I wonder if it is elsewhere or only Australia where this scenario is repeated ...
I guess I get karma points for loaning it to a friend until I save up cash for hardware upgrades

I think this is a great game.
I think this is a great game.Wow, I guess I was just really lucky. Didn't even know the game was being released, but while at my local Best Buy I decided to browse through the software for some reason on Oct 26th (I'm not a big gamer, so I usually just stick to the dvds & music). There it was sitting on the shelf, so I picked up a copy.

I got it from play.com today, I installed it but don't really have much time to play for the next two days. 
I got it last night and I am so excited. Don't you love that first time feeling when you play a new game (especially a new version of CIV)
When my wife saw the box she said "Oh NO!, I guess I wont be seeing you for some time"

Looks brill. I am only playing on the easiest level now to learn all the features Got it last night and started playing this morning. I'm in the classical era in my first settler game. I didn't finish the tutorial because I saved and loaded it and it told me I won a domination victory 
. I haven't played much yet, but what I like best about Civ4 so far is the main menu .

Against all reason, I picked up my copy yesterday. I do not buy a lot of games, but I figured I was going to buy this anyway, so why not buy it while I have the finances. But it feels a bit strange in a way to pay 400 DKK for something you know will make your life more complicated! I am in the middle of a lot of work on my latest film, so I am in no need of distractions!
The game came on a DVD along with a nice manual, and it looks and plays brilliantly on my system - 3,4 GHz, 1 GB ram, GeForce FX6600 video card.
I managed to sneak myself into playing just one game. Chieftain level, quick mode, playing as Persia (picked randomly). The game probably lasted well over 4 hours, but most of the time spent just scrolling around the map, figuring out where everything was and enjoying the beauty of the detalied graphics, the wonderful music and sound touches.
One thing which is quite nice is that the sound depends on the zoom level - on the globe view (which even my computer had to pull a few horses to run smoothly) you hear nothing but the empty buzz of outer space, on the medium levels your hear only the music, and zoomed-in you hear all the ambience and sound fx of people working, animals and ocean. Nice work!
Gameplay-wise, one other thing I noticed in particular, was that the AI didn't play as aggressively in my game as I'm used to from civ2. In earlier civ games, the AI would come at you for no reason, so you never knew when they were coming. In this game, you can actually trust the AI!
I won the game marginally with a time victory, but I do suppose the French (which were second, on a continent of their own), would have come after me (or I would have gone after them, if they were ahead), if I had played on a higher difficulty.
Definitely interesting. I look forward to having more time to dive into it!

I got it, last week. Next week I'm going on vacation - a real, no-responsibilities, between-two-jobs vacation - so I plan to play a bunch then and really sink my teeth into it. So far, though, I think it looks good. I loved CivIII, and I'm glad some of the most interesting aspects of it, like culture, are preserved and enhanced. And I'm intrigued by religion though I don't really understand it yet. I'm a peaceful builder type player - I wrote a strategy article on Diplomatic victory in CivIII - and I'll need some time to learn the tech tree and the best civics for my style of play.

Pre-ordered from play.com on October 20 for GBP 17.99 (EUR 26.54). Delivered today. Took a few days longer than getting it locally in the Netherlands, but it's about 40% cheaper and now at least I have the documentation in English. Installing as we speak.

They were blocking all other paths to other Civs, so I made best buds with them and no one declared war on me at all!

Pentium IV 1.6GHz, GeForce 3 TI200, 512MB. Performance is nearly flawless (that is, no artefacts other than a few wonder movie glitches). The game feels a little sluggish. I suppose that's to be expected on a system that hovers between minimum and recommended. So far so good. Maybe I should get myself a new gizmo after all.Mercade said:
