Shafer had said you had to play the game in a very specific way for the SSU to be buildable. Doesn't compute.

..Conspiracy. Surely it has to do with molecrabs.

Maybe , half way through development, they decided to make it a regular unit instead of a "Easter Egg".

In any case it doesn't bother me... Looks like the game will have enough, and interesting, achievements and other stuff to keep me entertained for a long time.

I never cared much about the secret unit thing and don't think the GDR warrants some of the panic people are expressing, so this announcement isn't a big deal to me, other than it's another 2K smackdown of sorts.

First we find out the demo comes out on release day (for some of us) and now this? 2K likes to get your hopes up then stomp on you. So mean.

My guess is the circumstances are when an individual reaches a really high tech point, has uranium, and has the sufficient production to actually build the unit. It's possible it was going to be implemented differently (although my guess is the only difference would have been making it buildable after you got Future Tech, so it could still stay a secret since most people don't really bother researching future tech).

Actually, no. It was one of the note-worthy missing City-States for me. Which, to me suggests they were either leaving it out in case they added it as a Civ or they were leaving it out for the same reason it was left out every other Civ game.

But Jerusalem, Carthage, Ashur, Ur are all examples that would have struck me as obvious City-States and are not. The last two will possibly be incorporated into Babylon. I'm not sure about the former (there were also no Madrid, Cuzco, etc).
