Take a look around you at the World you've loved so well
And bid the Ageing Empire of Man a last farewell
It may not sound like Heaven but at least it isn't Hell
It's a Brave New World
With just a handful of men
We'll start... We'll start all over again!

The Spirit of Man

Part 2:
Brave New World

This 25th June We'll start all over again!

This thread is here for the purpose of assigning nations and what not. All people who might not want to rejoin and those wanting to fill in one of the many slots available. Since none of the stats for nations have been put down yet you can be assured that no one will be at too great a disadvantage.
If you could also do a post detailing your nation that would be good. Those who participated in the last thread can just copy paste from there over to here.

Here is a list of nations, each has an assigned faction (That can be changed if you want) and some nations are given a bit of information. Nations that were played last time are reserved for their previous players. Also just a note - the Great and Secondary powers thing shouldn't be considered as nations with better starts. Its about their comparative influence, stability, prestige, wealth and the like.

Great Powers:
The Icelandic Empire, Mosher
- Monarchist
Antipapal States (AA) - Monarchist
The Kingdom of Germany, Tyo - Monarchist
Birmingham Trade League - Republican, World's largest Empire. Considers itself successor state to the United Kingdom which broke up the the 1850s into the Northern Trade Federation, Birmingham Trade League and Celtic union. The Northern Trade Federation was effectively destroyed in the Martian Invasion along with the city of London.
Kingdom of Wallachia, Kinich
- Monarchist
France - Republican
A United Solution - Solutionists, the first solution to be founded was that in North America. It remains the most economically powerful area of the world and poses a threat to all its American neighbours. Was formed during the collapse of the USA in the 1890s.

Secondary Powers:
The United Empire of the Northwest - Monarchist
The Kingdom of The Two Sicilies, Christos - Monarchist

Russia - Monarchist, Broken and battered after the Martian invasion the majority of Russia was provisionally under the protection of the Wallachian guard after their famous march on Moscow. however in recent years the Russian government regain enough authority to shake off the protectors which soured relationships between the two nations and caused Wallachia to back the Kievan Republic in its war for independance. Russia is currently undergoing a civil war between the Loyalist faction and the Communist rebellion. They are also trying to fend of the Kievan Revolt.
Spain - Communist, fought a civil war against the Nationalists and later against the New Roman Empire. Was backed by Germany.
The Army of Asia - Monarchist, aggressive empire controlling much of Indochina through a strong military and robust newly industrialised economy
Quebec - Communist, under constant threat from its solutionist neighbour to the south and also under pressures from the UAN. Thies to maintain friendships with the CSA and CPR.
Brazil - Monarchist, main backer of the Paraguayan and Chilean Provisional Governments.

Minor Powers:
Austria - Republican
Bavaria - Republican, one of the fractured states of the ECHN.
Rhine - Republican, one of the fractured states of the ECHN.
Belgium - Monarchist, famous for its naval actions during the Martian war
Sweden - Monarchist
Poland - Solutionist
Celtic League - Communist, Nation formed after the fracturing of the United Kingdom. During the Martian war much of its territory came under the occupation of Iceland. Icelandic forces have yet to withdraw.

Nation Name: People's Republic of the Caribbean
Capital: Port Au-Prince
Government: One-Party Socialist State
History: The wellspring of fervent revolt that lead to the creation of the new CSA also led to the creation of the PRC. Haiti, the most successful slave revolt in history, had been left with a large free black population still in resistance against many of the colonial powers of the time. However, Haiti had earned its freedom with blood and fire. However, the economy took a turn for the worst and the Martians invaded. The Caribbean had largely been spared the wrath of the Martians, but it wasn't spared the revolutions that wracked North America. The People's Liberation Army of Haiti valiantly liberated Haiti from corrupt governorship and rapidly exported the revolution across the Caribbean to the West Indies and Cuba.

But unlike their neighbor to the north, the PRC doesn't believe in socialism in one state. The people's revolution must expand.

