And at the end of the day, them joining just prevents a more active player from taking part who might actually add something to the game.

I'm not suggesting that all people that don't post that often are put on this list, appearing inactive is a common strategy after all. This black list would be comprised only of people who have a history of signing up to games but not taking part either in public or private.

I think this is a good idea, as long as players have a chance of reconciling themselves. Say, if someone who is notoriously inactive promises to pull himself together, let him join in, although be ready to replace him if he proves to be inactive again.

you might attract pinman with that :D I never watched Atlantis myself but for my minds Stargate: Universe would be nice.

Each phase could represent a jump out of ftl. People vote for who gets sent on the mission to viable planets and for those that get ejected out of the airlock. :)

We had a Stargate mafia once. It was called Instinct and it was hosted by truckingpete, but it didn't get past the second day. Just died, and no-one really noticed.

NotW XXX? That's totally a multiple of ten! :run: Twenty quid says Frozen is getting rectally probed by ALIENZ before the year's out.

I'll take you up on that bet, if you sign up for it.:p
