I thought the age of consent or whatever would've already been higher around that time, but guess not.

Depending on the state, the age of legal marriage is lower than the age of consent. :p

I recall that in some Arab country (I think it was Oman), you can only consent to sex if you are married and only to someone you are married to, though there is no age limit for marriage.

Oh yeah. That makes sense. I think in a lot of states you can still marry if you're under 18 with your parents' permission.

TIL there's this girl in South Korea who makes around $9000 a month just eating food in front of a webcam or something.

I'm not entirely sure what to think.

She makes way more than I've ever made, at any rate. Actually come to think of it she almost makes as much as my dad did at the best-paying job he ever had.

She was posted here some time ago. She had got quite fat in one of the videos (not sure how she is now, but she did eat loads of stuff in every video...). This is why Best Korea will prevail.

It was around a few suburbs near Washington DC. There were a lot of upper-middle class Jews in the area, as well as upper-middle class Koreans and Chinese for the matter, but the Jews were the most numerous.

I'm from there too and I've never noticed that many Jews. Sure, a lot more than most parts of the country, but probably not even a majority. I'd say at most 1/3 in some parts of Montgomery county. I'm guessing your from Bethesda or Rockville.

John Oliver wears a lapel pin of the US 1st Cavalry Division. His (American) wife was an Army medic in Iraq. John entertained the troops there. I have no further information, but jump to several conclusions.

Hmm, that's interesting.

Yeah, Rockville-Gaithersburg area. I suppose I might've been exaggerating, but there sure were a hell lot of Jews in my high school. They were the largest ethnic group at my high school. At the least there were enough Jews in the area it made a big impression on how I view MoCo.

I assumed the 99% figure was an exaggeration but I was still interested in what part of the country had that many. Some neighborhoods in Brooklyn and a few cities north of NYC I know to not only have strong majorities of the white population but strong majorities of the entire population. At the time I asked that question I assumed you were from the So Cal area (though a few days ago you said DC) and I'd really be interested to know of any hyper Jewish areas around Los Angeles.

I was born in SoCal, moved to the DC area when I was a little kid, then we all moved back to SoCal when I started college.

After looking at this drawing by Junji Ito:

i searched a bit for images/traits of milipedes, but in the end was too disgusted and instead went on to read about the reason some insects have very bright/lively colors (such as red and yellow). Up to then i thought this was because they were all poisonous, but now learned that some of them are actually mimics of the warning colors and patterns, while they would not harm a predator who would try to eat them.
This particular type of mimesis is called Batesian, named after a mid 19th century British biologist who lived for a decade in the region of the Amazon rain forest so as to examine the species there.

Also worth noting is that some crypto-predatory insects (parasitic ones) do the opposite: while they are poisonous, they develop a cryptic color pattern on their bodies, so that they lure predators who die after eating them, serving as a good host for the hell about to devour them from within...

All this, obviously, gives me good starting points for a short story ;)

Just pretend those are the whirling colorful bits of paper used to throw around in childrens' parties.

Not at all copies of the sick old man's forehead, eyebrows, hair and upper cranium.

Oh wait, maybe you did not make that connection- sorry in that case... it's just a giant milipede at worst, honest! :satan:...

I'd have to gather more information, but it's a definite possibility. My parents aren't from Vietnam though.

TIL the first solar power plant was installed a few years before WWI and more or less worked decently.

Now I'm trying to imagine steampunk/dieselpunk-esque settings that use the power of the sun.

You can be the non-Vietnamese alternate reality version of me. I know I have a half-Japanese alternate reality version of me. Actually I'm pretty sure I have an alternate reality version of myself for every race/ethnic group possible.