Social and Economic Policies: Harsh social and economic policies that were geared toward the rapid industrialization of the Caribbean to turn it into a modern industrial state. Socially, the country enforces conformity and unity, suppressing dissent with its pervasive secret police.
Internal Politics: There are still sore feelings between the predominately black population and the former influential minority white population. Some whites still resist cooperation with the government. The government's clampdown on religion, including native religions and twists on Christianity, has also resulted in grumbling along some of the lower class. On the front, the Caribbean People's Congress reflects unity and consensus. In the backroom, there are many disagreements. Corruption is a recent concern as well.

Meanwhile, an influential faction in the party is making calls to export the revolution back "home" to Africa and into Europe. There is another faction demanding the state focus at home first, allying with the CSA and to export the religion at home. Both factions contain their white adherents, but both disagree on the next step. Right now, these two factions and a slew of other minor factions make up the backroom scene. The leader of the country is in between the two major camps.

Traits: How was Breakfast this Morning? – There’s a saying doing the rounds in the PRC that you can’t even eat your breakfast without the AFCR noting down exactly what you had and storing it on record. The amount of truth in the saying is astounding. The AFCR is the greatest intelligence gathering operation in the world, it is brutally efficient and to its operatives no information is unreachable. Espionage investment is three times as effective as normal.

The Revolution – The PRC is founded on ideals of expanding the revolution; they are part of its core ideology, indoctrinated into its people and shoved down the throats of any foreign dignitaries. The people are likely to get a bit uppity if the government isn’t doing that and for that matter, so might the AFCR.

Are we free to change our country's government and system entirely?

Rather we didn't have that. But if any of you greatly feel the need to then I'm not going to stand in the way of your enjoyment of the game.

'Bout time I got back into IOT.

I'll take Peru-Bolivia.

I'll confirm my return as Germany and stuff

I'm still in

Foreign Policy: Pragmatism (Humans), Genocidal (Martians)
Leader: Queen Camelia Vladislava Driconia
Persons of Interest:
Spoiler :
  • Queen Camelia Vladislava Driconia- The bastard daughter of King Victor Vlad Driconia & a Russian Refugee, she became the heir of the Kingdom of Wallachia after the Martians harvested the King's other children. She inherited her father’s patriotism & love of science- though thankfully not his madness. She makes up for that, however, with a cruelty streak that rivals that of her famed ancestor. When not stirring up nationalist sentiment, fighting wars, or interrogating prisoners, she enjoys playing the Organ in Bran Castle & attending the theater in Sofia.
  • Dr. Dragomir Dolphus- The product of an affair between Dr. Franz Frinkanstin & a German spy, he discovered his aptitude for science at an early age, and today Dr. Dolphus is Wallachia's premier researcher & Martian Expert.
  • Kyrillos Lysias- The Grand Admiral of the Wallachian Navy, Kyrillos was born in Argos in 1861. He came from a family of merchants & businessmen, and when he was seven the family relocated to the City of Tulcea in Wallachia. He grew to love his adopted homeland, and at the age of 19 he joined the Navy. Working his way up the ranks, he became an Admiral in 1896, and became the Grand Admiral of Wallachia after the death of the previous Grand Admiral, Ivan, in a naval skirmish in the Martian controlled Aegean.
  • Igorek Arseni- The Grand Marshall of the Wallachian Army, Igorek was born in Petrovsk, Russia in 1856. He joined the Russian Army at age 23, but after he was convicted of selling Russian weapons to criminal elements in Moscow at the age of 29, he defected to Wallachia. He later led Wallachian troops in the Moscow campaigns against the Martians, after which he was promoted to the rank of Grand Marshall.
National Animal: Lynx
Internal Politics:
Spoiler :
  • Wallachian Guard (Monarchists)- These are the citizens who remember the fight Wallachia gave the Martians the first time around, and are itching for a rematch. Tend to support the Queen & any actions that undermine the Martians & strengthen the Kingdom of Wallachia.
  • Sons of Europe (Republicans)- Composed of Refugees & descendants of Refugees who fled to Wallachia following her successes in the first Martian Invasion, they don't look on the invasion with Rose-Colored glasses as the Wallachian Guard does. Tend to support democratization & actions that strengthen Europe as a whole.
  • Patriotic Communist Romanian Laborer’s Party (Communists)- Ultra-Nationalist Radicals who believe Wallachia's fight against the Martians marks them as superior to those who fell to the alien invaders; they have a healthy respect for the Germans & the Italians due to the successes of the Second Reich & the Antipapal States, but other than that, their only redeeming quality is that they hate the Martians even more than the Queen & the Wallachian Guard do. Bloody rivalry with the Martian Apologists.
  • Martian Apologists (Solutionists?)- Crackpots who are convinced that, by playing nice with the Martians, Wallachia can avoid a second invasion entirely. Hate the Queen & the government in general, they are the smallest Faction, who both look down upon & are looked down upon by the other major political players in Wallachia. Bloody rivalry with the Patriotic Communist Romanian Laborer’s Party. Also Libertarian.
Traits: One of the following:
  • Anti-Martian Tactics
  • Artillery Tradition
  • Scientific Powerhouse
History:
Spoiler :
During the first Martian Invasion, Wallachia held her own quite nicely and even made significant gains; while other nations struggled to hold onto what was theirs, Wallachia pushed north, liberating a swathe of Polish lands & southern Courland; drunk off of his success, the reigning King, Victor Vlad Driconia, looked upon Russia- divided between the forces of the Cowardly Tsar, the Unorganized Peasants, & the Invading Martians- and saw the chance to earn his place in the history books by doing what no one had been able to do in hundreds of years: march into the heart of Russia & hold the city of Moscow. Appointing the defector Igorek Arseni to lead his men, the Wallachian Army crossed the border into Martian-occupied Russia, and initially met with success. The famed Wallachian Artillery cut down tripod after tripod, and after a grueling campaign, the King stood at the gates of Moscow, ready to claim his place among the great leaders of man.

