Well, you're wrong.
Going to play tonight -- say, Perfection, have you ever played with SimCity 3000 or SimCity 4? I started with SimCity 2K...boy, was I surprised to find out you could actually grow a city if you paid attention to the rules and didn't just SCURK everything.

Time for Isabella and Ferd to go to sales boot camp, but first --
The lot has gotten a lot more crowded since Wilhelm opened it.
The first order of business is to change the season to spring, to get rid of all this snow.
While Isabella studies her witchery, Ferd works the gate -- stepping into that mood machine from time to time as needed.
While he's resting, Isabella takes over.
Both get their gold sales badges, and Isabella becomes an accomplished witch.
Victoria brings this woman home EVERY DAY.
...well, he's expressing himself at least.
One of the most useful spells is Remides Simae, which takes care of illnesses.
Every day.
Meadow is close to completing this career.
Even though they're teens now, Ferd and Isabella have a lot of skilling to do.
Harrumph. By rights, all land in Nehru Hills is the property of the Nehru Clan. There's no such thing as trespassing for a Nehru!
Ta-daaaa. She only works a few days a week, so in spite of that daily take-home, this isn't a lucrative career, Sims2-wise.

One of the later expansions added the option to "Paint Custom Painting", which allows the Sim to choose to paint a picture you have in "Documents / EA Games / The Sims 2 / Paintings". That's how Tatiana did that Audrey Hepburn trilogy, all the various portraits of world leaders (using Civ4 and Civ5 leaderheads!), and so on. This thread has been littered with custom paintings ,actually -- a portrait of Civ3 early on, SimCity 2000 just in the last update...

Afraid I don't know. I installed the later expansions (OFB through to Apartment Life) all around the same time. YahooAnswers suggests the custom painting option was introduced with Pets.
