America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth.
Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these
countries is today paying even the interest on its
remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956,
it was the Americans who propped it up, and their
reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the
United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped
billions of dollars! into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that
is gloating over the erosion of the United States
dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon -! not once, but several times - and safely home again.

You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India
were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced
to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one
Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get
kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of
those."

Stand proud, America!

Damn straight!!!

Amen brother. Too many people knock this great and good nation. They helped my country survive, and this is a debt of honour some people never forget. My prayers are with the American people given the current tragic events. Please, let it be ended.

Thank you very much floppa21..... my grandfather was on a destoyer at Normandy and then in the south China sea....my father spent two years in Danayng (spelling)Vietnam and two years in Siagon as a M.P. for the U.S. Airforce...while what we did to Hiroshima and Nagasaki was questionable, the rebuilding efforts and funds we supplied to Japan now have Japan as a strong allies.....

I can think of one time another country came to americas aid. France , back in the American war for Independence. Back in the 18th century.
And why is that? You don't want your stereotypes shattered? open your eyes, look around, no else here is bashing america at this time. Sure others might not love us, but they aren't screaming that America deserved to be attacked. The only ones celebrating right now are palestinians who would rather throw rocks than make an honest day's wage.

And then there's you: "I will indeed lose my self-control, look the nearest american, and shoot him shouting "Americans suck!"

I rest my case.

I wont make a generalazation about american's.I try to look at every country with criticism ,and i don't think of the U.S as a a perfect society.I don't agree fully on all of bush his actions(and his party). But america hasn't asked for this tragedy. This was to barbaric ,a lot of civilians have been kiled yesterday. My condoledes for that.
This sort of terrorism is realy a threat not only to our western Nato country's.I'm sure you will get full support from Europe.I hope that too.
It has gotten so far now ,we have to support eachother.

I don't say that American's foreign policy has been very constructive last years. But the precense is as it now.We can't go back in the past.Rougue states have gotten to strongh.Yesterday has proven how dangerous the day today is.I fear for a lot of civilian death's, from this disaster and from the aftermatch.

Our problem is only a handfull of people.Bin laden ,Sadam ,Khadafi ,Kim jong il and a some more. They are the real threat. We have to get them ,not their civilians.don't send in bombers , use special forces to take out important people.
In fighting these people ,europeans will be willy to help you American's ,as it has to be.

Floppa, thank you very much for putting out some good press on us. It is very important for us all not to remember only the mistakes we have made, but to also consider all the truly wonderful things we have made too. Also, we must remember the great things that other countries have done for us.

Juize, I hope you are not the typical Fin. Otherwise, that country will drown itself in it's own bullfeathers by the end of this week.

Juize...I thought trolls were extinct in Finland...obvious one more to go.

Amen, brother!

But a very acurate article floppa. Perhaps you should let the screaming brats freeze in the dark next time and let them come crying for aid. It's classic AI behavior (and it's BS) : hate the powerful one.

Thousands upon thousands of people are gone. The WTC towers are gone. Our innocence is gone....but if you look closely at the news pictures taken from the helicopters south of Manhattan, you can still see her.

The Statue of Liberty still stands, representing the freedom that America offers...the freedom that our fathers died for...the freedom that we will forever defend...the freedom that beckons people from all over the world.

We may be bloodied for a while...we may be scarred for a generation...but WE WILL ALWAYS BE FREE.

Hm… WHO ARE THOSE AMERICANS - %English, %French, %Spanish, %%%%%% 100 nations – you should say those who occupy Native Americans land!!!! Your Grand grand fathers butchered innocent, defenseless people and you are proud of it!!!! SHUT UP YOUR MOUTH and thank God for what you have got!!!
Your government “helps” others as long as they see something in return!!!
Of course there are generous and great people living there and help others, but all nations have them!
Once again it does not apply to all of Americans!!!

All i have to say is shut the **** up. We have NATO backing us now <-----like we need them. Its funny no one is taking responsibility of this, they know what will happen if they do. And i have a feeling that the shits gonna hit the fan for all of those Arab Countries.
But yes all i have to say is shut the **** up. We pour billions of dollars and help everyone whenever some **** happens. And we get no thanks for it, but we get mother ****ers flying hi-jacked airliners into the WTC and the Pentagon.
I say **** all of you!

No bickering at this time, please.

If you don't like the USA, fine, that is your opinion.

The fact that I will consider you scum is irrelevant.

I will not permit this hostility in the OT, so change your tones or watch your posts magicallly disapear.

This goes for all. I find myself quite intolerent this day.
That was done more out of self-interest than for humanitarian aid. During the Civil War, France (along with several other European countries), supported the confederacy.

But some of the US aid was done out of self-interest too. The marshall plan money was to keep europe from going commie. And those airplanes everyone else flies, Americans made money off of those. SOme pure aid to others does happen, but sometime there is an ulterior motive.

Hey MR moderator!!!
Where is the right of free speech? In general no one blames or hates Americans… it is your behavior and doings that make you enemies. In other words: I love all people and I respect you all, but there are things that many of us DO wrongly and those doings we criticize!!!! The point is that no other nation (maybe English – coincidence!?!?) jump up and scream: we are the best, we rule world and we blow all those who do not like us!!! that is what all world dislikes about USA!!!
Best wishes to you all!!!

This board isn't a democracy, nor am i know for felxibility.

Your rights are what we say they are here, and you can vote with your cyber feet if you don't like it.

I might be inclined to discuss it some time, but look at where my home town is, and the thread i wrote on this forum, and you might have an inkling of what I'm about.

You want to talk, talk.

You want to hurt, or to bait, say goodbye.