That was when things started to go downhill; for as Victor learned the hard way, taking Moscow & holding Moscow are two very different things. The peasants of Russia, whom he had thought would welcome the Wallachian troops as liberators, instead saw them as invaders, as no better than the Martian Menace. Constant guerilla strikes sapped both supplies & morale, and eventually the strain of having to fight off the forces of not only the Martians, but the Russian Peasants & an Irredentist Tsar, forced the Wallachians to retreat. The Martians, seeing their chance to strike a blow against a particularly resilient foe, ambushed the Wallachian Army near the city of Kraków; in what would come to be known as the Martian Retribution, a full third of the retreating Army was wiped out in the battle, with a further tenth missing in action. And though the forces of Igorek Arseni managed to take out their fair share of Martians, the battle effectively took Wallachia out of the War. The army limped back home, broken & defeated, but as the old saying goes, the only thing that travels faster than light is bad news, and the army arrived in Bran to find the city guards locked in furious battle with fanatical rebels. The rebels were members of a new faction, the Martian Apologists, who were convinced that Wallachia’s stubborn resistance was only provoking the Martians, and that if we would simply let the Martians go about their business, they would spare us.

It soon became apparent that Transylvania was the primary stronghold of the Martian Apologists. In a brutal civil war, brother killed brother & father killed son as the two sides engaged in a fierce struggle to determine the future of Wallachia. After the death of Victor & the coronation of Camelia, the rebels sought a quick end to the war by striking at the Capital, Bran; the Second Battle of Bran would prove to be the first decisive victory in the war, as the rebels suffered a crushing defeat, and the war was formally declared won a year later, when the main rebel force was crushed by the Wallachian Army & the Bulgarian Militia during the third battle of Sofia. Battered & bruised, the nation went about rebuilding, and now Wallachia is recognized as one of the Great Powers of the World.

