Snaproll had signed up already without knowing what to expect, so I'd like to have a confirmation from him if he really would like to play this...uh...rather unusual game. ;)

Sure, I'm in!

I'd like to sign up. That sounds like a fun variant.

Have you played Desert War scenario? Artillery is the main attacking unit for some civs there. (Unlike infantry, it can take city raider.)

If there's still room I'd quite like to get involved ... although I've not played at Monarch yet.

I'm playing a Large Prince game at the moment and have been using Artillery extensively in a recent war and have been impressed with how powerful it can be!

Hi,

RB13 roster:
Kylearan
Sharog
Snaproll
xenikos
Zeviz
Dreylin

Perfect roster: Some new faces mixed with some known ones. :)

I'll start this tomorrow most probably. Any preferences for leader choice and game speed? As far as I know, the aggressive trait won't benefit siege weapons, so while still useful that trait is not the no-brainer as it would have been in normal military games. And I still don't know exactly what the potential problem with Epic game speed is...

Zeviz: No, I haven't played any scenario yet, no time. :( But it sounds interesting...

I'm a bit unsure about number of continents though. I'd set it to 'random' if only I could be sure we're not alone on our landmass...

You can't be 100% certain not to be alone even if you choose two continents. (There's one template that might put seven on a near-pangaea and one on the second, small continent.)

Go with Random, would be my advice. Even if you are alone (unlikely, but possible), in many cases there may be an island chain that creates a coastal water crossing to another continent. Not knowing how many continents are out there will enliven the gameplay.

Good point, I had forgotten that artillery don't get the free combatI bonus. Industrious thus might be worth more to us than cheaper barracks. I'd suggest Bismarck, if just because I haven't seen many people playing as the germans in SGs/RB events.

If we went on epic speed, the difference would be the cost of military units vis-a-vis buildings is cheaper than on normal. Which I'd be fine with.

Hey cool! :) Very happy to be onboard with you guys ... and also happy to be well down the order so there'll be an established strategy & lots of advice to help me not screw it all up!

No preferences here for Leader or speed, but I also haven't played with the Germans yet, so that would be interesting.

Looking forward to it.

Epic speed would be easier than normal speed, which might be fine for this variant. It would certainly give us more of a chance to make war in each era. As far as leaders go, I don't really mind, although there certainly seem to be some leaders that are underutilized. Bismark seems like a good choice to me.

Edit: I am assuming that barrage tanks (panzers) are also off limits?

Hi guys.

I figured I might as well sign up here and such, to try and get in some SG's. I actually had an idea for one the other day.

The Sentimentalists

The Variant? Any unit that wins a battle may not be upgraded or disbanded. We like our victorious units, and have an obsession with the past.

While not exceptionally difficult, it would provide a nice twist; for what I've seen of RB (which isn't too much, I discovered Civ Fanatics and RB about a month ago, and have been lurking for a while), this is the kind of variant stuff--dare I say it?-- We're (oh, it feels so good) into.

Other changes and civ suggestions are more than welcome; since this would be my first ever SG, I'm not quite sure if captaining it would be appropriate (considering my lack of experience)... Just thought that I'd say hello, and throw this out there.

That sounds like an interesting idea for a lightweight variant. Have you had any thoughts on level? I'd be interested if it was Prince, but I doubt I'm up to Monarch yet.

Maintenance costs might be a problem. And with that variant, you could still get rid of them by sending them on suicide attacks.

@veovim

I'm not sure on the level... it'd depend on who would want to play.

@Mike

It's true what they say, great minds think alike ;)

I've started RB13 - Collateral Carnage. I thought Bismarck was a good idea, as I haven't played him yet as well, so Bismarck it is.

At first I thought RB13 would be a lucky number, but then I had to throw away the first 6(!) starts the game generated, as they all put us alone on an isolated landmass! Normally I'd like to play the first start that I get, but not with these variant rules... well, and this 7th start could get quite interesting as well. :hammer:

Yes, as they would turn modern warfare too much into "normal" warfare in my opinion.

In RB10, the Elitist Hegemony, I've got one guy disappeared completely, and another on auto-skip indefinitely.

I need two alternates, with an option to be on the permanent roster. Anyone up for Spanish Conquest, and taking of workers?

The sentimentalists idea doesn't seem to be getting much support, so I'd like to sign up here, if you'll have me.

When the next patch is out, I intend to start a LARGE MAP Always War game on Prince, Epic Speed. Looking for five regulars (including me) and three alternates, with anybody who played Civ3 AW games with me getting "go to the head of the line" treatment. (Seniority hath its privileges!) Also, a military win on Monarch or better is strongly recommended.

well as rb 11 comes TUMBLING DOWN :D ... I'd be honored to have you throw :smoke: comments at me in an SG sirian.

Not an old civ3 hand as that game really made be go back to moo. If I'm not a regular just skip me!

oh and make sure it's possible to raze towns lol.

Working on my report technique with luv muf and pestering my artist friends that understand photoshop...

Liq now knows who to make an opaque city radius using photoshop... FEAR:)

Thanks for getting new blood into rb10 kipper, game has stalled.
oh wait it's my turn up now???? hehe had to post rb-11's report.. fun read if you like endless combat results.

Cheers!
