A hundred prisoners are each locked in a room with three pirates, one of whom will walk the plank in the morning. Each prisoner has 10 bottles of wine, one of which has been poisoned; and each pirate has 12 coins, one of which is counterfeit and weighs either more or less than a genuine coin. In the room is a single switch, which the prisoner may either leave as it is, or flip. Before being led into the rooms, the prisoners are all made to wear either a red hat or a blue hat; they can see all the other prisoners' hats, but not their own. Meanwhile, a six-digit prime number of monkeys multiply until their digits reverse, then all have to get across a river using a canoe that can hold at most two monkeys at a time. But half the monkeys always lie and the other half always tell the truth. Given that the Nth prisoner knows that one of the monkeys doesn't know that a pirate doesn't know the product of two numbers between 1 and 100 without knowing that the N+1th prisoner has flipped the switch in his room or not after having determined which bottle of wine was poisoned and what color his hat is, what is the solution to this puzzle?
Everyone gets drunk on the wine; hilarity ensures.

What normal mp3 player? ipod classic in pc world starts at 120 gig £175, ipod touch 32 gig at £282. Baby ipods are out because their screens are too small.

A MP3 player doesn't have to be an ipod. I'm sure your mother can handle the loss of street cred that comes with using a less hip, but much cheaper, brand.

I'd just hit a local electronics store and ask. If you can't find one with large buttons and display, there are definitely models for blind and low vision people that talk to the user, these might be an option for you.

What do you call a quotation at the beginning of a book (or a chapter in a book)? I know there's a specific term for it, but I've forgotten.

Thanks. :)

Do you consider these songs to be completely girly (yet still enjoyable):

Lyrics available on the right side.

This particular one I don't find quite as enjoyable, but damn is it girly.

Ignore the videos. Just listen.

I didn't care for any of them and didn't consider them "girly" at all. These seem quite a bit more "girly" (and quite listenable) to me.

What the hell is with Central European Time? Why do so many European countries use it when plenty of them are very far away from the time zone via the meridians, much less in Central Europe?

Got a problem. Have to replace a headlight assembly on my car. It's normally a 2-light deal. Problem is the last owner of the car had it rigged up as one of those 3-light, dual focus projectors, which I presume means the wires were already spliced to accommodate that. Is there an easy way for me to go back to 2-lights the way the manufacturer had it, without rewiring the car?

First thing being first have a look at the back of the headlight. It should be obvious what they have done by simply looking at the connectors.

If they replaced the connectors with something for the custom lights, you'll have to get some of the original type connectors and splice them back. That or just go with the current setup.

Thanks for the responses.

Had a curious thought about the turn in your low mpg vehicle for a high mpg one. Have there been any reports of semi-scamming of the government through this? I was thinking a simple one is buy a barely running clunker, get it titled and technically inspecting (I'm guessing $500 tops including the cost of the barely running vehicle), then turn it in for a $4500 credit on a new, or much better used car. That'd be quite a profit, no? :)

Think you have to have owned the car you're turning in for something like a year or more.

You're correct:

* Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date
* Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify
* Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements)
* Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in
* You don't need a voucher, dealers will apply a credit at purchase
* Program runs through Nov 1, 2009 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
* The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealer disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.

If all the gas giants in the solar system were combined into one, would there be enough material to form a star?

No. The rest of the mass of the solar system is tiny compared to the sun. I can't find hard numbers, but it seems the smallest burning star, a brown dwarf, is some 14 times the size of Jupiter.

Composition Of The Solar System
The Sun contains 99.85% of all the matter in the Solar System. The planets, which condensed out of the same disk of material that formed the Sun, contain only 0.135% of the mass of the solar system. Jupiter contains more than twice the matter of all the other planets combined. Satellites of the planets, comets, asteroids, meteoroids, and the interplanetary medium constitute the remaining 0.015%. The following table is a list of the mass distribution within our Solar System.

* Sun: 99.85%
* Planets: 0.135%
* Comets: 0.01% ?
* Satellites: 0.00005%
* Minor Planets: 0.0000002% ?
* Meteoroids: 0.0000001% ?
* Interplanetary Medium: 0.0000001% ?