The Provisional Government of Turkey

BG8N8LU.png

Capital: Ankara
Government: Provisional Government. Effectively a military dictatorship until people sort out things.
History: During the start of the Martian Invasion the Ottoman Empire was spared the brunt of the assault. For the first several months conflict was contained to small engagements on the borders in Sinai and Bulgaria. It wasn't until January of 1899 did the Ottomans truly feel the effects of the war. The Sultan at the time heard the news about the fighting in Russia and England and when he compared it to the Ottoman's own fighting, he thought that the other European powers's armies were weak, and that the Ottomans were not only surviving, but winning. Supplied with this false information, the Sultan took out his army for Bulgaria, assuming he would defeat on the Martians on the battlefield despite the numerous objections of high ranking military advisers. This ended as many expected, with the total defeat of the Sultan's forces. The Sultan himself barely escaped, and fled from death back to Istanbul. Two weeks later Istanbul itself was under attack.

The Sultan could not escape death this time, as he and most of the city's inhabitants fell to the Martian Invaders. The throne was left to his 4-year-old son in Ankara, and from that point on the Ottoman's participation in the Invasion resembled most of the world's. When the invincible forces of the Martian Invaders fell not to a gun, but a germ, the people of the Ottoman Empire along with the rest of the world breathed a sigh of relief. They had survived.

However, this was not the end of the troubles in the Ottoman Empire. A now five-year-old sultan ruled over a destroyed land while many of his subjects believing the actions of his father resulted in this. For now the true power was held in the Ottoman military, and its head the radical Süleyman Teke. Süleyman had long held views against the government of the Ottoman Empire. It wasn't until 1902 that these views actually resulted in anything. Süleyman was a very charismatic and influential man in the Ottoman military and because of this he and his supporters issued a public denouncement of the young Sultan, whom the people already hated. Two months later Süleyman marched on Ankara and overthrew the Sultan and declared the Provisional Government of Turkey.

This however is where the radical Süleyman's actions in the modern Turkish state ends, as he was assassinated not a month later by a nationalist supporting the monarchy. With their leadership lost, the military suspended the elections promised on the foundation of the Provisional Government in an effort to figure out what they will do. Since then many prominent Turkish people have formed various organizations, each with their own demands to the government. Many people fear if the military does not decide on something soon, a war will break out over this.

Social and Economic Policies: The military government has issued a declaration supporting the industrialization of Turkey, and with a capitalist economy. As for social, it has favoured nationalistic types of laws.

Internal Politics:

  • Turkish People for Democracy: Easily the largest group in Turkey, but not a very united one. Can be divided into three main groups, with the only unifying factor being their want for democracy.
    • Young Turks: Favour a secular, yet nationalist form of government. Also favours the industrialization of the Turkish state.
    • Reformists: Favour the reformation of the Turkish government to resemble a European style of government.
    • Nationalists: Favour a strong, united Turkish government following Islamic law.

  • Monarchists: The smallest group in Turkey, but not by much, the monarchist favour the re-establishment of the sultanate putting the couped Sultan back in power.

  • Communist Party of Turkey: True to their name, the Communist Party is a communist organization mainly supported by farmers in rural areas of Turkey. They do not have much more support than the monarchists.

Would you mind labeling the map?

In any case, I'd like to reserve the Birmingham Trade League (though I'd like a bit more information in general).

Not going to take Mexico again?

But yeah, its fine.

Oh, didn't see Mexico for some reason. I will take it, sorry about that.

Edit:

Estados Unidos Mexicanos
United Mexican States
images

Capital: Mexico City
Government: Presidential dictatorship
President: Porfirio Díaz
Social and Economic Policies:
Porfirio’s Mexico is a social paradox. Any form of political dissent is swiftly and severely crushed. Any semblance of democracy has long been removed, after elections were suspended during the Martian Invasion. High government positions are given to close friends and key allies who support Porfirio’s regime. The media and court system are both controlled by the government. However, in his attempts to secure power, an odd form of social freedom has developed. In order to maintain his control, Porfirio was forced to balance the interests of several major factions. The Church was neither sheltered nor attacked by Porfirio. Similarly, the indigenous peoples were left largely to their own devices. The wealth and holding of the country’s elite citizens were left largely untouched. In most cases, the daily lives of most Mexicans were left unregulated.

