Can I get a way to hide "similar threads" at the bottom of the screen? I tend to hit the 'End' key on a thread I'm following to get to the latest post on a page, and with the new layout, all I see is this Reply box and the list of similar threads :( I have to scroll up again to see the last post.

It would be nice to be able to actually see the last post in the thread when I do this!

We have just decided to keep this feature, sorry :/.

If there is a new post in a thread, you should come automatically to the most recent new post.

[bargaining] Okay, but how about a feature where you click on the "similar threads" header to hide/show that block? That would help my use-case while preserving the feature overall.

TBF, it is a pretty minor complaint. Either way, thanks for the quick reply!

@Elephantium
What threads do you see listed?

EDIT: at the bottom of this page

Moderator Action: Moved these posts to a separate thread.

These are the options we have.

thx

We could it above the thread though (see the picture of options above).
If it isn't, like, "sticky", and doesn't prevent going to the first unread post, that would work for me. But there are probably some folks who DO like to see Sim Thrds, and then, once their "first unread" was down the page a bit, they would NEVER see it.

So I'd say - far better a very minor annoyance for me rather than a genuine "fail" for others.

At the top of the page would be the worst choice.

Anyway, even though it will be ignored, consider this post another vote for not having this "feature" or at least for having a way to hide it.

Personally I don't think it adds anything..I have to scroll past it constantly to reach Home > Forums > CIVFANATICS > Site Feedback to click to get back to see threads again.

Is it useful in the gaming parts subforum?

Similar threads shows unrelated threads, and is distracting. Similar threads to this thread includes 5 customization and creation threads

I have not seen it point usefully. I would suggest getting rid of it.

^^

It just plain does not work properly. Other than this forum, I only read CIV forums. The "Similar threads" list is all random threads, having nothing to do with the thread they are attached to at the bottom. I, too, think remove it or give an option to hide it. It may be a "feature" but it acts more like a bug and is definitely a buggy feature.

Will Similar Threads get smarter over time? I was just checking on a succession game thread I'm in, and it was pointing me to threads for versions of Civ I've never played :(

Hmm, could this be something hidden by a forum style? Customizing it via style would let you keep it sitewide while giving cranky people like me a way to opt out. The HTML doesn't look promising, though. There's no ID on the div where it displays.

Obviously in some areas this feature is more useful than in others. In Site Feedback it's definitely less useful.

Turning this around...what IS the value proposition? Can you give me an example or two where you see it shine?

I'm busy being grumpy because it doesn't help me with my succession game, but maybe I'm missing some broader context.

In the games forum's someone reads a thread "Best way to utilise Aztec Jaguars" or "How to leverage Philosophical in Civ IV", working properly this feature should surface threads relevant to these topics.

I did a rebuild of the search index last night, which hopefully helps with the relevance of the Similar Threads.

We want to give the Similar Threads feature a chance as it could help with content discovery and surface some interesting threads for users.
