2)If humans evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys in abundance?

Same reason German is still around today even though English is descendant from various Germanic dialects.

Besides, humans did not evolve from monkeys — instead humans share a common ancestor with monkeys that was neither human nor monkey.

Wouldn't that make 'monkey' a periphyletic clade then? Since Old World monkeys are closer to apes than New World monkeys.

I mean, Old World monkeys and apes have a more recent common ancestor than Old World monkeys and New World monkeys. Thus if both Old World and New World monkeys are to be called "monkeys", apes must be too. Just like we are all reptiles.

Yep! We are descended from monkeys, and if your a crazy monophyletic purist like TLC then we are monkeys.

Look hard enough an were all just vessels for DNA.

Actually, it would make "monkey" a polyphyletic grade, since the last common ancestor of Recent monkeys would have been a non-monkey.

The formal name for the clade uniting New World monkeys, Old World monkeys, and apes (incl humans) is Anthropoidea. One might argue whether humans are "monkeys", but we certainly are anthropoids.

But, I mean, if New World monkeys are monkeys and Old World monkeys are monkeys, we would have to be monkeys if the word is to have any meaning?

No. Names of para- or polyphyletic taxa are still meaningful - the problem is that they're confusing and artificial.

Wonderful job Perfection, but can you out argue Time Cube ?

KOing creationism is one of Perfection's free services, arguing (for or against) Time Cube is not. If you'd like to hire Perfection do so please PM him for rates and conditions.

Thanks for choosing Perfection, and have a nice day.

It is a free service, yet I need to contact you for a quote on rates? LOL.

No offense, but I don't think I need your help. Creationism KO's itself, at least as a scientific theory, so there's really no work to do here.

He said KOing creationism is a free service. The rest is not. :)

You're obviously new at this CFC OT thing, aren't you? ;)

I just help it along.

That's like asking why you are still around when you have twice-removed cousins in abundance. You share a common ancestor with your cousins, but that doesn't mean only one of you should exist.
