The whole game is a bad joke

I'm sure some people are probably having problems, and from the description it sounds like there are some situational bugs popping up. But I have had a great time with no problems so far. I'm really enjoying the game.

Okay, I just installed the game. It won't even run on my blazing FX-57 machine. Starts up, and then says 'civ4 has generated an error and need to close'. This game is a joke. Can I still return this to BestBuy?

What are you guys talking about? There are NO frickin' bugs in this game. There are some things that might have been implemented more efficiently (then again, the interface may just take some getting used to,) and there may be compatibility issues with some video drivers (not mine,) but I have had *NO* problems getting the game to work properly. (Which is, after all, what a "bug" is.)

What are you talking about? Of course this game has bugs, it has no choice, it's a computer game. It's simply a fact of life that new releases will always be at least a little bit buggy (of course, moving the release date up only exacerbated the problem). Just because it runs just dandy on your computer doesn't mean it's completely devoid of bugs whatsoever. Saying thus is just as asinine as saying that the game is nothing but a giant bug.

Dida- does your cd rom/dvd drive spin really fast when installing?
is there a way to slow to read speed down a bit ala' magic speed program..
don't or you may possibly have a bad game cd..

Nice fashion? Take a look at the thread title, all he's doing is ranting! This kind of posting is guaranteed to get negative feedback from others, in fact he's probably hoping for it. He's just being a typical troll and not offering any real constructive criticism of the game.

The game is not a joke. 75% of gamers here seem to agree. You have a problem because of your computer and the hardware and software configuration. Did you send your computer' specs to Fixaxis while they were doing the development work? I'm sure that they would have configured things to work on your personal machine.

some people might hate me for this... ive got a 2.5 year old dell dimension 4550, with 2.4gh pentium 4, 512 ram, geforce4 mx 420 (64mb) vid card... pretty outdated to say the least, and i got the game running fine with the visual settings turned up as high as they go, with the res. on 1280*1024... it takes a little bit to load, and there's a little lag at times, but nothing that interferes with game play...

as far as lag goes, minor lag doesnt bother me too much in a turn based game... i have empire earth 2, which has serious lag problems, and i cant even play it, because lag kills a RTS game... but a little bit of lag doesnt effect gameplay in a turnbased game vs. the AI, besides just slowing things down a bit...

peace

"point out the negatives"????
Sorry for this thread but I'm so disappointed from Civ 4. I was playing Civilization since Civ 1 and my favorit game is Civ 2.

But Civ 4:

- More Bugs than Starship Troopers

- The 3D grafic is

- The panoramic view is

- The AI of the enemy is

- Civ 4 composite is

I hope really that a patch in the next days eliminate all grafic errors (also Nividia cards) and make the F-Hotkeys useable (at the moment the System always crashed when I put F5).

And to that guy who is responsible for the 3d grafik --> go to hell!!!!!!!!!!
There's a difference between explaining what a problem is and just putting in an emote to sum up your "feelings."

I keep reading people complaining about bugs but I yet to see a legitimate description of the problem they think of as a bug. I played this thing 10 hours now I haven't seen a single glitch that I would classify as a bug.

As for the graphics and the interface, well, that's a highly subjective topic, some people like it some don't.
Which is probably why gamespot and ton of other online gaming sites have previews with a 1000 screenhots so you can decide before you buy the game if you like it or not.

To find bugs, I'm sure one would need to look no further than the Bug Reports section of the forum. With over 1000 posts, I'm sure there's at least one legitimate bug to be found.

The graphics rendering problem for GTI owners was a bug. People with Geforce cards are crashing to the desktop during cut sceens even though they exceed spec requirments, they've updated there drivers, and run the DX diagnostic to no availe (sounds like a bug to me). There's obviously a memory leak because many, many people with above system specs (like me) experience severe lag to the point of unplayablity (sounds like a bug to me). I have'nt seen this one posted, but aprox 8 times today I couldn't save a game due to a "failed to save game error" (that really bugged me). The interface is not a bug persay, but it should be if only so that it could be squashed. ;)

I have some minor complaints with this Civ -- the Civilopedia, the absence of a throne room, and the absence of a completely random map option -- but in general I think it's a terrific game. I'm very surprised to hear someone complain about the AI; I think it's the best Civ AI yet. The AI in Civ 2 hardly sets the standard for computer-game AI. I think the 3D graphics add a lot to the game, and I find almost every new feature well-thought-out: religion, promotions, health, great people, etc. I think folks should spend some time just playing random games and getting used to it all.
I really never got what the throne room has to do with the game. It makes no sense.

I for one and LOVING the game. Soooo much better and more logical than Civ 3 IMO for instance:

- roads are much better done
- great to see improvements on the map
- 3d graphics will the moving makes things come to life
- Combat is actually fun to watch now and see yourself win or lose
- love the ability to custom "upgrade" the military units with promotions and such... you can customize the focus of your units "Defense, etc"
- LOVE the speed adjustment for the game. I can now actually finish a game in an evening or really draw one out over a weekend depending on how much time i can devote to the game. I am super busy so this is awesome
- I even like the alarm. Set it 15 mins before I have to spend time with my wife and bam I am not stuck trying to wrap up something at the wrong time.
- the music is just AWESOME

Also, I have had ZERO technical problems with the game NONE, NADA. I feel bad for the people that have tech problems (nothing worse than waiting sooo long for something and then not have it work), and I hope it works out but the game is great. :goodjob:

One man's "bug" is another man's "undocumented feature"

I think the game play is fantastic. I really didn't like Civ 3 and went back to Civ 2 after a short while. I find this interface to be very intuative and I can carry over most of my Civ2 operating skills. Its like Civ 2 with a nicer interface. I think once we get used to it we'll like it better.

I have a radeon 9800 se graphics card and have no issues with the game. Its only some Radeons with certain versions of the drivers.

L;) ;) K, obviously some people aren't :D ... it does seem like a beta build, lets face it :( ... However, when you look at the fact that Take Two made them push up the release date because of poor fiscal preformance in the last quater (due to GTA:SA being pulled off the shelves), you have to expect a slightly rushed game. This equals bugs. I'm not :) with the final product... and i can at least get it to run.. barely. There are a lot of mem issues, as well as play issues still present. I however am not giving up on it... i've been playing siv since the demo of civ 1 (beat that ;)) and love.this.game... Have some faith, have some patience.... things will get better..... i hope lol

I have a Pentium 4 3.4ghz, ati radeon 9800xt with a gb of memory and I am running this game at almost max settings. The only time where it gets slow is towards the modern age where it is just doing a TON of work.

However I think the bugs, slowness and what not is truly a result of a multitude of things.

1. We can finally see the true performance of one's PC. Chipset quality and motherboard quality now make a big difference (for example my Asus mobo is running an Intel 875P chipset) whereas yours might be an ECS with a SiS chipset, so forth. Sometimes (actually very often) the quality problems can be the result of something outside the game
2. Game should've have been tested on a more wide variety of systems and not just on high performance workstations (high performance meaning good chipset, brand of system memory, etc etc etc, NOT cpu speed, graphics card and memory amount)
