The Very Many Questions-Not-Worth-Their-Own-Thread Thread XXXII

Lemon is a mod? I'm glad I came back now.

A dilemma: I potentially have the opportunity to date a 17-year-old. My dating life has been pretty much nonexistent since I moved here, so I'm not as picky as most. But I want to know if it is considered "creepy" for a 21-year-old to date someone that young.

(Age of consent is 16 in Israel.)
It matters less what we think than what her family thinks. It might be a good idea to find out if her parents would be opposed to their daughter dating someone who is on the other side of 18 (which is adult age in most places, as far as I'm aware). Just because she's legally allowed to consent doesn't mean her family will be okay with it.

Even if nobodoy notices, you will know ;).
But people do notice.
I also changed radically 4.5 years ago. Changed from a computer games playing loner to an active and outgoing person.
Was probably one of the toughest things I ever did, but I do not regret it. Life is better now.
So if you really want to change...do it. You're not really losing anything, but gaining new experiences, which is definitely a good thing.
I fee like we've had front row seats to this transition as well and it's been pretty awesome.

That makes it sound weirder.

I just wanted to clarify that a relationship wouldn't involve anything illegal, even in theory.

You keem making it sound weirder every time.

And then it'll go over NINE THOUSAND.

:hmm:

However it sounds, it's more desperation than weirdness. (Teenagers, yes, who can resist undeveloped breasts and aspirations of being a pop singer?)

Please stop, get a cold shower, eat, do something else for a while, and in a couple of hours try and reread your posts.

OK, just imagine your watching a movie. Some comedy or something and there's a dude -maybe played by Will Ferrell- who is in a relationship with a minor, but age of consent in his state is 16, so it's legal.
And he repeatedly, of his own accord with no prompting, keeps insisting that the age of consent is 16 and he's not doing anything illegal.

Is there literally anything I could say on the subject that wouldn't strike you as off-putting? I don't have great dating prospects, a woman I know offered to set me up with a younger single friend, I was concerned that she was too young - so I sought the judgment of others. The very definition of pedo?

To be in a relationship implies (to others) that the participants may have sex, even if you have no intention of doing so. Imagine how I would have looked had I come on here asking if dating a 17-year-old was creepy, if the age of consent was strictly 18. I wouldn't be surprised if I got banned for it.

I get that, but repeating it makes it funny.

Apparently ‘a couple of hours’ means ten minutes to you. :shake:

This makes it sound better :groucho:.

Yes, everyone here had, but I hope nobody saw too much (because it was terrifying).
The mod forum saw a bit more of it, and I hope it didn't bother anyone.

Anyways, it means with some willpower, you can do it.
If you have the willpower, and what will be necessary to get it...different story though.

It's the insistence that everything is on-the-level. If you're that concerned then it's not worth any real investment on your part. You're going to spend more time reassuring people that what you're doing is legal and spending less time on wading into the dating world/learning about yourself/others.

What do you hope to gain by dating someone who only just got out of high school (or may still be in it)? As a 21 year old, what's the appeal besides the mere circumstance of dating someone? It's surely not because you like this person since you haven't met them yet. All you know is their age and that they are probably a woman. Is that enough?

Apparently she's 'very cute.' I hear it is pleasurable to interact with someone that you find attractive, whether or not you plan on intercourse.

I'm also, erm, not going to advertise the age difference to everyone I know.

I am at least 83% certain that Israel has more than one attractive female. Some of them may even be older than 17.

Well, I'm doing something wrong then, because I've been on... oh, zero dates since I moved here.

Half your age +7 is a pretty good rule of thumb. So that puts things right on the edge. You get down to counting months. Because she is under 18, it could be considered "inappropriate". To be safe you should check in with her parents and make sure they know the situation she is getting into.
