The World Turned Upside Down

To United Commonwealth States
From Eire (and presumably Scotland and Wales):

We would like to investigate reopening proper trade ties between our nations, in an effort not only to stabilize our immediate area but also to restore and improve our relations.

The Union of Commonwealth States wish to express its deep concerns over the expanding world war. Though we wish to see an end to this war as soon as possible, we will not allow enemy troops or ships access to our territory or ports due to a state of neutrality that is now written into our Constitution. We also wish to enforce the fact that our trade relations have been normalized with all nations, but we will not be granting free trade agreements to any nations until our fledgling industries have time to grow.

TO AMERICAN ACCORD
FROM ARGENTINA

We believe two things need to be done right now: coordination of tech research with Brazil, and an intervention in Chile to free the people to choose once more and remove the military dictators. Luis Altamirano has seized power without the peoples support. We need to bring down this sham of a regime before he can threaten the unity and peace of south america.

To: American Accord
From: Ecuador

We refuse to interfere in another government's affairs. Should any attempt to overthrow the government in Chile be made, we will leave the alliance.

To: Argentina
From: Chile

We reaffirm our alliance with the American Accord and we will not neglect our treaty agreements despite some recent turmoil in our government.

OOC: I did say 30ish j_eps, it is now a 24 hour warning almost exactly from when orders are due. I have only orders from Eire, USA, China, and Greece.

Edit: Oh yeah, have South Africa's orders too.

A Punctual Irishman? Oh dear god whats happened to the world?

The deadline is here, I will be updating at work today without benefit of internet. Shadowbound, Germany will be NPCed and i will base your actions on our correspondence over the past couple of days.

AMERICAN PRESIDENT MAKES HISTORIC TRIP TO RUSSIA. St. Petersburg, Russia. As the first head of state to travel by aircraft, President Franklin Roosevelt has flown to St. Petersburg in early December to discuss affairs of the world with the new President of Russia. Presidents Trotsky and Roosevelt agreed that despite the disputes of the past that peace was not impossible. Ultimately resulting from this conference was a historic nonaggression and trade pact between the two nations. Despite this, President Trotsky still refuses to allow American businesses in to "corrupt and exploit the peasants of Russia". (+1 Private Enterprise for Russia and USA)

MILITARY COUP IN ECUADOR. Quito, Ecuador. For several decades Ecuador has been under the rule of Eloy Afaro, a liberal socialist who helped reform the tyrannical previous government. However in recent years he abused his power as his government became more and more corrupt. In March of 1925, the military with mostly popular support overthrew Afaro, who was lynched in a library in Quito. The new government has reformed a republic and new elections have been held. The Conservative Party, a long time proponent of increasing ties with the rest of the American Accord has gained power in this historic first election. (+10% Dissent)

CHILE ENDS SUPPORT FOR ACCORD. Santiago, Chile. Chile has been said to have been pressured into the American Accord since its defeat at the hands of Bolivia and Peru in the 2nd Pacific War. As of this year, Chile has announced it is ending all physical forms of membership within the American Accord and will no longer provide military or economic support for any actions of the Accord. Despite this, Presidente Altamirano has promised to remain in the alliance diplomaticly to help resolve conflicts in South America through diplomatic means. Altamirano's declaration has effectively ended all resistance against him in Chile as almost 100% of Chileans are anti-Accord and anti-Bolivia. MUSSOLINI GIVEN EMERGENCY POWER. Rome, Italy. As the Second World War progresses and grows across the world, Italy finds itself more and more drawn into a total war. In order to allow the nation to proceed with greatest efficiency King Emanualle has given Benito Mussolini, Italy's Fascist prime minister, complete dictatorial power over the government. Whether he will mantain it following the end of the war remains to be seen. (-1% Dissent for Italy)

BOLSHEVIKS SWEEP RUSSIAN ELECTION. St. Petersburg, Russia. As Russia falls into turmoil following its exit from the Second World War, the Bolsheviks have managed to sweep the Duma and have gained the Presidency with canidate Leon Trotsky in the October 1925 elections. President Trotsky has vowed to rebuild the nation's "industry, infastructure, morale, and dignity" in his Presidency, promising to use the Bolshevik Party to help improve the working and living conditions of the common Russian. Dissatisfaction with the harsh treaties from the Muslims and Chinese indubitably have contributed to the fall of the Conservative government under Kerensky and the rise of the Bolsheviks. CAUCUS BORDERS REDRAWN. Tysartin, Russia. With Russia's official surrender to the Brotherhood of Islamic Nations being completed in late October, the nations of Azerbajan, Turkey, and Georgia have all been recognized by the new Bolshevik government. Azerbajan, another Islamic theocracy has been admitted to the Brotherhood of Islamic Nations and has joined the war against the remaining CFI nations. Georgia, a communist dictatorship, has agreed to a non-aggression pact against the Muslims and has pledged to be "the Swiss of the Caucuses" to the nations of the Middle East and Eastern Europe. See below for more information on Turkey.

