Thread to Report Issues with new xenForo version 2.2

I don't have any obvious issues with it other than that I preferred the previous format

I just got an email notification for a reply to a thread. Replier was responding to someone I have blocked. I could see the blocked person's message.

In forum the blocked person message is correctly hidden.

 for me so far it goes to the first unread post.
Early on yesterday, this was so for me as well. But it changed after an hour or so of poking around (Chrome). When it changed, I thought it was because @The_J had fixed it (no?) Works fine for me this morning, I'm going right to the first unread post. (Actually, I see the last read post at the top, then new posts.)

Ah, shoot. Replied to the incorrect post. I am talking about the issue of opening a thread showing the original post, and not jumping past posts I've already read.

There, now THAT'S more confusing than ever, right?

 we'll get used to the forum.
Maybe this is actually a temporary thing while there's some new indexing going on, or something similar.

I disabled the sticky navigation bar, unles we get more people being in favour of it.
@Hygro
Okay, we have a separate style for Hygro ;).

We don't have control over that, sorry :/.

Why aren't the sidebars collapsible any longer? For various reasons I don't want to get into, I don't want the 'Latest Posts' feed shoved into my face

It seems that this is not a default Xenforo feature (neither in v1 nor v2), apparently we must have used an addon for this.
It seems there's one unmaintained addon, which might potentially do this, but I'd not hold my breath, sorry :/.

The site is different and therefore I don't like it. I can't exactly pin down what it is but it just looks less polished and more boxy. The whole thing just has this early 2000's free forum software feel now. I think a big contributor are the buttons and interface icons which look generic with their combination of uninspiring generic icons and white on blue color scheme.

The old site had a lot of brown and just better imagery overall which gave it a certain personality.

If you feel designer-y today, I can give you the current forum style, and a link to the Xenforo free demo. In that way you can mess around with it yourself ;).

I might just take you up on that one of these days. Not today though as I have way too much work IRL coming monday. Have stuff to finish before the hollidays start.

Really though I think it's primarily the images (I mean, look at the arrow for post reply or the floppy for save edit.) looking generic and cheap and the fact you switched from brown to white on blue. The brown just felt more in tune with the design of the main site and gave it a unique feel and personality.

I used to see only the threads with new posts on Watched threads page https://forums.civfanatics.com/watched/threads
Now I see all watched threads and have to go through the dates of the last post to check if there's anything new. Much less convenient.
It seems this is simply not anymore a feature :/.
There is a paid addon for it though https://xenforo.com/community/threads/watched-threads-filtering-paid.158308/ , but it's not likely that we'll install that. I might try messing around with some options myself though.

On mobile:

— No more page numbers?
On my iPhone XR I get page numbers if it turn it to landscape. (Had the same functionality before this upgrade.)

I don’t use mine in landscape, but tested it and works. There’s plenty of space even in up-‘n’-down mode though.

Is that an offer to let us try making or altering a theme? I used to do a lot of that on the InvisionFree forums (I'm very proud of the Classic Doctor Who theme I created for the Tom Baker forum I admin'd).

Are there any free themes we could try?

I rather liked some of the themes available for various forums 15 years ago. The first forum where I was co-admin was hosted by Forumer, and we had over a dozen themes. I remember one day when I thought I'd just try all of them for awhile to see which ones I liked best. Apple Green was the winner, as it was both cheerful and relaxing. It was funny how the guys didn't want me to delete the pink one... it was like a princess pink, but they wanted to keep it.

I am not sure if we can easily do something about the image elements, and I actually like them .

Okay, not cool (a problem I just found, not your opinion even though I disagree with it ;)). I want to do separate replies to each post since they are not the same post. There's no room between and I can't insert a line. This will make multiquoting an absolute nightmare. Apparently I have to go into BBCode for this (annoying on ProBoards; didn't think I'd have to do it here).

Anyway, images. There should be a place in the theme section of the ACP where you can swap out the default icons and use other ones. There are whole libraries of sets of icons available online (not sure if anyone's made any especially for XenForo). Wouldn't it be cool to have a Civ-centric set? (if one doesn't exist now, I'm sure there are artists here who could make one).

As for the issue of non-collapsing sidebar stuff... I kept them collapsed even though my screen is magnified to the point where all that stuff is actually at the bottom so I usually forget it's even there.

Btw.: It seems a screenshot attached to post 1 of this thread, at least on my pc, is not appearing any longer. May be it was lost in the CFC transfer. My reply is only based on the descriptions in the texts of this thread.

Yes, this is possible.
You can create a free, empty demo instance here https://xenforo.com/demo/ , where you have full admin rights (with admin/admin as credentials). The full admin rights allow you to modify everything in the demo instance.
In the admin controls (top left), you can find on the bottom left under "appearance" the item "styles", which allows you to create new styles. Also to import other ones (e.g. the forum one, which is attached; without images, but you can grab them from here).

Attention: If you close the window, and you don't have it bookmarked, then the session is gone. So pay attention to bookmark it, or to export your style before.

We have also considered running a competition for new styles, but we have not concluded that yet. This should not prevent you from trying around already though ;).

There does not seem to be any attachment in that first post, and neither in the old forum :dunno:.

Please conclude that this is something you're willing to try. It's been ages since I mucked around with creating themes and I know that there's a lot of finicky work involved for the more detailed ones. Some people (we used to call them skinners) would just change the background colors a bit, but I liked to try the whole thing. I remember warning the people on the Doctor Who forum that some changes were coming and they might take awhile. So I opted to leave the forum up and running so people could still post, and reasoned that this would be a good real-time test as they could let me know immediately if anything bizarre happened or if they hated what I did (hint: ALWAYS back up the CSS that you're starting from so you can restore everything if a disaster happens).

The way I put it was: "I'm going to skin the forum. Don't worry about posting; I'm not taking it offline."

One lady promptly replied:

Alive?

We are definitely willed to have a look at member-made skins.
Details for the competition are not finalized yet (or if we even do it), but we'll sure check any member-made skin, independent of this.
