The Walking Dead: AMC-channel series Anyone psyched?

This series started really well then went downhill very fast. Once you get past the high production values of the pilot, its really just some crappy actors sitting around in a forest communicating with some of the worst dialogue I have ever seen. Very dissapointing.

For fun heres a list of the many niggles I have with the program:

- The lead always wears the cop uniform. This instantly flags him as a douchebag. What sort of idiot wears his uniform when the world has ended...

-The lead's wife resorts to anal forest sex with her husbands best friend just a few days into the whole thing. I found that ridiculous. Now I know you'll protest and say she thought he was dead. Thats fair enough, if the grieving process involves taking it up the ass with your face in the dirt. I know it spices up the story line a lot, but at the cost of me having any empathy for the female lead.

- The scene where the two blonde chicks are in the boat talking about their father, and how he taught them how fish. What a load of balls. It was clearly just to set up the fact one of them was going to die. Also the dialogue was typically horrible, "He knew I had to catch the fish, while you needed to throw them back". Then they cry. Jesus Christ.

- The actor who plays the old guy with the beard is very distracting with his eyes. Not in a sexy way either. Every scene he's in his eyes are freaking wide open like hes in the middle of some weirdly introspective MDMA trip.

- Deus Ex Machina. I hope I used this phrase right. This program has had some real cops in terms of story line. There are a few big plotlines where a problem has been solved from out of nowhere. For example the gang standoff scene thats broken up by Guillermo's senile granny. That made me quite angry. Also the fact the lead found his wife by getting trapped in a tank then happening to get a radio and get in contact with a guy trapped in a department store who had just ventured into the city from a camp where he lived with the lead's goddamn wife.

I could go on but thats enough ranting for now. Very dissapointing program, I think AMC may have just struck lucky with Breaking Bad.

For what its worth, I am pro-crossbow guy.

It needs more action instead of stupid dialogue

I just downloaded the comic book it's based on. Turns out that it starts in Cynthiana, Kentucky. I thought that was kind of cool cause my stepfather is from there and I've been there many times, I'm from Lexington which is about half an hour away so kind of a local connection. I guess that's kind of lame to everyone else though. It's just that you never hear Kentucky, let alone Cynthiana referenced anywhere. Now I'm stuck in Azerbaijan.

I've heard the series is different from the comic book in many ways so if you do choose to read it then it won't spoil the series for you. It's the first comic I've read since I was 12.

One quibble... notice that when someone shoots a gun, they always get a head-shot?

Ehh, considering the concept, I guess I shouldn't complain about this form of poetic license either.

AFAIK Whole point of The Walking Dead was not the zombie-kill-festival but relations and "drama".

Yes, but it tends to get boring for a zombie series if nothing happens

The season 2 premiere was excellent, the best episode since the premiere. This episode was very tense and creepy. Makes me feel confident the show can live up to the comic book.

Spoiler :
The ending of the premiere just wanted to make me scream, who the hell shot the kid. Lol!

Seriously, use spoilers. I just got Netflix and have this show queued for streaming. I've not seen a single episode yet.

@MjM
My thread is older and longer MUCH longer. :p

Looks to be quite good, watched the first episode the other night and tremendously enjoyed it.

Pretty exciting

Spoiler :
From the previews of next week it looks like they stumbled on some other community. Are Shane and blondie (good Lord I just cannot remember their names) going to run off?

Spoiler :
Her name is Andrea, but I am still wondering does Carl survive :( they showed whats his name carrying him..
Also it seems as though the group splits in two completely, some with Shane and some with Rick (i'm guessing??)

Yeah I'm surprised by the name, how many little kids are named Carl? I would expect his name to be Jayden or Jack, one of the trendy names. Hardly anyone young is named Carl. Even people my age.

I just remember Shane because it reminds me of that movie made about the short story and the little boy shouts Shane all the time or at least at some key point in the movie.

So, the first half of the Season 2 is over now, and it's been a disappointment to me. A review from Metacritic that fits the best:

Too often this season, the humans on the show have been idiotic, annoying or sanctimonious -- sometimes all three. The time spent on Hershel Greene's farm was often a waste, not just of time but of the relatively sturdy momentum the show had cranked up in its short first season. ... The biggest problem with the first half of season 2 is that it was about two hours of viable storytelling stretched out over seven hours.

Exactly. They decided to waste about 5 of the 7 episodes on stuff that didn't help the series in any noticeable way. I don't mind if a season starts slow-paced (as Breaking Bad usually does), but the stuff we see need to have some purpose - develop characters, set the stage for the more interesting events to come.

In TWD, this felt like huge waste of time. I mean, if you're going to focus on dialogues, at least make them good. But it was the opposite here, I couldn't stand when Lori and Rick talked with each other, I'd have to put a bullet through their heads if I were standing next to them. Such a load of horse manure, totally unrealistic, completely aggravating. For the first time my fingers itched to hit the "move forward 5 sec" button.

I really hope the pace will change and we'll finally start seeing something on the show. If the characters spend the next 6 episodes crying over the loss of ***spoiler***, the show is finished. There is only so much torture you can tolerate to watch a series with zombies.