The economy is heavily regulated and maintained by the government. This was born partially out of necessity, as many mines and other infrastructure fell into disrepair when foreign backers pull their investments. Many important industries (primarily the mining and agricultural industries) were nationalized and placed under government control. This has partially prevented a complete collapse of the Mexican economy, though severe cutbacks and shortages are still being felt even today. However, with the global stabilizing, there is talk of reopening the market to foreign investors.
Internal Politics:
The best description that can be applied to Porfirio's Mexico is that it is highly centralized. Through various methods, Porfirio had managed to consolidate all power in Mexico at the federal level, effectively removing all local authority and autonomy. All major decisions go through the President, and all leaders in the Mexican government, at all levels, answer directly to him.

Major Factions:
Faction Name | Brief synopsis | Ideology | Major Power Base | Overall Support
Los Nacionalistas | Supports the expansion of Mexican influence into Latin America; Pro-Military; Anti-Socialist | Right-wing | Military, Elites, Government | Very High
Aislacionistas | Supports isolation from world affairs; Focus on economic and social growth | Center | Clergy; Middle Class; Mestizos | Moderate
Ejército Revolucionario del Pueblo | Supports the overthrow of Porfirio and the establishment of a socialist government; Economic and racial equality; Agrarianism | Syndicalist | Peasantry; Indigenous peoples | Very low
Ejército Constitucional | Supports a return to pre-Porfirio federalism | Center-Right | Urban population | Low

History:
Spoiler :
- February 1899: Small Martian forces land at Veracruz, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. Mexican forces are overwhelmed and pushed out to northwest and southeast.
- April 16, 1899: members of the Ejército Popular de Liberación (a socialist revolutionary group) attempt to overthrow Díaz. Díaz is able to flee the city, and the ensuing fighting between socialist and federal forces allows the Martians to seize the city.
- May 1899-January 1900: Díaz mobilizes the resources he has to fight the Martians. Assets are seized and redirected towards the war, and the size of the military is increased. Díaz also takes the opportunity to strengthen his position by silencing dissidents “for the good of the nation”.
- January 16, 1899: The Mexican Army scores it first victory against the Martians at the Battle of Delicias. Preparations begin for a major offensive.
- April 27, 1900: The Mexican Army launches a major spring offensive against the Martians. Forces move in from the northwest and the southeast in a joint operation. Officers are instructed to eliminate any socialist forces along the way.
- July 19, 1900: Mexico City is retaken by the Army. Díaz himself personally leads the troops into the shattered capital.
- September 8, 1900: The last Martian forces in Mexico are defeated at Veracruz.
- April 19, 1903: Fearful of the Syndicate takeover of the Confederate States of America, Texas governor Jonathon Daniels sends a proposal to Díaz; in exchange for Mexican intervention against the Syndicalists, Daniels will re-incorporate Texas into Mexico as a semi-autonomous state. After some negotiation, Díaz agrees, with an added caveat that certain border lands be sold back to Mexico.
- May 6, 1903: The first Mexican troops cross the Rio Grande into Texas. Mexican and Texan loyalists battle Syndicalist forces.
- November 3, 1903: The last Syndicalist forces in Texas are driven out at the Battle of Texarkana. One week later, Texas formally joins Mexico with the signing of the Treaty of Austin.
- February 1904: A small revolt against the Mexican and Texan governments is put down by Mexican troops.
- March-August 1904: Mexico invades and annexes the Arizona and New Mexico territories.
- January 4, 1905: A border incident leads to war with the Second Californian Republic.
- April 14, 1905: The Treaty of Flagstaff is signed between Mexico and the Council of Nations (a coalition of Native American tribes in the southwest). The treaty grants greater autonomy to the Native tribes, including greater freedom of movement and access to a limited militia.
- February 27, 1906: The Treaty of Berkeley ends the Mexican-Californian War. Nevada and southern California up to San Francisco are annexed directly into Mexico, with northern California being incorporated in as a protectorate.
- July 13, 1907: The Republic of Deseret joins the United States of Mexico as a client state. Due to the fact that Deseret approached Mexico, and not the other way around, the Republic was able to retain many of its right and freedoms.
- January 19, 1908: The Territorial Resettlement Act is passed. The act grants newly acquired land and jobs in the new territories to any Mexican citizens who will resettle there. The act also provides land for members of the republic of Texas, enticing many of the black populace to leave for Arizona and New Mexico.
- October-August, 1910: After Syndicalists overturn the Republic of Colorado and install and new government, Mexico invades the region, in the name of “restoring order”. After a long and brutal campaign, the syndicalist republic is dissolved, and the territory is annexed directly into the United Mexican States.

