it still begs the question, is Vegimite a black yeast jelly or a black yeast jam tho ?
So, to prevent spending $80+ on an appointment that may not be needed, I'll run this through you guys first.
About five months ago, nearly six now, I got a wisdom tooth removed. It sucked, but was alright in the long run. In the past week, I've noticed that the tooth directly above the wisdom tooth removal site is... Well, I'm not sure. It's not in pain, I've really not noticed any difference, but looking at the tooth there seems to be black/brown specks up near the gum and some bright white chunks on the edges that are not food. Brushing heavily on them takes a little bit off, and it seems to be little flakes of tooth, but not.. from that tooth. After some scrubbing, I got one half completely clear and the tooth itself is fine. There's no difference.
Which leads me to the question, "What the hell is this stuff?"
Again, it's not food. It is VERY hard material. It feels about as hard as a tooth but it comes off after some persistence. What's going on?
If it's the same stuff as Marmite, and tentative research with a barge pole indicates it may be, then no one should approach the stuff without full body hazardous protective equipment including full face mask and breathing apparatus. Showers should be available for immediate use in case of accidental contact. Post traumatic stress disorder counselling is considered essential by most authorities on the subject.
Jam or jelly?
Who cares? That's like a victim of a nuclear bomb asking whether it's fusion or fission.
Could be a lot of things, could just be plaque. Even if it's just plaque you need your teeth regularly cleaned off by somebody that knows what they're doing if you want to keep your originals. Which, if everyone I know with dentures is right, are worth keeping. Go see the dentist at least once a year for a regular cleaning if nothing more if you can at all swing the money. It's worth scrimping for for a while if possible. Particularly if you have unidentified white material that could be who knows what.
Argh. Just got them cleaned this January and the dentist gave me a nod to good self-care. Guess I'll start saving up money for this. :/

The hard white stuff that can make it's way to the surface after wisdom tooth removal surgery are little pieces of your jaw-bone that were attached to the tooth. They normally come out on their own, although 6 months is a really long time for this. It sounds like there could be an infection from it getting stuck in your gum. You'll probably need anti-biotics and the dentist to remove the piece(s).
One thing you might want to note - follow-ups related to the initial surgery are sometimes covered in the initial cost of the treatment. Call and ask. Specify that what is happening you suspect is related to the wisdom tooth removal you had done there. In the very least they'll probably look at it and tell you what's wrong.
Wiki has the former as 'fatherland, motherland' etc, and doesn't recognise the second.
