Thank you for your service. You do your countries, and CFC, proud. :salute:

I admire the fact that they'll undertake such a job at great risk to themselves.

I'm less comfortable with the notion that they might kill other people on my behalf.

Thank you for your $ervice

But Jolly The Armed forces are a socialist organisation.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

:salutes:

Thank you for your service.

Support the troops, send them home:)

Come home soon. May our leaders not send you to your unncessary deaths ever again.

Okay let me personally congratulate every Male from the age of 32 up in my whole municipality. I'll start with my dad.

I honestly don't see what makes veterans so special. I don't want them "fighting for my freedom", I want those people that are now dead because of them to still be alive. :dunno:

I think they're special because they apparently put their lives on the line. Not many other people do that. Whether the cause they do it for is worth it, is another issue.

In my opinion it isn't.

I don't think the average soldier (usually quite a young man) is to blame for what others tell him is right.

I for one would rather them be fighting for my freedom than fighting overseas while we lose more and more freedom due to the "War on terror."

That's not really their fault though. I wish those that laid down their lives in sham wars were also still alive.

The ruling class should be blamed, not the rank and file veterans. Most of whom still think they are indeed fighting for our freedoms and don't understand that wars like Iraq do no such thing.

Oh no, I'm not trying to play the blame game. I just don't see any reason to respect them.

Well now, Mr Civver. That looks like a trick question.

But I do respect them yes. But only for having the conviction to put their lives on the line. Not for killing other people.

But they were the people, the foot soldiers if you like, who carried it out. Those who organized the attack and persuaded them to do it - like Osama bin Laden - must bear the ultimate responsibility.

Isn't this fair?

I realize of course that the Universal Soldier bears responsibility for his acts. Without him nothing of this kind would be possible.

But it's expecting a lot for a man in his early twenties to ignore all the propaganda he is subject to. Though of course some, a very few, do exactly that.

Do you respect the people that carried out the 9/11 attacks?

That's different. While some of our veterans are indeed doing useless things like fighting in foreign wars and guarding overseas bases that they shouldn't have, that's uncle sam's fault, and it is uncle sam who should take the blame.

These people are making great sacrifice for their country and should be commended for it. That I think Uncle Sam acts like a wannabe emperor at times is not their fault. And I respect them for doing what they think is right.

Even if I wanted to serve in the military under ideal circumstances, I could not simply because I disagree with our foreign policy and I think its immoral. But I do not blame those who die in the service of our country. I'm proud of them for doing what they think is right. I am not proud of Uncle Sam for doing what HE darn right should know is not.

Serving in the armed forces would be an honorable thing if they armed forces were not continually used for bad motives. It is honorable to protect your nation/community, but not honorable to take part in the invasion of other countries.

I know quite a few vets (I am one myself) but sadly most of them don't realize that they have been used and have paid a very heavy price for it both physically and mentally.

Good luck finding out whether that's going to happen to you or not before you end up in Afghanistan.