Traits:
The Díaz Regime – Through a combination of government control and social liberties President Díaz has managed to maintain an almost uncontested grip over Mexico’s politics. There is little support of this opposition parties. Investment to reduce Revolt Risk is twice as effective. Also the negative effects of revolt risk are less likely to be felt.
Economically Hard Times – Unlike many other countries Mexico has not yet felt the post Martian economic boom; it still suffers from high unemployment, infrastructure in disrepair and a weak service sector. New factories costs 3 rather than 2 IC.

Confederate Syndicates of America
All power to the syndicates!

History:
The Union was torn asunder in the War Between the States, as the superior fighting spirit of the southerners proved too much for the Union to hold. The success of Robert E. Lee's Maryland Campaign led to an invasion of Pennsylvania, resulting in the breaking of Union morale. With victory secured, the Confederate States of America's independence was recognized, and the South florished.

However, the foundations upon which the Confederacy had been built on were rotting. The advent of industrialization meant that the old plantation economy system was no longer sustainable. Attempts at adapting the system with factories failed. In a move unpopular with the old aristocracy, the Confederate States emancipated its slaves. However, heavy economic, political, and social restrictions were placed on the black population. Though the aristocracy no longer maintained the vast plantations, they had managed to leverage their economic power from the old system unto this new one.

Conditions in the factories were brutal. Conditions in the cities weren't much better. Especially squalid were the black districts, where poverty was rampant, and the law was practically absent. The police didn't bother to enter the black districts of the town, unless they were pursuing a suspect. Occasionally they entered to shake down local businesses. Though banned, the works of Marx and Engels found their way into these environments, where they quickly took root. Inspired, the local pseudo-governments in these districts took on a distinctly red flair. Once they became more widespread, attempts to crack down on these "Local Councils" began in earnest.

These attempts were cut short by the Martian Invasion. Several major cities, including Richmond, fell early. The Confederate Army was deployed to fight off the invaders, and took horrendous casualties in the process, necessitating wider and wider drafts. As each new wave of conscripts removed available manpower from the factories, production (which had never been particularly high) began to falter. As blacks were forbidden from joining the army, they were thrown to work into the factories. Initially only allowed to work in non-critical industries (moving whites from those industries to the war industries), as manpower continued to fall they were given more and more leeway in which industries they could be employed in.

Despite this leeway, racial tensions and the necessities of war meant the conditions in the factories were worse than it had ever been before. The desperate nature of the defense meant that the smokestacks had to churn out products at an incredible pace. 12, 14, even 16 hour work days and brutal conditions were not uncommon even among the white workforce. Here, the seeds of a new form of socialism, Syndicalism, were sown. As Confederate society worked itself into collapse and the martian invasion continued unabated, it seemed that total defeat was inevitable. In a last gasp, blacks were finally allowed to join the army, and were conscripted en masse. The presence of so many additional fresh troops proved an effective stopgap. However, although the martians were slowed, they were not stopped, much less turned back. It seemed that all the move had done was provide the Confederacy some time.