ATATURK KILLED IN TURKEY. Ankara, Turkey. In heavy fighting east of the city, Muslim Brotherhood forces accidently shelled Ataturk's headquarters near the front. Ataturk, the most popular Turk, was the loudest opponent of radical Islam in the Middle East. Following his death, Islamic Brotherhood forces moved into Ankara and set up a new Islamic regime in the city to prevent complete chaos in the region. The new regime is unpopular with most Turks and many feel they may have exchanged one tyrant for another. (+30% Dissent for Turkey)

KING RAMA VI OF SIAM DIES IN BED. Bangkok, Siam. King Rama VI, the leader who led the Siamese people through the dark days of CFI occupation and the Asian theater of the Second World War, died in bed of unknown causes. His son Rama VII has been coronated as the new king of Siam. Rama VII has pledged to continue his father's support for the Chinese government, particularly as a new war opens up with the UCS. In addition he has promised to begin more domestic reform, lowering taxes and encouraging business in the developing Indochina nation.

MONGOLIA JOINS SINO ALLIANCE ADMIST ELECTION DISPUTE. Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia. Following Mongolia's first election after Russia made peace with the Allies, the nation rose up in heated debate over the authenticity of the election. Many accusations have been made against the Chinese government for interfering with the process and installing a Premeir of their choosing rather then one of the genuine popular canidates. The new leader of the country is believed by many to be nothing more than a corrupt puppet of the Chinese Emperor. (+20% Dissent)

CHINA INVADES BURMA. In a not so surprising move, the Chinese Emperor ordered the invasion of the Union of Commonwealth States to punish them for their percieved betrayal of the Sino Alliance at the start of the Sino-Nipponese War. Expecting to be met as liberators by the people of Burma, the Chinese have been met with persistant partisan attacks on supply lines and a very uncooperative populace. Though they have managed to crush UCS forces whenever they are able to meet out in the open, whenever the Chinese go into the extensive jungle and mountains of Burma, they meet with considerable resistance. Mostly this is due to the inability of armor to work properly and the lack of good roads and infastructure have allowed the Commonwealth army to escape intact time and again as they fight a desperate delaying action to prevent the Chinese from breaking into the flatter land of eastern India.

AFRICAN UNION SWITCHES SIDES. In a stunning move to the global community, Abyssinia and South African of the African Union have left their alliance with the European League and have joined alongside the Common Front International. In exchange for joining the CFI, the African Union have been promised the extensive EL possessions held in Africa, including both Portuguese and Italian colonies. Both sides have vacated territories occupied in the recent years fighting between the two sides. For the people of South Africa this was a wildly unpopular move, as many believe victory would have come and that it was foolish to abandon hard fought gains for practically worthless territory. For Abyssinia the people look forward to fighting their old Italian enemies once again. Already Portugal's sole remaining colony in Africa has fallen to the South Africans though they still retain control over impressive tracts of German terriotry. (+5% Dissent for South Africa, -1% Dissent for Abyssinia; economic stats are restored to prewar as South Africa and Abyssinia lose the economic gains they had made from conquest of Central Africa)

CONSCRIPTION BEGINS IN MULTIPLE NATIONS. Like France, many nations of both the European League and the Common Front International have begun conscription to provide the manpower to carry out of the needs of the war. The nations which have mobilized and how many they will be receiving each turn are provided in the list below:
Italy (15 Conscript Divisions each turn for 3 years or until the war ends)
Portugal (5 Conscript Divisions each turn for 3 years or until the war ends)
Spain (7 Conscript Divisions each turn for 3 years or until the war ends)
(All nations recieve +5% Dissent for beginning conscription)

ABYSSINIA SIEZES SOMALIA. Following the surprising Treaty of Pretoria and the subsequent declaration of war by the African Union on the European League, Abyssinia proceeded to invade and conquer the Italian colony of Somalia. In the process they also captured the near vacant Italian naval base at the Horn of Africa, siezing control of a group of destroyers based there. The vital sealine created by the capture of Somalia has allowed Abyssinia to make up for the loss of Zanzibar and German East Africa economically. Rumors of an Abyssinian assualt along the Nile have yet to materialize, though French forces have continued an advance along the western coastline of the Red Sea. Local Italian supported government have begun calling forth a militia army to fight the invaders, though any significant amount of resistance is nonexistant against the attack CFI forces. (+1 Private Enterprise for Abyssinia; Abyssinia gains one of Italy's Destroyer Groups)

