Doesn't streaming provide everyone easy options to ignore regular TV offerings? There are hundreds of hours of crappy programming that we ignore everyday for one reason or another. Folks don't seem to complain about those shows. Don't like the news, turn it off. Nobody seems to complain about the political news that runs 24/7.

I havn't watched regular TV except for sporting events in about 5 years.. Likely longer!

Haters gonna hate

In 1 sense it makes it worse. No 24 Hour CoffinCam in 1952 (CoffinCam is hopefully a figment of my imagination but every minutiae gets covered in excruciating detail nowadays).

As I see it folks have, broadcast channels, cable in its various versions and streaming. Broadcast channels can be limiting, cable has scores if not hundreds, and streaming has essentially anything you want. When Kennedy was assassinated, we had 3 channels and they were all focused on the assassination related news plus funeral for 3-5 days straight from the early morning until midnight signoff. Radio, books or playing with friends were the choices outside of work or school.

Nowadays it seems effortless to avoid watching whatever you don't want to watch. If nothing else, Netflix can solve most viewing selection problems. Of course, when I get news overload on stuff, I can just read a book, play PoE, hang out here and watch posts adding to the pile. ;)

Maybe she wasn't a great leader after all? :wow:
She was? Look it ain't easy to get people to like her and be a champion of a soft power.
She didn't have it easy. How many leaders had gotten its people voluntarily almost universally like them? And if you think that is just cult saying... I am afraid that's bit insulting to English

I doubt it is insulting to that many of the English. Eg I don't think it is even insulting to (those of the) English posters here who like the monarchy.

She has done many things for her country- even apponting a new PM even few days before dying.
And being in constant public eyes and acting to get their favor isn't easy. British royals are glorified streamers nowdays who are constantly being watched by public. I for one would HATE to be a royal.

I really don't see any merit in presenting the royals as victims. Most of their subjects face far worse in life, surely.

Not victims but someone who are tasked with great burden. They do deserve it BUT they don't have it easy contrary to what people may believe.

They can task me with limitless wealth, prestige and marrying a princess anyway.

There are very few people on Earth who are guaranteed to be extremely rich all their life. It's not even the case for people born rich, but it is for the british royal family. Claiming they are to be revered due to how hard they have it, is really not convincing.

At the cost of having almost zero privacy and having to be almost constant public spotlight?

Says who? Celebs manage the life without too much bother.

And they (celebs) also have to actually maintain the public interest, by doing stuff (or continuous good fortune). Unlike being born to it and married to it for life.
I don't get what you mean by last sentence. They are born to the job and have no real say on the matter.

But most celebs CHOOSE their job. Did royals have any choice in being who they are?
If they complain people will say " why not be like us commoners and stop being royals?"
