well polaks have a lot of pent up grievances (getting left at the mercy of the commies after WW2 etc.)and therefore are easily irritated and prone to overreaction.

People like irritating people, especialy those that get realy irritated and overreact.

Voila!

Well that explains a lot. I have always thought they were an insignificant country anyways so I just didn't get why a nation so uninmportant got so much attention.

Why si much debate about Poland? What did they do to get this much attention? Someone enlighten me.

It's a long story that goes back to when people tried to guess the civs that were in BTS.

Stop learning history from Civilization game :D

Hey, he's seventeen, still learning, but apparently being "a lesser cousin of the horse" hole, he got with his mothers milk.

Um, what... Ok I'll just levae now... kidding. But seriously I don't really like the atention given to insignificant countries. But then again I watch college athletics where all they do is talk about significant teams not the insignificant ones. So I guess I am learning still:D

What has Poland done besides get attacked?

Also attacking? Winning wars? Last war won in 1920 against... let me see... Soviet Union? After two major defeats and destruction of soviet armies?

During our 1000 year old history we were loosing wars, but also winning - normal thing. Some wars we won in a spectacular way.

I actually have had a bunch of history books and always read about Poland being conqured.

So you have a strange books then :D Not entirely your fault though it seems. But you see... you probably think such statements will irritate me, but in fact those who wrote such things make fools of themselves and shows only lack of knowledge. So, if someone choose to make a fool of himself just to give someone a buzz - the choice is his :)

@History buff: You wanna learn history? Go and look for the user DACHS and ask him to teach you.

After the country just came out of a huge civil war fought immediately after a world war.

Winning a war against a country barely a year old. Spectacular.

After the country just came out of a huge civil war fought immediately after a world war.

And with incredibly higher human resources also supported by communists in Western Europe (who were sabotaging weapon and ammo shippments to Poland) by a country that was much smaller, suffered a 123 year old occupation, divided by three completely differently developed regions and that regained it's independence only year ago. Yeah, I think it's something. Besides - Soviet Union was a direct descendant of the Russian Empire, so calling it "one year old state" is a huge manipulation.

Still fresh out of a civil war and a world war.

That said, I know that Poland was once massive and has had several great accomplishments, but this isn't one of them.

You sound like world war I did not affected us. Poland was devastated - war took place also on our land. In 1919 we also were in a bad situation. And those two major battles that I speak of took place after Soviets managed to deploy huge army and were ready to send in huge reinforcements. If you compare capabilities (mostly human resources) then it was something extraordinary.

The only noteworthy thing the Poles did in the past 400 years besides get invaded was fight in the Battle of Vienna.

You say so because you've learnt about it few minutes ago? :D I have to dissappoint you - you still have much to learn :)

Wow, stop living in the past and get some new achievements.

Hmm? First not-communistic government in post-soviet europe (before more famous "fall of Berlin Wall"), becoming a member of NATO and then EU. And while you suffered badly from the recession (and IIRC you are still suffering), Poland managed to maintain economical growth as the only one country in Europe IIRC.

We are doing a steady progress and who knows how Europe will look like in 2050? Who knows - maybe we really have such enormous gas deposits here?

Basically, there was a huge arguement when Civ 4 BTS came out, on the inclusion of Poland in the game. (I think I got my first 2000 posts on this forum from those days )

Since then, Poland has always been a popular topic on this site.

After BTS came out I moved to Off Topic section and kinda help enflame the Center vs Eastern European discussions on here, which were originally started by Winner.

Anyway, after countless argueing over whether Central European countries are infact Central, or Eastern European, it became clear that there is no REAL reason for countries like Poland to be Eastern European other then Communists, being Slavic, or have in the past been controlled by Russia.

Thus the ignorants who continue calling it Eastern regardlessly went on to troll Poland for the last two years.