MUSLIMS JOIN THE WAR. The Brotherhood of Islamic Nations, a historic opponent of Russian expansionism and an enemy of the Orthodox theocracy which once existed there, has attacked the Common Front International. Islamic armies have swept all before them north and west, driving the Russians back on all fronts. In Turkey, Islamic forces proceeded to launch a massive offensive in February, driving all the way to Georgia when the new Bolshevik government finally surrendered in October. Combined with this was another major offensive against Constantinople, using stolen merchant ships where over 200,000 soldiers stormed Constantinople and began a drive against the Bulgarians. In the west, the Greek city of Kavala has already been captured by the Muslims, while in the north, Dar-al-Islam's advance has met with the Romanian drive from Constanta. Now with Bulgaria making peace overtures, the Muslims look east to strike the weakening Serbian flank. In middle Asia, Turkestan helped bring Russia to its knees by immediately siezing control of the Trans-Siberian railroad. Without this vital lifeline, the Russian government was swept out of office in the October elections.
Casualty List
Dar-al-Islam: 4 Infantry Divisions
Persia: 3 Militia Divisions
Turkey: 3 Militia Divisions, 2 Infantry Divisions
Turkestan: 4 Militia Divisions
Russia: 11 Militia Divisions, 6 Infantry Divisions

RUSSIA SURRENDERS. With the fall of the Trans-Siberian Railroad and continuous defeats at the hands of the Brotherhood of Islamic Nations, Russia has had no choice but to make peace with the Allies. Following the forced January peace in which the Vladiostock region had to be given up to China and Mongolia had to be given independance, Russia's morale had been broken. With the massive defeats inflicted upon their armies in Asia Minor and the Caucuses, the Russian people threw out the Conservative Kerensky government and replaced it with Leon Trotsky's Bolsheviks who promised an end to the war and a rebuilding of Russian society. The Treaty of Baku reads as following:
1. Peace is made between the members of the Brotherhood of Islamic Nations and the Russian Republic.
2. Turkestan will withdraw from its holdings along the Trans-Siberian railway.
3. Russia will recognize the soveriegn nations of Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbajan.
4. Russia will give up all claims on Asia Minor and the city of Constantinople.
5. Russia will recognize a new Islamic Republic of Albania following the war.
6. Russia will allow Islamic missionaries to preach the word of Allah freely across the nation.

GREEK FRONT. As Muslims raged against the eastern defenses of the CFI, Serbian forces launched several offensives against the narrow Isthmus of Cornith, attempting to destroy the last Allied pocket on the penninsula. However, strong Greek fortifications and air and sea superiority have won the day for the Allies as Serbian forces were ultimately forced to retreat to hold the northern flank against the advancing Muslim army. With the retreat of the Serbs, Italian and Greek forces launched a belated counterattack in the region as soon as snow fell, surprising the Serbian Army. By Christmas of 1925, Greek forces had returned to Athens in triumph. However, the Serbian army has regouped and advances from Athens seem nigh impossible for the Allied troops without significant reinforcements. Greece: 1 Infantry Division
Italy: 1 Infantry Division
Serbia: 3 Infantry Divisions

SERBIANS OCCUPY BALKANS. With German forces stretched to the limit containing Allied offensives in northern Italy and France, Kaiser Wilhelm II has given control of the management of the Adriatic coast and the central Balkans to the Serbian monarchy. The annexation of the central Balkans has effectively created King Alexander's long desired Balkan Slavic state. This movement has been popular amongst many in the occupied regions and the Serbian economy has gained a temporary boom as people arrive en masse to fight for the growing Serbian kingdom. (+8 Militia Divisions and 1 Military Spending for Serbia)

ITALIAN FRONT. With fighting growing in scale in Iberia and France, the front in northern Italy has become a stalemate as both sides focus elsewhere. This said, both the Italians and Germans continue to send troops to this front and two of the world's largest armies continue to stand off. Early in the year, German forces did launch an assualt toward Florence in an attempt to drive into more Italian industrial centers, but they were halted just north of the city by newly arrived conscripts from the region. A later Italian offensive in September would drive the Germans out of Milan and further east, but a early winter and harsh conditions prohibited any further offensives by either side for the remainder of the year.
Casualty List
Italy: 3 Conscript Divisions, 2 Infantry Divisions
Germany: 4 Infantry Divisions