But time was what was needed, as shortly after that the martians rapidly began to die off. Though they had resisted bullets, artillery shells, and several hundred thousand tons of human muscle, the invaders succumbed to that which would not fell a child. As the people cheered, the survivors looked to rebuild. Nearly all of the Confederacy's few industrial centers had been totally destroyed, and Richmond itself had fewer than a dozen structures still standing.

However bad the destruction was in the Confederacy, the Union was struck much harder. The Confederacy's weakness, its comparatively low industrial strength, had been its salvation. The Union had borne the brunt of the martian attacks upon North America, and it showed. The Union had been almost totally destroyed, and many of its inhabitants had fled. People of all stripes filed into the Confederacy during Reconstruction, from scientists, to former industrial tycoons, to politicians.

Disorder in the cities was common. In many places, the Confederate government was the authority only in name. The Local Councils, many of which had been instrumental in the war effort, held sway over most of the country. The surviving members of the Confederate Army returned to try and rebuild their own lives, only to find that they couldn't. Jobs were extremely scarce, as many industries had shut down or simply been destroyed. The surviving factories had their pick of employees. War-time conditions persisted, and troublesome workers were fired or even shot on the spot.

It was too much for the men to bear. Disgruntled workers, the unemployed, former soldiers, all seized the banner of angry revolt. Bereft of support from all quarters, the Confederate government collapsed. To restore national order, representatives from the largest and most influential Local Councils, many now rebranded Syndicates, met in St. Matthews, South Carolina. They agreed to form a new Confederacy, based loosely on the parliamentary democracies in Europe with a strong socialist flavor. A new flag was designed, and the Confederate Syndicates of America was born.

The Confederate Syndicates rigidly enforces several social edicts. People of all races and religions are to be treated equally under the law. Suffrage requires only citizenship and age of majority (currently set at 18). Citizenship is conferred upon completion of one of four requirements:
  • Both parents are citizens of the Confederate Syndicates.
  • One parent is a citizen of the Confederate Syndicates AND EITHER the child is born in the Confederate Syndicates OR the child in question has a residence of at least ten years in the country.
  • The person applying for citizenship has a residence of at least fifteen years in the country.
  • The person was a citizen of the Confederate States of America OR a non-citizen resident.

Citizenship is open to both men and women.

Discrimination based on race, gender, religion, or place of birth is illegal. The Confederate Syndicates maintains freedom of speech, the press, and many other liberties promised in the Bill of Rights of the Union's constitution (which were also present in the Confederacy's).

Resistance to these ideals is common, and has fueled the rise of the Freedom Party, which is believed to be the political front of several counterrevolutionary groups. The Freedom Party has been banned from participating in elections as a result.

Internal Politics:

President (Head of State): Eugene V. Debs
Head Councilor (Head of Government): Booker T. Washington

Government: Unitary Republic
The most local form of government is the Small Syndicate. A Small Syndicate can be a county, a city, or even a district a city. People residing in a Small Syndicate have the power to elect and run for leadership of the Small Syndicate. Many Small Syndicates make up a regular Syndicate, which corresponds to roughly the State level of the pre-war Confederacy. People can vote for the leadership of a Syndicate from candidates chosen by the leadership of each Small Syndicate.

The Supreme Syndicate is composed of representatives from each Syndicate. Half the seats in the Supreme Syndicate are directly elected by the population. The other half is appointed by parties depending on the percentage of the vote that particular party captured in the election. The President of the Confederate Syndicates is also chosen during this election. Though directly elected, the President is mostly a figurehead. The real power in government is that of the Head Councilor, who acts as the head of government and leader of the Supreme Syndicate. The Head Councilor is typically the leader of whichever party is in power.

The Syndicalist Union Party has maintained a monopoly on power since the establishment of the Confederate Syndicates.
