Times For Heroes: Chapter 1, Origins

Bumping this thread to see if EQ at least can tell us what happened that stopped him from posting :D.

Don't get , EQ, it's just that we are worried to see that more than 48 hours have passed since the deadline ended and you haven't said a thing about the update. Is this NES finished forever or is it just that you don't have the time to mod it?

No worries. I'm actually thinking on this very hard. It occured to me that there may be a better way to do this. I'll have my idea up later this evening.

OOC: Note to Milarqui- don't freak out if a mod is a little late- it takes more than a few days to declare a NES d-word. ;)

Darn, didn't send orders again!

I will just leave, however: Buy 200 Heavy Cenatan (600) and 200 Hunters (400) and send 100 each and 600 warriors to fight the Centaurs.

The Alter

Morgad stood next to his light brown, hairy, spider mount he called Zortex on top of a cliff side over looking a valley flooded with orcs, and in the middle a gigantic alter that no orc came even 500 yards of. He had been standing there only a few moments thinking of how he could possibly sneak over to the alter and have a chance to confront Doomsayer when torches began to be lit and a giant orc began screaming orders. The mass of green skin humanoids rushed to every entrance of their valley as quickly as possible as Morgad saw huge groups of Centaur raiders striking the camp from all possible ways.

“Centaur here?” Morgad said to himself, “I heard the rumors of a small group venturing around these parts, but not this big of a group…” He thought they were mad for attacking such a huge encampment of orcs, and then realized his opportunity to strike. Morgad jumped onto Zortex’s back and rode off charging towards a small group of centaur and orcs fighting, “Kill the horsemen, I’ll get the orcs!” Morgad barked to Zortex as he flung himself towards the nearest orc and decapitated it. Next he engaged two orcs and slew them quickly looking over his shoulder to see Zortex pounce a medium sized centaur and crush it between it’s powerful fangs. He moved on to strike down another orc from the back and found himself fighting a centaur and an orc at the same time, as the three fought each other (centaur, dwarf and orc) Zortex crept up behind the orc and bit off it’s leg, then spit some poison into the centaurs eyes. Next thing Morgad new the centaur was being dragged away into a small pile of rocks by it’s hind legs, so Morgad finished off the orc and looked around for more to fight.

Morgad took a quick glance towards the alter and saw the massive orc leader Doomsayer, accompanied by three or four orcs armed to the teeth, escorting three prisoners two orcs and a dwarf. In panic Morgad hurried down the cliff side and charged towards the alter, only to be cut off by a pack of orcs. The lead orc charged into the dwarf knocking him onto his back just as a group of centaur intercepted the orcs and began to fight each other, completely forgetting about Morgad who got up and began to run again.

He got half way between the alter and where the orc camps were when a few orcs who had spotted him stopped, exactly 500 yards from the alter itself, and Morgad knew he was safe from the battle at hand. The dwarf warrior sprinted to the alter steps just as Doomsayer made the last sacrifice, the lone dwarf, to the god Thudd and storm clouds began to roll in out of no where and darkened the warm sunny skies. Lightning made of fire struck Doomsayers guards and then energy began to raise from the bodies and surround the orc leader, only increasing his size and muscle. Morgad gasped as the orcs green skin began to change into a shiny dark black color and he turned to show his bright red eyes. Doomsayer walked slowly down the hundreds of steps glaring only at Morgad, with a grin stretching across the orcs massive face, and speaking a dwarf language.

“I have seen this day coming little dwarf…” Doomsayer said to Morgad. “Our great god had given me the power to see into the future, and I know the outcome of this conflict pathetic dwarf.”

Morgad stood about half the orcs size, but held his axe tight in his grip and prepared himself for the fight of his life. Then, all of a sudden, out of no where Zortex leaped through the air and landed in between the orc and dwarf. The orc then bore a look of shock and fear as he had obviously not foreseen this event but charged the beast anyways not taking his burning red eyes off it. Zortex spit some poison at the orc who brushed it off, but hesitated just long enough for the spider to bite off the orcs left forearm. Doomsayer let out a howl of pain as he swung his mighty sword down upon the spider and stabbed it in the back multiple times killing it.

During the fight Morgad had the time to charge the orc, he leaped into the air and came down with his axe head aimed straight for the chest of the black skinned beast. Doomsayer was to slow in his attempt to parry the blow as his sword was to heavy for his one arm, and Morgad cut deep into his shinning flesh then Doomsayer laid limp on the ground.

The dwarf hurried towards the alter to inspect the dead dwarf and saw that the dead dwarf wore a necklace made of a centaur hoof, that matched his own perfectly…

I have decided to make this a strictly story-telling NES. I have a story or two to tell about some battles, but i highly recommend creativity from all of you. Do not fear that your work or development is lost for good. The stories and appendix will be used in the second installment of the series, likely on a more conventional NES.

I have made this choice because another NES has beckoned after I found a ruleset which fits it far more nicely than the previous system. Once more, this NES is not dead, just for stories only.

So, no more orders at all? I mean, here I thought that the change would just be something on the rules to make it easier for you to mod it, but to turn into a only-story-NES... that sucks! I worked a lot on my stats to now having to stop to use them!

No, the stats can be used as a guideline for the stories and so forth, and I will update them based on stories and so forth. Also, once again, the created units will return in the next installment of the Times for heroes series.

Well the point is to not go against what the other stories say. No one would be competing. We're simply all telling a story based in a fictional world.

I'll try, but as a pure story basis I am a bit worried that it may become simply who can write the most. Cause sadly I cannot, I can do one maybe two short stories a day at best. Life is just busy.

Yea, I have to agree with Adrogens on this one. With life being as busy as it is for some, I think some players would have a massive advantage over the others.

I would say that we are competing over those artifacts to a point. Should one person write a story saying "Oh look, I found it", that doesn't give someone else the chance...especially if said person was doing something of importance in real life.

I think just having a very simple summary update of major events not mentioned in our stories, and a map, will be enough. I just need some kind of feedback on how the expansion of Hek'Hekath is going.

Guys the story writing shouldn't be a problem. As in all roleplaying MMO's I have been in one of the biggest rules is to consult before doing something affecting another player or players nation.

We can all be big boys and try and build a world we will want to have the next NES in. The biggest thing will be our ability to self regulate. Read eachother's stories and if something looks fishy just bring it up. "Hey did you talk to so and so before useing their nations leader in your story.

What I think will also help is to add a Who's Involved: Section at the end of each story. For example:

Story.....
...
Who's Involved: Dexter, Reketh, The Peit'hom Sailors, Drell Raiders

Now If what I wrote in that story was rediculous instead of Iggy or someone else having to read through each story they can just notice their guy or people are in it and read it and say "Hey I'd apreciate it if you changed this this and this."

That sounds like a good idea. Speaking of which, how do you plan to carry on our little story arc- things are kind of in your hands right now. I figure that you might just leave Reketh locked up in your room for a few days, then feed him and try to talk again.

Well, HS's idea might work, but there is still a problem: imagine that, for example, the Mountain Dwarfs and the Hill Dwarfs decide to ally and take on the Deff Clan. Each of them posts a story about their preparing for war and going towards the territories of the Orcs. But, since the player of the Deff Clan has read that story, he might add something in his to counter this attacks. It would be a very hard work of everybody trying to stay IC and putting up everything as if they didn't know the stories, yet they have to stay within the limits that many other stories have provided.