IBERIAN FRONT. Using Portuguese armored and motorized forces as a spearhead, European League managed a major counteroffensive against the CFI. Barcelona was quickly recaptured by the advancing Spanish forces while some of the vanguard even managed to penetrate into southern France. Despite the successes in the east, CFI forces managed to hold a solid defensively line in Euskadi and the Pyrennes. Using that position, French and German armored forces launched a counterattack which managed to cut off a large Spanish force at Barcelona. A Portuguese local counteroffensive failed to relieve the Spanish army trapped in the city and only due to an exposed supply line and persistant air assualts by the Allies were the CFI armies forced to retreat back into the mountains. Further Allied offensives were rendered impossible when Nipponese forces siezed control of the Canary Islands and the Azores, seeming to threaten an amphibious invasion of Portugal or southern Spain.
Casualty List
Spain: 4 Conscript Divisions, 3 Infantry Divisions
Portugal: 2 Conscript Divisions, 2 Infantry Divisions, 1 Motorized Division
France: 3 Infantry Divisions, 1 Armored Division, 1 Biplane Squadron
Germany: 1 Infantry Division

NIPPONESE ENTER EUROPEAN WAR. For the first time in history an Asian army has arrived in Europe to fight. Never before has this occured and many Europeans have becomed concerned about this on all sides. Combined with the Muslim and Chinese victories further east, it seems more and more as though Europe is losing its grip on the world. More to the point, Nipponese forces have siezed the Canary Islands and the Azores during the summer and autumn of 1925 from minimal garrison forces, causing much panic in Portugal and western Spain. Many spies and newspapers have confirmed that the Nipponese Army has landed in Cherbourg and are marching to join the CFI armies on the main fronts of the war.

EUROPEAN LEAGUE INVADES GERMANY. In a surprising move, the motorized, armored, and cavalry columns of the Allied Army in Southern France have begun a major drive north into the industrial heart of Germany. This advance caught local CFI commanders completely by surprise, as many were expecting a continued drive towards either Paris or to the Pyrennes in an effort to cut off the forces in Iberia. Several Belgian and German divisions were all that were mustered to halt the advance and they were easily pushed aside by the veteran Irish and Italian armor. The city of Metz was the first major German city to fall to the Allied advance and the rest of the Alsace-Lorraine soon fell as well. Belgian and German military forces were quickly recalled from other points in France to hold the Allies on the Rhine. Despite Germany's best efforts, the Allies managed to gain a bridgehead in November in Bavaria. Meanwhile, in the north, German forces did their best to keep the Irish forces out of Cologne and bogged downed into heavy city fighting. The Allied entry into Germany has thrown the German people into a panic as people evacuate the occupied regions and flee north and east. As elsewhere, much of the European League's success can be contributed to the overwhelming quality and numbers of their air power, though in some places luck and skill has managed a few small victories against the air corps of the League.

FRENCH FRONT. Allied attempts to push west from Marsailles regularly met with defeat throughout 1925. CFI forces, reinforced by French conscripts and Belgian regulars managed to hold against most attacks launched by the Scots and Welsh in the region. French armor was skilfully used to prevent any major breakthroughs and by the end of the year, only a few miles had been gained in the Allied advance from Marsallies. Casualties have mostly been light as numbers in this front have not been as large as the fighting in Iberia or Germany. Most casualties occured in ill trained and equiped draftees of the French army.

Scotland: 2 Infantry Divisions
Wales: 2 Infantry Divisions
France: 5 Irregular Divisions, 1 Biplane Squadron

ROMANIA INVADES BULGARIA. With Russia knocked out of the war effectively by the Muslim nations, Romania has joined in to gain a share of the spoils in the Balkans. Romanian forces quickly invaded the long claimed region of Constanta, assualting weak Bulgarian border outposts in their advance. The attack was met with little resistance until the armies neared the capital city of Sofia, where they hit prepared fortifications. Despite this, the Romanian attack is believed to have broken the back of the Bulgarian regime and the CFI government has surrendered unconditionally to the forces of the European League and the Brotherhood of Islamic Nations.

TO THE ILLEGAL GOVERNMENT OF CHILE
FROM ARGENTINA

We reaffirm our alliance with the American Accord and we will not neglect our treaty agreements despite some recent turmoil in our government.

You have blatantly lied to us. Your military coup has currently gained the popular support of the people as a result of your pronunciamiento. It seems that at a time when Chile had just become equal to Bolivia in the American Accord, that your reasons for leaving are unsound. However, due to the popular support, we shall not act upon your leaving, with the sole effect of Argentina declaring an Embargo on all Chilean goods and companies in Argentina. As all nations in the American Accord are equal, we shall bring forth this to them, and let them choose whether or not to follow through. We however, shall not recognize any government of Chile until free and monitered (by the CoN) elections are held. Based on recent events I am sure that you would not be afraid to lose, and it will give you a legitimacy that your coup doesn't. Until then, the exiled government of Chile remains a member of the American Accord, with full voting rights.
