Naaaah!!!!! Elijah was far better! You could see the dolphin wasn't taking its role seriously: It always screwed up its lines, and had a permanent grin on its face. Reportedly, there was also a lot of unprofessional conduct with groupies and unreasonable demands for tuna.

None other than Lee Ermey playing.... himself! (he was a marine drill sgt before Kubrik found him).

Right. I saw a special on the History Channel about Seargents and Drill Seargents in particular and they interviewed Ermey and he said his character wasn't too far off from how he acted himself (minus the getting shot).
