Thread to Report Issues with new xenForo version 2.2

For the page numbering, I thought I saw the right option, but activating that one didn't change a thing. So I'm afraid I don't know where this is.
Sad to hear that, but no Biggie.
mmhh... you should get them. Please have a look under https://forums.civfanatics.com/account/preferences if you disabled them by accident.
Yes, they are enabled. Maybe I need to reinstall Chrome or something.
Do you mean as smileys?
Yes. They could be useful when writing long Posts, and having all the Civ6 yields, combat...etc. Icons as Smileys would help making Posts more friendlier to read and stay thematic with the Game (instead of having to use the Civ5 ones - I'm planning to have all the explanations and details of the 4XP Features (more infos in my signature) here on CFC, so would be very useful for me).

Thanks for the quick answers!

Yeah, I guess we should discuss the smileys again .
Once again I shall move for facepalm and headbowing smileys. I can provide examples (again) if needed (again).

Not what he's talking about ;).
ut given that anything with more than 1k posts will simply show how many k posts there are, it might be an idea to close all thread after 1k posts, and make them serial.
OK, as far as I'm concerned, in OT, but I would not do that for any of the long-standing "mega-threads" in the game forums (most notably the Welcome New Members, Quick Q&A and the Funny/Strange Screenshots threads in General Discussions and Design Your Own Civ and Ideas Not Worth Their Own Thread in Ideas & Suggestions, but also lesser known, but popular threads, like the New Music thread in Civ VI-GD (2K posts)). If and when Civ VII is announced, I predict we will end up with several "mega-threads" about that, even before anything concrete is released/announced.

Recently a post of mine got split off to another thread. I was never subscribed to the new thread nor notified of the transfer. If somebody hadn't popped out of the blue with a reaction post that triggered an alert I'd never have found out.

FWIW, this was an issue on old Xenforo too.

:twitch: Xenforo is an issue, but still…

Yes, they need to.
Right now the setting is so that for people without avatars, you get the coloured first letter of their user name.
We can change this to a default avatar, but there is always something displayed.

Please change it. Letters in a circle make this place look like YouTube and my news site.

In grey style

Blue is not so good.

The mod text shows up perfectly in the Black theme. The red isn't too dark to read (just a comment).

Ah, yeah, let me tweak the blue. EDIT: Done.

For the costs, that seems to range between 10 to 100$, with a majority around 30-35$. Only the license holder seems to be able to buy them though (so that is TF).

Yep, 150000.
There's a warning there though that this should not be set to high for performance reasons, although I wonder now what "too high" could be.

I'm still interested in trying to make something, or at least try.

As for post length... I have lots of difficulty loading posts with multiple videos. Posts with lots of text aren't usually a problem.

That is certainly way too high. It's something like 63 pages of typical font text.
I'd suggest limiting it to 15.000.

I quickly checked some Civ5 war academy posts, and the longest I saw (random selection) was 37.000. So I guess maybe we shouldn't mess with the current post length, might have consequences for older posts.

Some of the Iron Pen competitions in A&E have very long posts, since I included rules and submissions all in the same posts. In the contests with 3 contestants and/or longer length requirements, limits could mean completely messing these up.

One reason why the post lengths and poll options increased is because I requested it years ago, to accommodate Iron Pen. Petek was the admin who I discussed this with, and he kindly increased the limits as I'd asked for. So I sincerely hope you will not lower these limits. It would really mess up so many long posts not only for that, but for some other types of posts.

Another tiny nit pick I stumbled across recently: once a thread's responses reach 4 digits, it simply says "1K". There's a big difference between 1001 and 1999. Is there any way to change it to show the actual number?

The only reason I ask is, I like to check the number of responses before I click on a thread, so I can get an idea of just how far behind I am and how much reading I'll have to do to catch up.
We should perhaps be closing these anyway and starting another one.

While there are some traditions associated with serial threads in OT (ie. the Random Rants/Raves/Thoughts, Cool Pictures, and others) that say the poster of #1000 gets starting and naming rights of the next thread, there are some threads in OT that are well over 1000 posts but are not serial threads. My weather thread is one; Mary's shopping thread is another, and there are others. The reasons for previously capping threads at 1000 posts no longer exists, so I hope that these longer posts won't suddenly find themselves broken up.

@The_J: I've found a problem with the Black theme :( . If I try to adjust the spacing between quotes when multiquoting, the identifying information of who made the post I'm quoting disappears. Even if I can remember who wrote it, the link to it vanishes along with the name.

(otherwise, I'm still loving it!)

Justr discovered that the (BBcode) superscript-tags [ sup ][ /sup ] now appear to have a ridiculously large baseline-shift attached to them (by default in XF2? It wasn't nearly so bad in the previous version).

Superscripted text gets pushed up so high that it completely overlaps the previous line: reducing the font-size seems to make no difference, either.

The subscript tags may also be affected, haven't tested that...

I just tested it. They are also affected.

Xenforo still insists with dating recent posts as ‘(number) minutes ago’.

It's particularly funny that, if you make a post, then close a tab and reopen it (not reload, just ‘undo close tab’) and then post again, the date calculator tells me that newer posts are made ‘in (number) minutes’ and starts counting down. :rotfl:

OK, so, it's 21 pages (so I haven't read the thread), and most of the stuff here is technical/graphical from what I can see.

But I want to say something slightly different.

We got a number of new reaction types, directly imported from Facebook. Including a laughing emoji which indicates a post is funny.

But there's a behavior connected to the laughing emoji (in complete accordance with its use on Facebook). A lot of the time, it's used as a trolling emoji/mocking emoji/dislike button. The inference is that someone says something so stupid, you laugh at it. There's a few examples in Off Topic already, but I don't want to call people out for using an emoji function. They're using a function on the forum according to its own mechanics. Furthermore, to see when people are using it as "dislike", you have to be acquainted with the context & positions of the people using it, meaning I know when it's used to mock/dislike; the poster knows when it's used to mock/dislike; but it's very stealthy and context specific. It's damn near impossible to moderate. It's a way to ghost-insert dislikes, and in a very unhealthy way that's much more trolly than a straight dislike button.

I can try and search up an example with a PM prompt if an admin/mod is interested.

I personally don't like this particular use, which is why I'm bringing it up. I'm not dying on this hill, so if the admins feel different about this function, that's fine. I just know how it's used on Facebook, and it's already used as such here. It gives a free channel to mock without needing oneself to provide substance as an argument or similar. Again, it's impossible to moderate when it's just an emoji. Reporting (if it were even possible over an emoji) requires *a lot* of context, since it's not just a swear word or flaming, as the smiley is technically just indicating someone's funny.

And yes I know it's sad if we can't have a reaction to when people make good jokes. It's just that the like button was more than enough previously, and now we directly imported a really toxic element from Facebook.

The angry emoji does not have the same potency of toxicity, since it expresses anger (lizard brain: when you get angry, you lose the argument).

And no, being reacted to this way hasn't happened to me yet. Afaik.
