Is the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy a good source for all topics philosophy-wise?

Yeah, is it? Wikipedia (see other thread) has failed me.

You violated the command! :scan:

Question- what is good brain food before a final?, at around 7 30 in the morning (early for me)

Starch-based foods(Bread, Muffins, Bagels) or protein-rich foods(Eggs, Bacon, Sausages) will provide a good amount of energy and keep it high for a while, unlike sugar or caffeine which provide a large energy jump but then quickly sputter out.

(Think of protein like gasoline for your car, and sugar as the nitrous.)

Aside from that, anything vitamin-rich and potassium-rich(Bananas are a good choice) will also help, if eaten along with the above. Don't only eat a banana though, you also need energy form the above sources!

I hear its a good source. Not too sure about that, though.

Wiki is a good source for matters of factual science.

Where it (occasionally, and often only temporarily) goes awry in my opinion, is where people become opinionated in their writing. This means that any subject that is open to interpretation or which is controversial, is at risk of being full of BS.

Still, I have found some articles that are surprisingly well written by egos that were surprisingly well controlled under an obvious temptation to air flame.

Of course anyone with half a brain can tell the difference anyway, and even a trumped up article contains enough facts to piece together a reasonable rendition of what really happened.

However, some articles may seem perfectly fine, but are actually full with errors on dates. Do not trust wikipedia as much for history, or at least be wary if it is about more obscure events.

Atlas, try speaking with your mutual friends first. Confess to them that you're not sure about it and explain that you thing that carrying on will hurt her more.
When you finally do the deed they'll be prepared, and will look on you more kindly because they'll know your motives, and that you've been mulling it over for a while, rather than it being a sudden shock.

Does putting a banana into a paper bag with an apple really make it ripen faster? Will it work if you use a plastic bag instead of a paper bag? I'm trying it with a plastic bag but the banana doesn't seem to be ripening any faster.

There's a plant hormone (name escapes me, starts with an 'e') that is released when fruit ripen/rot that encourages neighboring fruit to ripen as well, though not sure if it'd work cross-species in your example.

I think your right. I've heard of this before, but I don't think its "bag specific," so I think a plastic bag would work just as well as paper, or any other container.

A lot of plants use ethylene for ripening, so it would work. I'd suggest a paper bag since ethylene might react with the plastic.

Yes, I have a question. Are there any weapons in the American arsenal or weapons being researched like the "Smart Pigs" in Tom Clancy's novel The Bear and the Dragon? What it does is it deploys hundreds of cluster munitions (essentially like little JDAMs) that home in on targets. In the novel, just a few of the weapons decimated two huge Chinese armored formations.

AGM-154 JSOW exists. A powered variant is being developed right now, but the munitions themselves have been extensively tested both in peacetime and combat conditions. (First deployment in combat was what, 1999?)

Question to non-Britainers:

How are the Universities of Warwick, Bristol, UCL, California, Wisconsin and Connecticut seen in your country? Held in high prestige? Not heard of?

YOU DECIDE

Although there is a little exclusivity, universities here tend to be seen as somewhat standardised and choosing one has a lot to do with what subjects they offer, and where you live. I wouldn't incline to judge them.

Warwick, Bristol, UCL - Don't know them.
Cal (I assume you mean UC Berkeley) - very liberal and elite
Wisconsin - Good school
Connecticut - basketball school

Do Europeans have to take a certain amount of years of Latin?

Asking that about "Europeans" is like asking "do brown primates arrange their hair?". :p There're too many kinds of primates to generalize.

I did take it for one year, which coincidentally was the year I skipped in highschool. My GF who's at a Philology Highschool studied it for 5 years.
(in other words, is in the 5th year of studying it which happens to be the last year of highschool)

My cousin who studied History took it for 3 years. It all depends really.

I didn't have to take any Latin at all. (I did some for a year but it was an extra-curricular thing and we didn't really get very far.)

Rossiya: University of Warwick is best because it is attended by me! :D Non-Britainers (nice term BTW) probably don't know how to pronounce 'Warwick' though.

University College London is probably held in reasonably high regard, although perhaps not as high as Lamebridge.

Is there a way to add a Christmas hat onto my avatar without photoshop or some other expensive image editing software? I only have paint.

Paint is all I used. Granted it's not very good and it's only transparent in the default skin...
