The Rights of Men

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say.

A wikipedia link i know but it's probably more succinct then i could be:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_gaze

"The male gaze is a concept coined by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey. It refers to the way visual arts are structured around a masculine viewer. It describes the tendency in visual culture to depict the world and women from a masculine point of view and in terms of men's attitudes."

I don't really see how anyone can 'admit', tacitly or otherwise something so blindingly obvious that men and women check each other out. What there is no need to accept however is the inane suggestion that men looking at women is part of a universal system of oppression. Hence the hint of satire.

Women are far more likely to comment on the appearance and dress of other women than men in my experience. And my girlfriends by the way, i've just checked.

That's a pretty bad misreading of what the male gaze is Brennan, it's more to do with media than "checking one another out".

I suggest you read what I posted again, with the assumption that you got the wrong end of the stick rather than me.

Art and commercials are catered to their audiences, if they're primarily consumed by males they will have imagery that pleases males and if they're primarily consumed by females they will have imagery that pleases females.

That's why this fat superhero aimed at feminists still has a boyfriend that looks like a bodybuilder.

Studies show most online bullying is conducted by women as I recall... remember the banknote case?
That's actually a topic where I've seen studies that pretty much came to any possible conclusion, both, in terms of men + women being the perpetrators and the victims. Hardly surprising given that that kind of study is always done by asking people questions and self-reporting, not by actually looking at the facts. I think at this point it is very hard to tell what is the truth behind the numbers.

I honestly don't even understand anymore what this all is about.

It's a living, breathing example of how such threads can't exist on this forum.

Very true, women are far more obsessed with the way other women look then men are. Look at men vs women magazines, in women's magazines almost every article is about how to look a certain way, and men's magazines 90% of articles are about non related subjects and then 10% is pictures of hot chicks.

I don't think I've seen more than a post or two about actual men's issues in this thread. Quite abyssal.
I tried, but apparently the biggest male issue, at least based on the comments of this thread, is self hatred. And most of those males who feel that way will never talk about it in a million years. They'd rather take blame and throw other men under the bus than take a cold hard look at their own masculinity and insecurity. It's a new, and very strange, wave of machismo.

Do you mean you believe self hatred is the biggest issue? What are you precisely getting at?

Men suck, men can't have issues, men rule everything & we should simply listen to feminists for what men are supposed to be. By a male poster who's named himself useless.

Not sure where you got this idea that i hate men.

This. Predictably we are mostly talking about feminism.

TBH, I don't quite get that impression off of you, but I am unsure of your stance on men's issues. Do you believe they exist? If so, what causes them? Most of your posts have been about feminists and feminism. While these are worthy topics of debates, they do nothing to clarify your position on what the original topic of the thread was to be.

My hopes for this thread have dwindled. Part of it my fault I suppose. My OP should have been meatier (and probably not beginning with the concept of male privilege) to sustain a better discussion. By the end, if 10% of the posts were good serious posts on men's issues, then I wouldn't consider this thread a waste.

The question is who is constantly pushing the discussion in that direction.

I'm sure one day we will find the answer to that.

And yes, i do believe there are rights that men can and could have, but i don't buy into this belief that they are somehow downtrodden wholescale by women.
