The Number 23 - coincedence or not?

Of course coincidences happen all the time. IMO more spiritual people are more likely to focus in on some of these coincidences and attempt to assign meaning to them.

It doesn't mean anything aside from the fact that you are now actively seeking out the number 213.. and subconsciously as well.

all numbers may be random, but when they show up in a pattern, regarding similar phenomena...that, to me, might not be just a number. the language of the universe is math, and if 23 keeps coming in parallels that share an integral relationship, then it's something worth exploring further rather than dismissing out of hand.

i will defn. see that movie that's coming out - it looks like it could be a really great psycho thriller - ala jacob's ladder.

I do that with 714 as a running gag.

I keep seeing numbers like 9.99, 99.9, 499.9, 5999.9 but I can't recall where...

;)

Seriously though, some numbers seem to occur more often than others. But, just like other people have said, I think that's just a trick of the mind. It's 'tuned' to see those numbers.

It's possible you asnwered your question right there in your first post. If the house you grew up in had 213 as an address, then that could be a number you got used to recognizing and looking for as a kid. Then it stuck in your brain so you notice it and make a mental note whenever you see it.

We see numbers all around us, constantly. They only mean something to us when we think "hang on a minute, that number means something to me". I often notice my house number. We just glance over all the other hundreds/thousands of numbers that we see from day to day.

I would say that it's selective memory, but the fact is that it can become quite freaky...

Yeah, or simple self-fullfillment.

I'd guess he's so focused on it, he sees it everywhere and the selective memory causes him to discount or not value other experiences.

For example, MB, you probably wake up at 2:13 because you're so aware of the number.

Needlesstosay, nothing much to worry about.

Done and done. Perhaps I should keep a journal for a couple of months and log it. 157 it is, simple because you mentioned it at random.

Ok, folks, a one week update of these two numbers. In a single week, 213 appeared to me randomly at five different times.

1. Was playing WoW and a mob whacked me for 213 damage.
2. Opened a book I was reading at random to page 213.
3. Got a wrong number with a prefix of 213.
4. Last three numbers (not tenths) of my odometer rolled to 213 this week.
5. 20 minutes ago, my eyes flicked over and locked on the clock at 2:13 pm.

In the last week the number 157 appeared before me zero times. And I did try to associate it with 213 as much as possible. Often the thought of both numbers would pop into my head and I would look around and see no reference to either of them.

So, I was hoping that keeping track of it would explain the issue and show me that 213 meant no more to me than 157 did....but so far its simply convincing me otherwise.

At least now you're going to have two numbers in your head (157 being a bit less popular, I guess) :)

Any luck on seeing 'discordianism' elsewhere?

Nope...not a single reference to discord or discordianism anywhere.

i say, ignore the naysayers, MobBoss! continue your experiment - and focus on the OTHER number, not both, and let's see what happens...

I was born on the 23rd, living on a 23 Street number for much of childhood and was in homeroom #23 during one of the best years of my life (6th grade, when I was 11). I think I may have had locked #23 that same year. Twenty-three left me that year and I haven't heard much from it lately.
